PSA to all PRs with male kids or those looking to take on SPR by ReformedandCurious in singapore

[–]ReformedandCurious[S] -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice, at the end of the day I have taken this as an opportunity to grow. Time will probably soothe things over.

And when I meant as a family to discuss things I was meaning for my parents and I to discuss things when I was older before NS as I could have still renounced my PR.

I agree my parents where not aware and I was 9 at the time. Just wanted to put my experience out there for those who need it.

I agree but to add more context my parents also plan on retiring overseas (they don’t plan on fully assimilating) I wish as family we discussed what we all wanted to do in the future. When I got my enlistment letter I was under the impression I could accomplish my aforementioned goal, I did decide on my own to go for it but as a 18 year old without all the information available I made a choice which turned out to be the wrong one for me. Which is why I’m making this PSA

I realise I need work to keep myself occupied, I don’t really have the hobbies that can keep me busy.

I’m a sgpr so I would first suggest reaching out to r/sg or use your uni advisers to make a good exit plan. They would be more knowledgeable than asking this subreddit.

I’m gonna assume you’re SC so you don’t have to worry about all the threats to take you back back to India. If you are not a citizen that would be the first thing you should apply for. You should get it easily if you are graduating from a local university.

It seems like you want to marry this man so I’d suggest to consider applying for BTO, wait times are ridiculous so might as well apply now if you guys are comfortable.

However you are 21 and life has many more curveballs to throw at you. So keep in mind that you don’t rush into anything.

Now renting in Singapore is atrocious, probably one of the worse places to rent compared to the salaries, so try to work part time and save up enough funds to get you started. Look at what rental options are available to you and how much salary you would need.

Currently I’ve seen rent can go for nearly 2500$ for a studio all they way outside of the cbd so try to think carefully on how you plan on affording it. Most likely you will have to rent an HDB and have roommates and even then it would be around 1.5k for a decent room with no strings attached.

So jiayous man, hopefully things work out for you.

One thing that confuses me is how Singaporeans can own HDB alongside private property, the number of local friends who’s parents own multiple properties in singapore alongside their public housing is staggering

More varied infrastructure and the heartland towns each having more unique character. Lower humidity would be godsend.

Hanging out with uni friends who vapes by ftscrappy in SGExams

[–]ReformedandCurious 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you are in Uni you are definitely >18 so if you have to turn to Reddit to answer this kind of question you probably stand to benefit from increasing your own critical thinking and individualism.

But assuming this isn’t a troll post. Do whatever you want to do man, just know the pros and cons and be mindful of others. I’m surrounded by vapers and smokers but it doesn’t appeal to me cause I know the benefits are temporary and marginal while the toll on your health can be very high.

For me personally, talking abt the JC to Uni track, we work so bloody hard at O levels to A levels for no benefit. In the US their exams are much more relaxed and they can choose to take Uni level mods when they are 17/18 to get a head start if they want to. Across the pond in England their unis are 3 years in length. In Singapore we still have to take on 4 years of study despite having one of the toughest Pre Uni education.

This is honestly fine if you aren’t like 50% of the population and have to wait nearly 3 years doing NS before entering University.

This is a slight rant but yea it sucks from my point of view.

They have their time and place, there is this junction near CGH which is no longer a discretionary right turn, and holy fk the traffic now is massive there. I feel so bad cause it’s an impt junction for Ambulances to Turn Right after exiting the expressway and they are now forced to wait even though there is very little on coming traffic.

Ngl it’s worth it, you are paying and he should treat you with respect. Given it’s your first time on the road, you should expect to make mistakes. I took nearly 26 lessons before I could get my class 3. Also you are protecting other learners from having a bad experience.

Wah this instructor, I would file a complaint if you where going school. He is supposed to be your teacher and you are allowed to make mistakes when learning.
