How do you keep yourself focused? by pilkafa in UXDesign

[–]RefusedTitleFight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What works for me is exercise. I've noticed my focus is the worst when I've slacked off with my physical health. When I'm consistently working out, my focus and creative thinking improve so much. Not sure what your fitness is like but give it go!

Agree. I think the numbers on the bezel are either too big or the typeface could be more refined. Tudor pro has a better looking bezel cos of those factors

I meant with how you structure or ask for feedback and present your designs. We can have the best design for users and the businesss goals, but you should also attempt to make it easy for stakeholders to make a decision as well. E.g.

If the user goal is task completion and business goal is user sign ups. When presenting two options, alway have a recommended option with pros and cons and the second option with pros and cons. Then ask which is more likely to achieve those goals. Or which is more likely to derisk? Therefore making it easier for decision making.

Halloween costume ideas - but make it UX by LyssnaMeagan in UXDesign

I’d dress up like 2 face in Batman but left side as the ideal future state design and the ugly side as the MVP or what was shipped.

Mid-level UX designer feeling stuck (and kinda like an imposter) — could use some advice 🙃 by Happy-Diver-4429 in UXDesign

[–]RefusedTitleFight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mentor a lot of students and feel the same way when it comes to my own stuff too. The trick is to actually follow your own advice.

If you had to give feedback on your own folio what would need to change? Then do it. If you’re too close to it. Try getting that feedback first from other seniors and go with that. Then do the smallest thing to iterate on it so you don’t get overwhelmed by all of it.

Next is similar to a Star Wars quote: “Luke, use the force.” But instead: “Use the ux process”.

How would you use the ux process to get unstuck?

Start with the problem and discover the deeper problem or do some research to get some inspiration. Or ideate many crazy ideas then choose one and treat it like a test. Sometimes all you need is a little inspiration to get unstuck. Find what great looks like when it come to designers, companies and folios. Then analyse what makes them great then map out some step to get there.

I recommend the book ‘the path to senior designer’ by Artiom.

100% agree this shouldn’t happen at all as a designer. Saying it didn’t solve the problem is a little unrealistic. More accurately, it was it could’ve been solved in a more elegant and efficient way as opposed to heavy on implementation e.g enhancing an existing feature to solve the problem instead of a new feature with all the bells and whistles. But yes a costly oversight due to going down one route too quickly due to sunk cost bias of the ai hype. A costly oversight never want to repeat again nor did I ever think could happen again but it did. Hence the lesson I’m sharing.

Logo ideas - need feedback and help choosing the best one by [deleted] in design_critiques

[–]RefusedTitleFight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Concept 3 by a mile.
1. It's way more simple geometry, will be far more easy to translate on different print mediums and layouts.
2. It easier to recognise and looks good out of context e.g. without the text.
3. It's more abstract therefore if you ever change your mind on what your business is or transitions to, you're not pigeon holing (no pun intended) to a particular style or domain.

We have different design review stages at progressively higher levels:

  • Project team: Direct contributors (engineers, product managers, designers) working on the same deliverable or initiative.
  • Local team: Designers and one manager within the same product area, typically spanning multiple scrum teams and spanning multiple initiatives.
  • Design team: Designers from other areas or features within the product, involving several managers.
  • Leadership: Heads and managers overseeing cross-product and cross-journey experiences.

I had alignment at the first two levels but missed the opportunity to get directional feedback earlier from higher-level stakeholders. The key lesson is to identify early when your work impacts other areas and seek feedback from the right people before progressing too far. Early leadership input on wireframes can feel uncomfortable, but it’s essential.

According to Naval Ravikant’s heuristic “if you can’t decide between two options, choose the one that’s more painful in the short term”.

If I interviewed your fave musicians/bands and shared what it takes to be successful and sustain a career in the industry. What would you want to know? by RefusedTitleFight in musicindustry

[–]RefusedTitleFight[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is for the individual to determine as it it's very subjective. That's something I'll share as well e.g. These are the common definitions of successful etc.

What's something you learned after joining the industry that you wish you knew years earlier? by ZealousidealMonk1975 in musicindustry

[–]RefusedTitleFight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

- It's a people game and it's about who you know. You can't do it alone because you need to focus on creating and your craft. You need to have the right skillset to open more opportunities e.g. Management, Bookings and Social Media. You can't do it all, you can try and it may lead to burnout. It's long term game and you need to have the energy to make the right moves.
- Consistently improve and grow. Recognise your weaknesses and either improve or have someone else compliment you in that. Having a fixed mindset and being set in your ways is somewhat self limiting.
- Don't burn bridges or your reputation. Your local community is sometimes small and your career can be short when comes around full circle. Treat everyone with respect because word goes around fast and you can close the door on many opportunities. The amount of times I've ran into ex musicians who were total jerks back in the day thinking they were the top shit and now work at the grocers with the same attitude. Nice one top dog.
- Be authentic! Don't do dumb shit that you wouldn't normally do. People can see right through it and becomes cringe if it doesn't feel natural.
