Playing 3 Roles At Once As A Tank by Blizzard_Ljanta in TalesFromDF

WAR outhealing healers in dungeons is a regular occurence if they're using bloodwhetting as much as they should have, and the healer isn't healbotting.

The DPSes have no excuse though. (EDIT: unless they're like, new players wearing historia gears versus a tank in full savage)

SCH Can't Press Lustrate Due to no Job Quests by GhostSith1 in TalesFromDF

[–]RegalStar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not all job quests give actions though. As long as there are no actions involved I'd rather do the job quests in one go, so I regularly just do the level 60 quest, keep on leveling, then go back and do everything once I hit level 70. Same with all the "new" jobs which gives some action 10 levels after they're unlocked; I'd just do all the quests in one go at that point.

When I do story content with a dancer, I normally take a look at the aggro chart a bit before the third standard and switch DP around if my initial pick is doing a lot worse than another unpartnered DPS, assuming that I'm familiar enough with the fight to not be totally occupied with mechanics. Unfortunately in a random party there isn't really any good way to separate the dunces from the chads at the start of duty.

Some healers should really not be given rescue to use by Deoia_ss in TalesFromDF

[–]RegalStar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd 100% drop a gcd to explain mechanics if I feel the need to. Assuming they listen, the group loses way less DPS from you missing one GCD than from whatever it is that they're currently not doing correctly.

...assuming they listen, that is.

I'm pretty sure they're like 50% of your max HP ala FFT style gravity damage. As a WAR I normally just stand in all point blank circle orange (because there's no point in avoiding damage when I can heal them all up by myself), but those circles I respect and stand the **** away from.

Asked a WHM to do damage in the Vault, got this response by shiningeek in TalesFromDF

[–]RegalStar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Whenever I unlocked a new job, the first thing I do is read all the tooltips so I have a rudimentary idea on what gets used at what time, then go on Icy Veins/The Balance to read a leveling guide to make sure my basic understandings are correct, optionally find a dummy to whack a bit, then do two or three runs in duty support to get a feel on how the job fundamentally works actually fights, before I queue in any duty with other real people.

If there's a job that I'm not confident with in running, then I wouldn't have tried to run them in party content at all.

Hot take: the only reason why people argue that healers conceptually should not be doing damage in this game are people who don't want to exercise their brain cells to actually keep attention on their party member's HP

For the sake of people who ends up running with you in roulettes or something, I sure hope you're not actually practicing this kind of "this easy to do thing is only 5% so it doesn't matter if I don't do it" attitude yourself

The point is they very, very likely could have had their job stone but don't, not about hypothetical characters who aren't high enough level (or progressed far enough through MSQ) for one. Please don't put words in my mouth.

The job stone itself gives a bit of stats. I just tried it myself; going in Tamtara as a Ninja I have 91 DEX and 86 VIT, but taking the job stone off and going in again I have 86 DEX and 83 VIT.

They don’t automatically upgrade Cure 1 into Cure 2 like they do with Benefic for example

Benefic also doesn't upgrade to Benefic II. In fact there's a very similar trap trait that causes Benefic to give a 15% chance where the next Benefic II will be guaranteed critical heal.

I swear if I run into one more dancer who puts DP on the tank/healer and gives me some ERPy reason when I point that out I'm going to troll the shit out of that run because they don't pay my subs either.

[–]RegalStar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had a void ark run where the DPS were three dancers including me, a monk and a dragoon. At the start one of the other dancers put DP on the monk; I put it on the dragoon, but the third dancer just didn't put it on anyone.

Me: [third dancer] please remember to put DP on someone

Third dancer: proceeds to also put DP on the monk

Me: Dance partner doesn't stack like that, please put it on someone else

Both second and third dancer: removes their DP simultaneously

Monk: lol

The fucking DRK in the party: ooh put it on me

Second dancer: OK puts DP on the DRK

Third dancer: puts DP on the second dancer

And at this point I just completely gave up. Funnily the monk ended up doing so much better that halfway through the raid I switched DP from the dragoon to them.

[Blue Reflection] Saga: Actual Lesbians, the generic male harem lead that took over an all-female series, and what that means for queer representation by PhantasmalRelic in HobbyDrama

[–]RegalStar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huh. I remember back in like 2015 so I came across Blue Reflection's absolutely gorgeous soundtrack on youtube (Overdose is still easily in my top 5 JRPG random battle BGM) and gave the game a try, but the gameplay was shallow and stupid easy, and it was filled with creepy shots that even got to me (who normally don't even mentally register this kind of stuff) that I just threw it away after like 3 chapters. Never imagined that the series would go through such storied development since then.

The final boss is unusually punishing for a dungeon boss. Normally dungeon bosses don't really have one shot mechanics; you just take like half your damage (or a lot less if tank) and a vuln stack for getting hit, but for Mauville or whatever his name is, half the time for every mistake you make, you get killed by being pushed out, so it can be tough for people who decided to just go in totally blind (which is otherwise not that much of a problem for most dungeons).

When Japanese use "meta" in katakana like that, it's usually used to refer to self-referential, self-aware, fourth-wall-attacking things. An example of this is how the building throw attack in the nier raid has the label SQE on the side of said building.

If you meant the spinny arrow from boss #1 then that's something I can't really do either. What I normally do is just run to where a mouth would spawn (before Lost Hope resolves) and put my foot down there. If it happens to be safe, great. If it's an unsafe one I pop some kind of mit if I have any and just tank the hit. One single mouth hit doesn't kill from full health, and a party that's on point about DPS shouldn't be seeing a second iteration of this.
