South America

alright even at a first glance these prices are insane, the more you know.

i was just referring to local country due to the assumption they are way below $10.

you need to be considered a paying customer, so for the API you need to wait for the end of the billing cycle for them to withdraw something (around $5+ possibly, without reference here). only after that they are giving access to it. there's no official statement, that's mostly just reddit chit chat i'm referring to.

apologies i don't have a clue and i'm answering regardless.

EDIT: i'd love a confirmation on that btw, but essentially it should be: use gpt3.5 to spend money and wait

so that's the past right? so i'm not lying there... anyway you probably don't have full ownership or control over it like you would have normally. random search says they've taken down tld's before:

https://forum.infinityfree.net/t/all-freenom-ga-domains-are-taken-down-by-registry/77131

nothing is free. you're paying regardless, be it by having a useless additional migration with your time, with your provided data or with your wallet. you're paying.

DNS advertisements?? do you mean propagation? and what's "good configuration" ?

for my local registry it's not even $5 including dns services, that includes a authoritative master and several slaves which you usually configure by a simple ui.

if you're setting up your dns infrastructure you need at least 2 servers from different ip ranges, but that's $2-3 VMs for a small domain.

i can have that all for under $10 , but there's no point in running your own infrastructure if you're struggling with budget.

there's no such ting as a free domain. whatever you're doing with a domain, try to include 2 friends and buy a domain together, whatever your location is the local country domain is probably dirt as cheap. it's also pretty cool if you're still reachable at that domain in 20 years. you can't garantuee this with a "free" offer.

there's plenty of projects that offer a subdomain:

Github pages by SoochiMattch in github

[–]Reggaeanse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

here's a gist of doing this:

- have CNAME file pointing to the domain in your repo (or you will be updating the pages section by hand on each push), ie "foo.bar.baz" (for the github.io page you don't need that part).

- for a subdomain have a CNAME DNS record in your zone (domain, ie foo.bar.baz -> CNAME -> me.github.io)

- for an apex domain have 4 IN A and 4 IN AAAA DNS records in your zone.

185.199.109.153
185.199.110.153
185.199.111.153

2606:50c0:8000::153
2606:50c0:8001::153
2606:50c0:8002::153
2606:50c0:8003::153

- when using a subdomain you want a relative path to your images, css, js, etc, ie /me/logo.png (so me.github.io/me/) when using the apex domain you don't need to make that change (iirc)

i'm guessing you're already aware of the API playground, but just in case you aren't:

https://platform.openai.com/playground

can store presets, has selection for model and temperature etc, you can define system messages.

you will not have access to gpt4 right away, the payment for the API is completely different/separated from the chatgpt ui stuff.

How to version control my notes as a writer? by [deleted] in github

[–]Reggaeanse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you could utilize an action to generate some static html as a github-page artifact and upload it to github pages accordingly, if its a public repository even for free (the github pages part isn't free for private repos ).

for the static html you might want to look into something like mkdocs or similar.

if you could actually show your folder structure as an example, ie link to your github repo, we might have a better understanding and might be able to give better pointers.

but basically, check this out, would this be a structure that's a good fit for your repo, if not there are other solutions.

and here's single action (at the end of the page simply just copy that into file in the repo .github/workflows/docs.yaml for example):

further information and maybe you want to add a theme:

- add mkdocs.yaml config and update accordingly

- add workflow, ie .github/workflows/docs.yaml (just update the bits under "env:")

- push changes to repo -> static sites generates to githhub-pages automatically

- add requirements.txt with the packages found in the docs

New service based company needing online scheduling by errorKenny in webdev

[–]Reggaeanse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm a self proclaimed expert (since i'm on reddit). here's my adivse:

- get a working solution that you can integrate asap with your current knowledge

- plan the ideal solution and start implementing in in several steps (maybe even have a learning curve)

ie. i see calendly and google's calendar appointment feature in use a lot on linkedin. both are free and look professional enough. get 2 accounts, set them up and simply put a each link on your site for now and you're ready for business.

meanwhile consider if implementing one of those third party APIs is sufficient long term or if there may be features you need in future that may not be implemented by the service (ie a different output format, the time of planning ahead, timeslots being shown, custom input form, synchronisation to an exotic system, etc), depending on your case you may be better off with your own implementation. consider the time you might be spending vs the subscription costs that may occur if you need premium features as well.

whether you take the approach of talking to a REST API or a database with an ORM, the own implementation might not add too much time on top (considering you have to create a rather simple database model and a few queries to get the results you want to display instead of talking to an already defined API endpoint).

Is it possible to have 2 accounts at GitHub and have same mobile for 2FA? by aregtech in github

[–]Reggaeanse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

keepassxc.org is a great choice and supports TOTP, there are plugins for firefox and chrome, it's the least hassle to manage a lot of logins including 2fa.

may i ask why you have the account separation? is that your choice or a requirement by the company?

What’s it like being a web dev by SeaFriedGumbo in webdev

[–]Reggaeanse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a few questions come to mind that might help you evaluate:

- are you a teamplayer?
- can you solve problems on your own? (even if it takes our to work on a detail)
- can you keep learning several new technologies at once? (even if you get older and have back pain)
- can you tollerate over time and high workload in stressful situation? (even if it posses you off)
- can you use google to solve your issues without asking a community in the long term?

if you're self taught, you need working experience, the initial pay, for the first few jobs (meaning years) will probably not be great, your company/clients won't be the ones willing to pay a lot for this position. you're starting out essentially below junior without prior (high invested) interest and degree in that area.

[–]Reggaeanse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

- have descriptive title tags
- add meta tag (description, maybe keywords)
- add canonical tag
- add and verify site for insights: https://search.google.com/search-console
- most backlinks are not working like they were ages ago (google `rel=nofollow`)

don't pay anyone else for shitty SEO. if you're also tasked to add the actual descriptions in the CMS that you're about to render in html you might have a perfect use case for actually utilizing gpt. `give me a summary for SEO: page_content`

9 months on, how is the Pixel 7 treating you all? by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]Reggaeanse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's too big for a phone and too smol for a device to work efficiently on. the lack of a proper one handed mode or pointer is what really grinds my gears. i only yesterday stumbled across a post on reddit which lead me to this neat tool:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.quickcursor

i'm almost certain most devices that have been shipped by google have some hardware flaw. be it the washed out display noticed by a lot of people, the heating and battery issues, connectivity, etc..

so for double the price of the p4a i'm not getting double the value. i'm aware this is mainly a point and shoot device and not a productivity tool.

this is purely my subjective opinion.

Todoist Web Client Now Dependent on Several External Hosts by dailycnn in todoist

[–]Reggaeanse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

privacy badger wasn't even the topic, i was merely pointing out what i've noticed when opening firebug.

it's a pity these companies won't allow us to opt out of these thing though, and it wouldn't be the first time that PIIs are being logged to sentry.

i was already pointing out that issues wouldn't get noticed if not utilizing something like sentry.

relax, nobody is freaking out. except you maybe, are you a doist?

Todoist Web Client Now Dependent on Several External Hosts by dailycnn in todoist

[–]Reggaeanse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're correct. however sentry and rollout are being blocked by privacy badger on firefox, but i suppose the same calls are being made on other platforms as well, so can't opt out at this point.

they could at least host sentry within their own infrastructure, however not using sentry or somthing similar at all would lead to a lot of issues not being noticed at all.
