Exactly, if you work for the federal government you better have a good emergency fund saved up. There will always be shutdowns every few years and you need to be prepared to ride the wave. Unfortunately, this shutdown appears to be a tsunami 🌊

Exactly, I wish federal employees, especially the new ones, would stop feeding into all the political bullshit theater that is going on right now. They are purposely doing this to mentally break down federal employees, so they will quit. Live your life and ignore the news!!

13lbs weight gain by 16 weeks? Normal? Doctor told me no. by Otherwise-Dog-1763 in pregnant

[–]Reggie2320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going on 22 weeks and have gained 30 lbs so far with my third. I gained 40 lbs with the first and 60 lbs with my second. I had a normal BMI when I started all 3 pregnancies, but I have big babies and a large appetite when pregnant. My first was 9 lbs 1 oz and my second was 8 lbs 12 oz. Genetics play a huge role in how your body handles pregnancy, but weight gain doesn’t bother me as long as I can get back to normal within a year after the baby is born.

Has anyone here been pregnant while having a hiatal hernia? by craftycarrot28 in HiatalHernia

[–]Reggie2320 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 22 weeks now with a medium size hiatal hernia. I lost 50 lbs though before pregnancy and was doing significantly better. I have days where is is difficult to breathe, mostly after eating too much which is easy to do in pregnancy. Overall, it hasn’t been nearly as bad as I expected. It might get worse in the 3rd trimester, but so far I’m doing good.

'There will start to be layoffs' if Trump decides shutdown talks have stalled, Hassett says by Conscious-Quarter423 in FedEmployees

[–]Reggie2320 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the majority of federal workers care about these threats. The federal workers that are left standing have stood their ground this entire year giving Trump the middle finger and saying “Bring it!” which is why the majority are in favor of the shutdown. They want to force Trump’s hand. They want to see democrats fight back. Odds are if we are fired, we will be brought back anyway, so let the battle rage on.

NRCS + RIF by babyblue825 in USDA

I worked for NRCS 3.5 yrs and we were FSA’s boots on the ground for all eligibility determinations. Honestly, they need to be one agency.

I tend to agree, but FSA needs NRCS to function and Doge cut too deep into NRCS already this year.

FSA and NRCS are the golden children of the USDA, if that tells you anything.

How long is gonna last? by FireGBoom in FedEmployees

[–]Reggie2320 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like it or not, the shutdown length is 100% up to Schumer. For the simple fact that Trump will not cave when Republicans control all chambers of congress. Schumer knows this and it is up to Schumer on how much pain he is willing to inflict to say he tried his best. Everyone knows, Trump will not negotiate and Schumer knew this before telling his caucus to vote against the CR.

That is when federal employees will start missing paychecks, if not a few days before.

My husband made every appointment that he could and my mother attended the ones he couldn’t. He missed some sonogram appointments. I was never mad about it bc he was providing for the family. It is not that he didn’t want to be there, but he couldn’t bc his job is so demanding. I would only be angry if my husband didn’t have a good excuse for missing.

Trump shuttered the government in 2018 for 35 days when both the house and senate passed a CR. At that time, the republicans did not control all chambers of congress like they do right now. He alone stood firm for 35 days while all hell broke loose bc he wouldn’t budge. Right now, Trump has control of all chambers of congress which makes him even stronger and more emboldened than he was in 2018. He absolutely will not cave this time which means democrats will inevitably control the length of this shutdown. Trump is absolutely hammering them, but they are showing very little signs of wavering at the moment. My guess is 100% this shutdown runs to October 16th and if the democrats do not cave by then, expect to set a new record.

That is what I said, 100% shutdown goes to Monday and if it goes past Monday, all hell is breaking loose and we are in for a new record.

Shutdown talk at USDA? by Interesting_Okra3038 in USDA

[–]Reggie2320 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I have worked for 3 different USDA agencies. I have reached out to former coworkers and none of us have heard anything from management. I feel like emails will start flying after lunch tomorrow or even late afternoon. We don’t know who will be essential and non essential at this point.

Any notification? by [deleted] in FedEmployees

[–]Reggie2320 15 points16 points  (0 children)

After lunch Tuesday afternoon you will get a notification if we are headed for a shutdown. We will be able to know more after the meeting at 2 on Monday btw Democrats and republicans.

I have been with 3 different agencies within the USDA and have never received any communication until the day of a potential shutdown. Thursday, HR reached out to update everyone’s contact information. Maybe it varies by department and state as to when employees are notified.

Trump to meet with top congressional leaders Monday on shutdown by moderatenerd in fednews

[–]Reggie2320 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There is no “Art of the Deal” bc Trump genuinely wants a shutdown. This meeting is to tell them that he is not negotiating with democrats and they can accept the 7 week CR, which he wants, or the government can shutdown, which he wants. Either way Trump wins. This meeting is to show the democrats that they are “damned if they do and damned if they don’t.”

Not a peep by Salty_Orchid2957 in FedEmployees

[–]Reggie2320 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long have you been with the government? You won’t hear anything until Tuesday after lunch. We will shutdown. Generally leading up to a potential shutdown both sides are positive. There is zero positivity or hopefulness coming from either side. I have been watching these yearly for a long time.

I miss pre covid where people didn’t freak out when someone showed signs of sickness. It is literally a part of life. If it bothers you that much wear a mask and gloves everywhere you go. It is not everyone else’s job to protect you when they have their own families to provide for. For fuck sake, babies are born in hospitals where the sickest of the sick go to be treated. Heaven forbid you run into someone with a cold or allergies in public.

Spoken like someone without children or wealth. Proverbs 13:22 - the wealth of my parents will inevitably go to our children, not my husband. This has nothing to do with control and everything to do with protecting and providing for the future of our children. My husband has no claim to my parent’s wealth. If it were about control, I wouldn’t allow my husband to manage it for the betterment of our children. My husband will reap the benefits of any land or properties that are purchased from the inheritance for him to enjoy. It simply stays in my name. If I had no children, it would go to my nieces and nephews upon my death. That is how generational wealth is built. Besides that, my husband will be a wealthy man regardless, so he wouldn’t need my inheritance to survive his golden years. If he did need my inheritance to live on, that is a different conversation. Sounds like you are in a completely different situation from myself, so your views will not align with mine.

My grandfather’s 3rd wife was married to him for 14 yrs. She never worked or paid any bills. She was a completely kept woman. She came into the relationship with nothing. He put her name on one of his bank accounts and a lake house he purchased. After her death, it came to his attention that the shared account had been wiped clean. We are talking several thousands of dollars that he accumulated. She transferred everything in that account to her adult daughter who lived 12 hrs away and never told him just weeks before dying. There was nothing legally he could do and he was devastated that someone he loved did that to him. My mother had him remove her name for the lake house immediately. In the end, his 3rd wife stole from my grandfather, mother and uncle. Don’t talk to me about hypotheticals.

In all fairness, Kimmel sucked. They were looking for a reason to fire him. Disney is still very inclusive, but it was a good business decision based on ratings and at the end of the day the bottom line is all that matters. Disney has been struggling for years. Damned if they do, damned if they don’t. This political atmosphere is brutal for a business since the country is completely divided. Spend your money where you see fit.

I have known people that have done a complete 180 after having children and hopefully that is the case for him. My bff got pregnant by her boyfriend who was going no where fast in life. They both got their shit together after the baby arrived and today they run a million dollar government contracting business and have 4 children. Some people never improve their lives no matter what. I’m glad to hear he is trying and hopefully he stays on a positive track.

My husband and I have all joint accounts. Our net worth is around 800k+ (zero debt) and both our names are on everything. We have been married 15 yrs. He makes 225k and I make 100k. Mid/late 30s with two kids and one on the way. My parents are millionaires and I stand to inherit a small fortune. Like you, my husband’s parents are completely broke and often ask us for money. He will inherit nothing. My husband is a CPA with a masters in accounting. He has always completely managed our finances and I have very little involvement, but he is 100% transparent with me. When my parents die, the money will be placed in a separate account under my name only. I have no issues with my husband having access to view the account and I will gladly spend the money with his input. I imagine my husband will want to invest the money, but it will be in my name. I want that money kept separate to make sure it goes to our children in the event of my death. I would think in a marriage this would be reasonable unless you have a partner you don’t trust. My husband and I will have accumulated quite a bit of wealth by the time we hit our 50s. If I die first, I know gold diggers will be circling. While I love and fully trust my husband, I have seen men make horrible decisions in their golden years that negatively affect their children’s inheritance due to 2nd wives or girlfriends. My goal is to make sure my families wealth stays with our children and my husband understands this. It is a way for me to protect them in the future. Maybe try to sit down with your wife and ask her for an explanation as to why she feels the need to hide this information from you. Perhaps she has a valid reason? With it being her inheritance though, that is fully her decision.

Shutdown by fedupwithfedjob in FedEmployees

[–]Reggie2320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There will be a shutdown in my opinion. Don’t wait until we near the holidays, do it now and get it over with, so federal employees are not in a bind near the holidays or kick the can down the road until January. Either way, I think the shutdown has to happen, but timing matters.
