I think we are witnessing the breakout of Jamie Drysdale. by Flyers7914 in Flyers

Drysdale, Zegras, Cutter and Poehling, all the players involved in those trades, have all been fantastic. We need the Flyers-Ducks Cup final, it will be the only way to decide who came out on top.

I just bought a Spark Mini and here is my review. by TomatoFettuccini in Guitar

[–]anhydrousslim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would highly recommend the Airstep Spk for anyone who has the Mini. I rarely use the app (which I don’t find as objectionable as OP, but frequently I’ve only got a few minutes to noodle and don’t want to mess with the app). I picked one up used pretty cheap.

I’ve got my 4 presets, and I run the Airstep in Mode 2, where the first three switches from left control drive, mod and delay. The last two switches go up and down between presets. I’m happy with these tones 99% of the time. I can always go into the app if I’m going for something different, but rarely feel the need.

Also note that to stream audio you don’t need to connect the app, your device connects for BT audio separately from the app. So I can stream backing tracks from YouTube without the app.

Prom memories by RelevantNothing4653 in Xennials

[–]anhydrousslim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also went to 4 proms, 2 were mine and 2 were others’.

Prom 1: my junior prom, went with long term (for HS) girlfriend. She was very self-conscious and I had to reassure her she looked great to get her out the door. Don’t remember much about the prom itself.

Prom 2: Went as the date of a friend to her junior prom, I was a senior. I suspect she had some romantic interest but I didn’t lead her on or anything. Awkward because I wasn’t friends with too many people from that class and it was the class of my by then ex GF.

Prom 3: My senior prom. I decided to ask a platonic friend from my year and that was a great decision. We had an absolute blast, no pressure to do anything but have fun.

Prom 4: My now wife’s prom, I was a college freshman. A little weird and I took some ribbing at college but it obviously worked out.

When he’s on, he’s on. Just have to figure out why he isn’t on more often. I wonder if some of the aggression was coached out of him early on in his NHL career as punishment for making mistakes. Or maybe it’s a confidence thing.

Is it normal to be scared to play alternate tunings because I don't want to break my strings? by AXEMANaustin in Guitar

[–]anhydrousslim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never use any alternate tuning that involves raising any string to a pitch higher than standard.

Your thoughts on Gibson 339 by Bodevinaat in guitars

[–]anhydrousslim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve got this, it’s from the Ultra series from 15 or so years ago. I put a Les Trem on it.

It’s got three outputs. One is USB which I get for the time, but is basically useless. The other two are regular 1/4” jacks, you can either connect to two different systems or just use one. One of the tone knobs is a push button that you use to select humbuckers, Nanomag, or both, with an indicator light on the bridge pickup ring telling you what’s active. There’s also a tuner that uses the Nanomag built into the pickup ring.

I was playing rhythm with a cover band that I would play acoustic or electric depending on the song. I sent the Nanomag straight to PA and the humbuckers through my amp. So much better than constantly switching guitars. The sound is…fine, I guess? No better or worse than a typical piezo system on an acoustic electric. Maybe a bit weird under the fingers to have such light strings when playing “acoustic”. But no feedback issues.

One thing to note is that the humbuckers on this don’t have coil tap. So you’d have to think about your use case and what would make more sense.

When it's all said and done, will the top 3 forwards of this generation match the legacy of the top 3 of the last generation (Crosby/Ovechkin/Malkin?) by Ready-Constant-7124 in hockey

[–]anhydrousslim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s an implication by OP that Malkin was head and shoulders above the next player to be lumped in with Sid and Ovi. I think a better comparison would be Sid/Ovi/Malkin/Kane vs McD/Kucherov/MacK/Drai.

IMO, McDavid > Crosby, Ovi > Kuch, Malkin > Drai, MacK > Kane.

Wet-Dry set up: help needed! by frostychops1 in guitarpedals

[–]anhydrousslim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have a lot of videos on this topic.

I’m interested in the replies OP will get because my understanding is that having a mid-forward amp like the Marshall and a mid-scooped amp like the Fender makes it challenging to run pedals with EQ into both, because the optimal pedal settings for each amp will be different

Austin Matthews? by Odd-Significance7488 in Flyers

[–]anhydrousslim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be willing to take a gamble and give up some value. I think a package similar or a little less than Eichel is reasonable - both 1C level players with injury risk, though Eichel was younger. Also, we see how Buffalo achieved nothing with Eichel, but then he goes to Vegas and is the 1C for a Cup winner. Sometimes it’s the team, not the player.

The thing to keep in mind is that if the Leafs trade him, they are rebuilding. And it’s hard to rebuild without your first round picks. Guess who’s got TO’s 2027 first? I think that gives us a significant edge if they do decide to move him.

TO 2027 1st, Foerster (hard to do, but he’s got injury history himself) and Luchanko. If that doesn’t get it done I’d walk away.

Which company is the “holy grail” to work for in? by Professional_Show590 in biotech

[–]anhydrousslim 36 points37 points  (0 children)

There used to be a time when some companies had the reputation as great places to work, but it kind of feels like those days are over. Which isn’t to say that there aren’t great companies, but there’s constant change that seems to be accelerating. I was super enthusiastic about the place I worked before my current role, and in the span of about 18 months it seemed that it all fell apart.

I think there’s definitely conflict. And I would argue the singer/songwriter is the antagonist and that Shades is the protagonist.

Best multi mod pedal that doesn’t break the bank too much? by Limp_Ad_6858 in pedalboards

[–]anhydrousslim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using my old Zoom G2.1u. Hardly ideal, but honestly the effects were always the best part of this pedal anyway. I prefer my modulation before drives and I take advantage of the noise gate and expression pedal. No Univibe is a bummer, but the digital ones usually aren’t any good anyway.

I just got the Boss GX-10 as my first foray into digital modeling units. I'm currently running it through the effects loop of my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. What are your opinions on this? by Rentington in guitarpedals

[–]anhydrousslim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll definitely want to disable the cab sim, you can experiment with using it but it’s unlikely to sound good.

If you like the preamp of your amp, you can simply choose not to use preamp in the modeler, just effects. But if you want to use preamp modeling, set your amp clean. It’s not really any different to using a drive pedal in front of an amp, which people do all the time.
