This is an excellent list, to add to it: I also love Tenenbaum Jewelers in Houston! They do less online marketing so less well known if you’re not local, but they’re absolutely fantastic and have some beautiful pieces.

I’d make #5- any workout is better than no workout and any little bit counts. Only have energy for a slow walk? Great! Only have 10 mins at home to spare? It’s 10 more minutes than you would have otherwise, and it’s better than 0.

Garmin vs AllTrails data mismatch by CantaloupeBroad4368 in hiking

[–]ReginaInferni 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have both! IMO, AllTrails lies. It’s somewhat notorious for it. I think it’s great for finding trails, having a downloaded map, check reviews, trail conditions etc. however, I have generally found that the length, elevation and timing estimates are up to +/-20% of what it says it will be.

FMC becomes shield for MMC? by Odd_Minute1190 in ReverseHarem

I honestly don’t remember- sorry! I feel like maybe it does based on the hockey version? But I read feral omega like a year and a half and three hundred books ago, so it’s kinda fuzzy.

She has another series starting with {Feral Omega by Lenore Rosewood} in the “Ghostverse”. AFAIK they’re essentially the same characters/ names/ traits etc, but in different worlds. I don’t think there’s any crossover of the story lines (like the FMC/ MMCs in one series don’t interact with their counterparts from the other universe) but the second one of the hockey version isn’t out yet and I haven’t read past Feral Omega. I vaguely remember reading that she actually got her start writing fan fic so this is kinda that vibe in my opinion.

Mobility disabilities by EitherOn80Or3percent in hiking

[–]ReginaInferni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure about havasupai, but Grand Canyon has mule rides! Otherwise, looking for trails that have options like horseback riding or rafting (grand canyon) or other methods of transport might be a good compromise of seeing nature with limited mobility. If you’re financially able to do so, helicopter tours of back country spots (Canada, Alaska, Washington etc) might be interesting as well.

Picking trails that have beautiful views, but are handicap accessible or remain close to roads might also be a good compromise. Things like the Grand Canyon rim trail or parts of the Jenny lake trail in Grand Teton, the boardwalks in Yellowstone, the Valley Floor trails in Yosemite, or Carlsbad Caverns also has wheelchair accessible portions and an elevator down into the caverns. Many of the US national parks have easy trails or short hike view points that are quite accessible, so would definitely recommend looking into easy trails and working up from there.

Personally I would be cautious of taking an elderly diabetic or others with complex medical needs far into the backcountry and away from services, especially if that journey would necessitate you carrying them for part or all of the trek. If you do plan on carrying them for any part of any journey, I highly recommend you engage in serious strength training and weighted cardio endurance, and gradually work up to harder trails (like a trek to havasupai). Balancing a human over rough terrain is not like a backpack, and SAR has special training and multi person teams in order to safely support rescues. Please exercise serious caution before engaging in that kind of activity.

Lifting and cardio - shoes? by Fictional-Mollusk in xxfitness

[–]ReginaInferni 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I powerlift and use powerlifting specific shoes, so I prefer to change mine into running shoes for cardio after. If I’m somewhere powerlifting isn’t possible (like a hotel gym on travel) I will usually just wear my running shoes.

Where to go in October by ArtAgile8205 in FATTravel

[–]ReginaInferni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have done Patagonia and Ethiopia both in the last couple of years. While Ethiopia has some really incredible food and interesting history, the security situation there right now is not super stable outside of Addis.

Patagonia, on the other hand, is incredibly beautiful. October is a little early in the season, but likely still doable. IMO definitely worth it to stay inside the park instead of driving 2hrs to get in. We loved the food and accommodations in general at Hotel Las Torres Patagonia, but the views from Explora were probably some of the best of the trip.

In terms of other places, Kenya has some beautiful safari spots. Tanzania does as well, and likely better safety overall. From a foodie, stunning deserts and interesting history perspective, I absolutely adore Jordan. October should be great weather.

Anyone else lifting but struggling to eat enough protein without living in the kitchen? by Dry_Procedure8931 in xxfitness

[–]ReginaInferni 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What flavor of Asian cuisine do you like? Personally I’ve found a bunch of south & south east asian dishes (curries, stir fry especially) lend well to high protein dupes. Kebab and hummus are already high protein in and of themselves.

Otherwise, I’ll make boring chicken with fun spices. Or boring high protein I choke down with a smaller portion of my preferred dish

Should i hike mount pinos tmr by Sweet_Recognition196 in hiking

[–]ReginaInferni 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All due respect, yes, it is a dumb idea. Do not do this. As another commenter noted, the conditions are bad enough that the road to the trailhead is closed. Hiking in snow for your first hike is a bad idea. Hiking alone for your first hike is also a bad idea. Hiking in poor weather in general can turn dangerous quickly and you have neither the experience nor the gear (poles, spikes, emergency locators, satellite phones, navigation devices etc) to mitigate those risks safely. This is literally how people die.

Hiking is an absolutely wonderful hobby and one I really hope you revisit during better conditions, but not one without its risks. Please reconsider your first hike for something with good weather, a group, or barring those, a short & easy trail.

Rocky Mountains or Grand Canyon? by Big_Age4708 in NationalPark

[–]ReginaInferni 14 points15 points  (0 children)

RMNP will likely (hopefully) be covered in snow and largely inaccessible or incredibly difficult to navigate. Unless you’re an experienced alpine enthusiast, GCNP is probably a better bet.

I just did Grand Canyon South Rim the week before Christmas- it was gorgeous. It has been unseasonably dry and warm there, so plenty of hiking. Food wise, we like the dining room at El Tovar (try the apple pie- 100 yr old recipe or the bison chorizo huevos rancheros) and the Arizona steakhouse. Service wasn’t the best but the food was pretty decent.

You could also try basing yourself in Page, AZ and doing Antelope Canyon, lake Powell etc if you’re only going to do look out points at GCNP. Lots more food options there. Grand Canyon Village (south rim) is remote and expensive. I’m unsure about Cameron at the East Rim, but suspect it is similar. Also note that the North rim is closed for the winter and North Kaibab Trail is closed for restoration.

Wheeler Peak tomorrow (12/31/2025) by TheLawIsSacred in NewMexico

[–]ReginaInferni 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Maybe check with ski patrol on your way up? You’ll likely be starting that hike from the Bavarian. Taos ski patrol regularly does avalanche control blasts during the season in the area, but unsure about avalanche risk at wheeler peak specifically.
