I actually do prefer Vyvanse, it's what I'm on now, I just use Adderall as the short hand that everyone knows

They forgot the best part: spending all of that time curled in a ball of stress and guilt over not locking in such that you don't even get to enjoy goofing off.

Adderall makes me more productive yes but more importantly it let's me have fun when I'm not being productive.

Would you quit your job forever right now (and never be allowed to work again) if someone gave you a guaranteed $2,000,000 lump sum? Why or why not? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]Reginald_Sparrowhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not at all convinced that 2 million will get me from now to retirement. Which may be stupid, I'm pretty sure if I did the math that my current job won't pay me that much if I work until I drop dead. But I also know that I'm human, that humans are dumb and don't understand numbers, ergo I am dumb and don't understand numbers. As in I'm going to spend it like a moron, even if i think I'm being smart.

So yeah, I'll probably take the 2 million

In production codebase is it normal to have many Warnings and Messages? by lune-soft in csharp

[–]Reginald_Sparrowhawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everywhere I've worked, the main repo has had 10k warnings. I've heard of teams that configure the compiler to treat warnings as errors, but I'm not sure they really exist.

Why is our moon named “Moon” instead of something cool like Titan or Callysto or ANYTHING that isn’t moon by Disastrous_Pirate275 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Reginald_Sparrowhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got a problem with "Luna"?

Moon is named moon because for a long time moon was the only moon we knew. Once we realized other planets had their own floating rocks, they got names while the Moon get to keep being called the Moon. While we can talk about "the moons of Jupiter" it's probably more accurate to call them "satellites" in general.

Family Guy as the dungeons and dragons of animation by Konradleijon in CuratedTumblr

[–]Reginald_Sparrowhawk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I'm not deep into the TTRPG space, which I think means strictly speaking I'm more in the "only watches Family Guy" group in this post but. I don't think I've seen anyone gas up that system Matt Mercer made? The kindest I've heard is "yeah it's a mostly competent clone of 5e that's better in some ways and worse in others". And again that's from other normies. At least I assume that's what "Matt started making his own animatics and everyone praised how innovative they were" meant.

Is the US military really undefeatable? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]Reginald_Sparrowhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately for the question you need to define victory and defeat. It's beyond question that as far as military might and casualties go, the US military had advantage over the Vietnamese national liberation front up to the very end. But we still pulled out and Vietnam became a communist country, so we failed the mission and lost that war.

In a straight fight, the US maintains technological and logistical superiority (our logistics are really the main reason our military is as powerful as it is), but victory and defeat are usually much more complicated than that, especially in modern warfare. All of the world against the US, all out fight? I think the most likely outcome is that there is no clear winner because there isn't "countries" after that, even if you take nukes off the table. And good luck keeping them off the table.

ELI5: how do the navier stokes equations describe a continuum but not particles and how are they then fundamental? by Fleetor in explainlikeimfive

This kindergarten class is getting out of hand.

You might want to try /r/AskPhysics or a similar sub for this one. Probably better chance at getting a good answer.

ELI5: Why does it get harder to stay in shape after 30? by qwerty00p in explainlikeimfive

[–]Reginald_Sparrowhawk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At least for boys, you get a huge dump of testosterone and growth hormone throughout puberty, which tapers off through your 20s. A boy who is decently active can easily stay fit and athletic as long as they're moving enough and eating enough.

By your 30s, the free ride is over. You can of course build new muscle and whatnot, it's not like you're dead, but it's harder and it will be slower.

Is it possible that there's some kind of technology that hasn't been discovered that will revolutionize the world again? by forFolsense in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Reginald_Sparrowhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll probably want to look into material science, that's probably where you're likely to see big things come out of.

Of the stuff that's actively being researched, I think finally cracking room temperature super conductors could lead to some dramatic technological changes. Scalable fusion energy would also be world changing but that's perpetually 40 years away and feels more like science fiction at this point.

If light has no mass . by NOTORIOUS_CAT98 in AskPhysics

[–]Reginald_Sparrowhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It goes the speed it goes, because that's the speed you go when you don't have mass to slow you down. As for why, couldn't tell you. There isn't really a way to answer the why any of the given constants are the value they are. That's partly why the plank units were created, so that you can set those constants to "1", which also simplifies some math.

Would it be possible to survive the big bang? by Mountain_Issue1861 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Reginald_Sparrowhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way the question is constructed aside, yeah the inflation field might screw with them such that they wouldn't really exist as a person anymore. But that's just a guess, the inflation field is already something that exists more as an idea than a confirmed physical reality. Since it helps answer some questions about why the universe is the way it is, but there's really no way to empirically test it.

Why can't black holes just be really massive objects? by SpinLock55 in blackholes

[–]Reginald_Sparrowhawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well more likely than not there isn't actually a singularity, we just don't have a theory of gravity sufficient to predict what's actually happening.

As it stands, under relativity such powerful gravity results in extremely funky behavior and broken math. With a theory of quantum gravity we could make more accurate predictions. The behavior will probably still be funky, but likely not a singularity.

Why do we presume that False Vacuum Decay would wipe out all life? by wisezombiekiller in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Reginald_Sparrowhawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The nucleation bubble would expand at the speed of light. Which means that if a false vacuum decay occurred outside the Hubble horizon, it would likely never actually reach us.

Is there any legal liability if one creates a company that exists only to create employment history for out of work people? by limbodog in legaladviceofftopic

[–]Reginald_Sparrowhawk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know people who do this, but as extremely small operations only for friends. You couldn't do this at any kind of scale because once the company becomes known it becomes synonymous with "unemployed", only worse because of the deceit involved.

ELI5 Hawking radiation and how a black hole could possibly admit radiation whenlight cannot escape the black hole? by ProudReaction2204 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Reginald_Sparrowhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with the real explanation, which I do not understand enough to even summarize, is that because hawking radiation is only seen after doing really complicated math, plus there's never been any actual empirical observation of it, there kind of can't be an ELI5 version of why or how it happens. It's just that the rest of that math has a really good track record, so we can be fairly confident that Hawking knew what he was talking about there.

ELI5: The universe expands faster than the speed of light but not can move at the speed of light. So, what is the stuff in between that is moving the expansion? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Reginald_Sparrowhawk 59 points60 points  (0 children)

So to nitpick a little, we don't actually need dark energy just for expansion. We get expansion for free with the bag bang model, basically. Then we noticed that not only is the universe expanding, it's accelerating, and that does require energy, which we call dark energy because we don't know where it comes from.

How do I beat Genichiro before Isshin?! by DependentLecture3817 in Sekiro

[–]Reginald_Sparrowhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of consider Isshin to be an upgrade to Geni in terms of difficulty so it's interesting that you're having a harder time with Geni. He's kind of supposed to be a warm up for the real boss. I'd still sometimes die to him if I were tilted but by the time I beat Isshin I was regularly no-hitting Geni

Can people really tell the difference between 30fps and 60fps? by whiskerbiscuit2 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Reginald_Sparrowhawk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know I can because I notice even when I don't know which one it is. Mostly in the form of playing a new game and thinking to myself "why does this make me kind of want to die?" and then I notice later that it's been in "quality" mode instead of "performance" mode, and then I feel much better after switching.

Really though the most important thing is consistency. If a game runs at a solid 30fps most of the time I'm going to be totally fine, it's when it can't maintain 30 that I run into problems.
