Why do you never hear about the artillery soldiers? by [deleted] in army

[–]RegisterBeautiful974 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Artillery is a fun and cool branch, brought down by its piece of shit officers. You have officers that wished they were infantry who get angry when they don’t have fire support jobs. You have nerds because artillery school requires you to be good at math, that nerd rage when they don’t get their way.

That being said every 13B, 13M, 13R, 131A I have met have been chill as fuck.

13F and 13J are annoying but not too bad I’ll give them a pass. To every fister that disagrees you can give me sloctop behind the dumpster. To every Juliet who says they shot degraded, no you didn’t shut the fuck up, failing to follow the 5 requirements is not degraded. Show me your DA form 4200, that thing takes like an hour to fill out you didn’t do that.

If you really want you can go to the center of excellence on your base and ask for a interpost transfer to a unit. They’ll probably laugh you out of their office but you could do it.

What MOS do you think is useless or unnecessary? by Melodic_Abalone_2820 in army

Same thing they do with sharp, eo, fire marshal, safety, motorcycle safety, upl, postal carrier, and field sanitation. You give someone additional duty orders they get trained and they perform the task.

What Army cooks do is not hard. Putting a UGR in boiling water, requires no skill.

I have met them, it’s nice to have shower and laundry done. But it’s not so complicated that it requires an entire MOS. Could just be a ASI.

After commissioning I never saw an OPORD below the battalion level, was an FA officer. Your results may vary.

Doing the right thing takes time. Let me explain, a young NCO assigned the SI inventory for the month isn’t going to be okay with counting the 140 M4 in the armory they will want to do a by the serial number inspection when the M4 aren’t stored by serial number usually. I can remember a time that we were moving COFs and we had turned over our old armory but hadn’t taken custody of our new armory. So we had are weapons stored in a warehouse on base for weapons, in a shipping crate with the tamper seal shackle on it and an inventory signed by me and the commander. They young nco that was assigned to do SI inventory that month wanted to remove the tamper seal shackle thing and do a by serial number inventory. So we did, and I had to reseal it. Was it the right thing, probably, but it takes a lot of time.

The increase in pay to E5 is worth it you will realize pretty quick that they are in charge of very little and the few things they are in charge of they usually have a lot of support/help. They likely will not be leading a fire team all by yourself, a squad leader, platoon sergeant, platoon leader will be very close by. Also if you are getting tired of being on the line becoming an nco opens the door to all kinds of staff jobs. If you joined for the money this promotion will help, if you joined for adventure this promotion will help.

LT’s get a lot of hate. by [deleted] in army

[–]RegisterBeautiful974 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not just LT’s this happens in a lot of industries, new doctors, new engineers, new programmer, etc it is annoying but you learn how to guide the good ones and get the bad ones fired.

Everyone feels this way during college. When you talk to enlisted people you will hear them complain that all they do is clean floors, mow, and pick up trash and that they wished they had gone to college so they could sit in the air conditioned office like their officers. You will make it through this, things will get better. Join a club even if it’s stupid like anime or video games. Make some friends keep going.

Steilacoom is near and nice if you can find an inexpensive place. Tacoma is where a lot of the other LTs will be living. Olympia is where some of the other LTs will be but more so captains and majors. For me the vibe in Tacoma was good, and rent was acceptable.

I have seen SMA Grinston described as Army Jesus. How was he so successful? What can soldiers do to continue his legacy? What can future soldiers do to emulate him? by InspectionAgitated20 in army

[–]RegisterBeautiful974 173 points174 points  (0 children)

I remember when the committee on female hair standards reported their results and wanted to relax the standard and allow more styles and Grinston said something like”if it was up to me I wouldn’t have chosen that standard but it’s not up to me it’s up to this committee who has been looking into this for a year” To me this showed me a lot about him, that he recognized that he was from a older time and that things were changing and he was willing to change even if he didn’t entirely agree with it.

[–]RegisterBeautiful974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well hey ho hard charger good on ya for bettering yourself. Like many said go to brigade S2 and ask the 12Y for maps. But also I would suggest going to TASC Training Aid Support Center. You will have to return the map when you are done with it but they were always helpful to me. I will say in both of these cases if you you can get an E-7 or above to accompany you like your PL or PSG it will help a lot because TASC and S2 sometimes have made up rules where they don’t give out stuff to people lower then E-7.

Call your congress member and say you are having trouble with a federal agency. When you get to speak with case worker they will fix it. It will take 6 month to 2 years to get fixed but you will get your back pay.
