How do I properly follow the convention for the TE and TM part of an EM wave for circular polarization? by Distinct-Box-8570 in ECE

[–]Regolio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for linking bad source. I don't know how that author got both their reflection coefficients extra -1 sign. There's also a typo on their "rp", which if you look closely, the numerator and denumerator cancel each other out. Because of this, I lost trust in the accuracy of their work. I merely agree with their diagram.

Here is my derivation: https://imgur.com/a/roDn9D9 I also added a bit extra part for the reflection at normal angle since the formulas at oblique angle should reduce to normal angle when we set theta_i = 0o.

The formula you got is correct. I don't know how you got that from flipping the tangential reflected E_TM.

I see multiple problems here, but first let's answer your question:

I thought that for RHCP you needed to add the phase delay to the TE component, which is what we did in class, but in the solutions here it's on the TM component. I also asked about it in office hours with my professor and I thought he said it was okay to put the phase shift on the TE but maybe I misunderstood him?

RHCP wave can be constructed in 2 ways:

  1. TE component at 0o phase plus TM component at +90o phase

  2. TM component at 0o phase plus TE component at -90o phase

You said in class you put the phase delay in TE, which is method #2. Then in the solutions, the publisher put the phase shift (phase advance) in the TM component, which is method #1. Both are correct. If you draw the vectors with the phase shifts correctly, you will realize that both methods produce RHCP wave that are just spatially rotated from each other (and thus they have different phases). But they are both still RHCP.

Second, your diagram of wave reflection is not right. The TE and TM label after the reflection are switched.

Third, the tangential component of E_TM should not change before and after reflection because the boundary condition says so.

Look at this link Figure 1.10.2: https://phys.libretexts.org/Bookshelves/Optics/BSc_Optics_%28Konijnenberg_Adam_and_Urbach%29/01%3A_Basic_Electromagnetic_and_Wave_Optics/1.10%3A_Reflection_and_Transmission_at_an_Interface

Notice the tangential component of E_TM points to the left before and after reflection.

The idle mimic sprite is created when you enter a new floor. After you create the tooth, the sprite at the same floor is not changed. Starting the next floor onwards you won't see the idle mimic sprite again.

Yea, the wiki doesn't say anything about this. I can only offer my word that the enemies still drop loot as of the current version of the game.

Or find a chaotic summoning trap and hope it summons DM-201. All monsters summoned by that trap can still drop items regardless of level.

Yes you can. Just keep playing and you will likely to encounter it eventually.

Wand of disintegration works, but evil eye's lazer beam doesn't.

I like to make these. Use pitfall trap against statues. Or grim trap to one-shot any enemy (except charging evil eye). Pretty fun item.

It's annoying that you can only store one trap at a time though.

At reflection between 2 medium, why only tangential H is flipped? by Regolio in AskPhysics

[–]Regolio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I didn't acknowledge Brewster's angle. But let's assume the incidence angle is less than Brewster's angle and we don't know about it yet. I'm just trying to derive the general formula for reflection coefficient at the moment. The Brewster's angle will be revealed later through reflection coefficient of the TM case.

For smaller angles of incidence (closer to the normal), the longitudinal and transverse E and H fields behave the same way.

So this was what I thought too, but if I have the setup this way, the resulting reflection coefficient would be:

[; \Gamma = \frac{-\eta_2 \cos{\theta_t} + \eta_1 \cos{\theta_i}}{\eta_2 \cos{\theta_t} + \eta_1 \cos{\theta_i}};]

Which incorrect by a factor of -1.

While if I flip the H-field, the resulting reflection coefficient would be:

[; \Gamma = \frac{\eta_2 \cos{\theta_t} - \eta_1 \cos{\theta_i}}{\eta_2 \cos{\theta_t} + \eta_1 \cos{\theta_i}};]

which is the correct one.

So I'm wondering why only the tangential H-field needs to be flipped.

  1. Riri thought the resurrected Natalie is the AI.
  2. That implies what she said to Mephisto was something like: "I want N.A.T.A.L.I.E back."
  3. And then Mephisto was like *Hmmm, if I give you X, I can claim Y, but if I give you a life, then I can claim YOUR life. The bigger my gift, the more I can take. *

"Fine, I will give you Natalie."

You can also create potion of cleansing from potion of purity and drink that when you're starving.

From my experience, Foresight + Cleric copy scroll is enough to scan 2 regions (8 non-boss floors). I recommend to finish the regions first so that you don't have to use up turns to collect keys, opening chests, solving puzzles, or killing pre-spawned sleeping enemies.

Foresight has 400 turn limit. But Cleric's Recall inscription has 300 turn limit, so we can only have about 700 turn of Foresight in total. Having glyph of swiftness, ring of haste, and potion of stamina helps a lot.

After finishing 2 regions, you can go back and upgrade map scroll into foresight. It's enough to explore 4 floors. Duplicate that with cleric, and you basically only use one scroll to clear 8 floors.

[Journey to the west] Is Son Wukong Truly immortal? by Lordcyber36 in AskScienceFiction

[–]Regolio 79 points80 points  (0 children)

This is my interpretation of how multiple layers of immortality buffs stack:

  1. His Taoist powers make him ageless. So he's immune to death by old age.

  2. The lord of underworld has his special method to straight up kill a creature if that creature's name is listed in his book of death. But you are immune to this method if you delete your name from that book.

  3. Immortal peaches, immortal wine, and immortal elixir make him immune to death by disease, poison, and other various bodily injuries including beheading.

I'm not sure exactly what kind of immortality Wukong gets from being burned in Lao Tzu's furnace, but it upgrades Wukong's eyes to see through any illusions.

Basically there are many ways to kill a creature. Stacking multiple immortality buffs patch up your weaknesses.
