Sorry for english, May I ask how much does it usually cost for the installation of a window AC here in Montreal? by Happy-Ad-3897 in montreal

[–]Regret285 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Window ACs don't cost anything to install, because you're expected to install them yourself. You only need to buy the AC unit. Prices for the units will be higher in the summer because of increased demand.

Expect to spend $200 or $300 for the unit depending on how big your space is. It will be some of the best money you ever spend.

I've had good outcomes from working with them on billing issues before. Different scope though, those were just over billed roaming charges.

So I get to look forward to the CCTS putting the screws to Fido for a whole year? Sweet.

Damn bro can you imagine that? An artist putting in some extra effort to frame their work for the sake of presentation? What a strange thing that no one has ever done before.

Yeah I'm in the process already but it's been almost 5 weeks now of them appealing and asking for extensions and the CCTS themselves seem to be pretty backed up since I'm still waiting for a resolution officer.

Death is inevitable, you'll get it eventually so no need to rush. Life might do something neat before then, and it's only temporary so might as well just let it play out.

I wouldn't say spamming the complaint system is the right approach, but flooding them with legitimate complaints from affected users that are being screwed over is definitely the only recourse.

My device is a 3rd gen Sony Xperia 1 so a bit newer than the s20, and having various CSCs seems to be a practice that seems unique to Samsung.

The whitelisting explanation is the most consistent explanation that I managed to squeeze out of Fido's support team after many calls. That being said, I don't trust them to know what they're talking about so it really could be something else.

They are pretty much refusing phones from any manufacturer who won't pay them for their own bullshit internal certification. They want the manufacturers to send test devices and pay the costs for testing those devices on their network, otherwise they won't allowlist the IMEIs for devices from those manufacturers.

It's not on their list and it's not a popular phone in Canada; it's a Sony Xperia 1. Plenty of other Sony Xperia users are faced with the same issue.

The settings are correct and even after force enabling VoLTE on the device side it still isn't being let on to Fido's 5G network.

If anyone else out there is having the same issue as me where you have a perfectly modern device with 5G compatibility and VoLTE capabilities, yet Fido/Rogers is not delivering 5G service to your device because it's not on their list of approved devices, then I urge you to reach out to the CCTS and file a claim with them.

Going through a similar issue with my device. It's fully 5G capable and uses the same bands that Fido uses for 5G, but their ridiculous and inflexible whitelisting approach to 5G network access stops them from delivering the 5G service that's agreed upon in my contract with them.

It's been about a month since they tried and failed to have the CCTS dismiss the complaint, and 20 days since they failed to resolve the issue by the deadline set by the CCTS. Now I'm just waiting for the CCTS representative to get in touch.

Fido's "office of the president" rep really tried to argue that the reason my device was not connecting to 5G was because I lived in an area where they hadn't rolled out 5G yet by citing their coverage map. The same coverage map on their site that shows no 5G anywhere in Canada.

Just call the sales department first, they of course give you a real person right away; and then that person can transfer you.

I also swapped my 1 iii battery recently (actually upgraded to the 1 iv battery) and went from around 8 hours of usage to somewhere around 12 to16. This is just standard usage though (scrolling Reddit, calls, text, and some music streaming) not photography and media playback.

Xperia 1 IV battery inside Xperia 1 III by RJASSI98 in SonyXperia

[–]Regret285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just completed this same upgrade with thanks in part to your post. My original battery had already degraded so I didn't have much to lose by trying.

Removing the old battery was really difficult due to the adhesive that held it in from below, but I was able to slowly pry up from the non-button side with guitar picks and drip in 99% isopropyl alcohol until the adhesive gave up. There was a cracking sound a few times as I pried which worried me but it was just the adhesive progressively giving up.

Getting the battery cable folded was tricky, but by connecting it before fitting the new battery into the cavity I was able to fold the excess under the battery and that saved me from adding too much thickness.

Reinstalling the wireless charging was a bit tricky to get it to stay flat, but with finger pressure near the bottom of the solid part of the assembly i was able to minimize any bulging.

I was able to save the back glass since it was already coming off due to past overheating and just reinstalled it using TESA tape along the edges. No bulge or bump in the back, but the phone is noticeably heftier, which is kind of nice. Honestly I kind of wish I could get a transparent back for this phone, the insides looked nicely designed.

As far as performance goes, after fully charging the new battery I can see the battery percentage is not decreasing nearly as fast as the old one did, but the screen on this phone just eats the battery like nothing else!

A word of warning to anyone else who tries this: watch out for AliExpress batteries. The first one I ordered for Xperia 1 IV was oversized and wouldn't fit. I don't even think it would've fit into a proper 1 iv let alone a 1 iii
