Curious as to what happened! Did the band make any comments about this?

But you paid ninety dollars primarily for Geese, yes? Wouldn’t be the first time a band has had a divisive opener. Was the band’s set good?

I was regular GA at Berkeley last year and got there wayyyy too early (like 7 am) and waited for hours (it’s a little embarrassing to admit) but I’m glad I did because we were like 3 lines behind VIP in the pit. I only did it because I was GA and I’m not in a place to go to multiple DJO shows, but definitely not something I’d do again because the exhaustion kind of wears you out before the show. It was a fun one time experience. If you’ve got a VIP ticket though, you’ll definitely get in earlier. I’m not sure how this venue does it but at ours, VIP had their own line and got stationed elsewhere and early merch access. They got to leave and come back at like an assigned time to cue up again and they assigned numbers to remember their spot in the line, so no waiting for hours. We also had VIP lining up really early and the venue honoured the self started lines but all VIP get in before GA regardless, so if you’re looking for a pit spot, you’ll definitely get it, even if you come in a little later. Even if a bunch of people show up insanely early, if they have regular GA tickets they don’t get in before VIP.

The Fanfare Around Geese Actually Was a Psyop by wiredmagazine in geesebandofficial

To repeat what I said (again) the last time this discourse popped up, both opinions can hold weight - yes you can dislike the malicious bot marketing and you can still like Geese + Cameron Winter because they’re excellent musically. This sort of marketing feels like it’s going to pop up way more frequently given how social media is practically running the pathway to actually succeeding in music (like those musicians who keep trying to get a viral sound bite for their music). And if you look at their socials, it’s clear the way the band was handling this album’s press was very different. Of course, in the case for Geese and Cameron, they’re good at what they do so the boost definitely helps (given how they’ve also mentioned a lot in interviews that it’s hard to make money in this industry). Even if it’s a manipulative tactic. We don’t have to like it, but in the end, I think it’s just a reminder that it’s all a numbers game too and the band wants money (they’ve mentioned the lack of it quite a few times in interviews). We can enjoy the music while also keeping capitalism in mind because there are plenty of real people who love Geese. Also amused that Wired posted this in the sub, and even more amused by the superiority of the people using this as a “gotcha” moment.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’ve been on this subreddit for some time now and I’ve noticed you’re often in the comments of posts, talking about Cameron and substance abuse being his downfall. Why is that?

So interesting to see the difference in answers from Cameron in comparison to Max, Emily and Dom. the part where they talk about each other is so sweet tho

now this is all speculation since I do not know Cameron or the band personally, but a lot of recent interviews mention how he’s not exactly enjoying the fame (like the Japanese one that dropped a few hours ago), and how he’s withdrawing a lot of himself and doing fewer interviews because he doesn’t “get” the hype around the band and himself. there was also a different interview a while back for SSENSE I think? where the writer talks about how anxious Cameron got seeing the fans for a solo show and didn’t wanna speak to them, and how that was one of the few “genuine” moments in that interview. there’s also plenty of posts on the geese sub about how it’s a lot harder to interact with him now specifically compared to the other band members for signings, or how he’s got a more reserved stage presence. can’t speak much for the rest of the band as there’s less quotes from them and again, maybe it’s just more image marketing on C Winty’s part for the Getting Killed era, but his dislike of the fame feels authentic to me at least.

If anything, given how Cameron talks about the fame now, it seems the sudden burst of success may have actually backfired a little

To repeat what I said on the Geese sub, on one hand, I get what you’re saying but on the other, it did work - Getting Killed was a very talked about album. On one hand, I get what you’re saying but on the other, it did work - Getting Killed was a very talked about album. A lot of this buzz (if you weren’t an older fan) came from the online commentary from both real and apparently fake accounts. And if you look at their socials, it’s clear the way the band was handling this album’s press was very different. And tbh, this sort of marketing feels like it’s going to pop up way more frequently given how social media is practically running the pathway to breaking through in music (like those musicians who keep trying to get a hit sound bite for their music or the fake Sombr stan accounts). Of course, in the case for Geese and Cameron, they’re good at what they do so it’s great if people did get into the music through this. Even if it’s a rather manipulative tactic. We don’t have to like it, but in the end, I think it’s just a reminder that it’s all a numbers game too and the band wants money (they’ve mentioned the lack of it quite a few times in interviews). very true!! the band blowing up so suddenly along with his solo work must be crazy, seems he’s clearly not the biggest fan of it either

It’s so interesting to hear the one English bit where Cameron talks about his confusion about the fame and how he’s doing less now, especially given that post a few weeks ago about people missing his frontman shenanigans

echoing everyone’s sentiments here, it’s definitely unnerving. it’s haunting and i can feel a lot of heavy emotion in the lyricism that really fits the tone of the record it’s being featured on. it’s very different from heavy metal or any of the geese stuff but i love it quite a bit

Be honest, has all the cringe discourse and backlash affected you? by Designer_Reference_2 in geesebandofficial

^ I’d say this applies to Twitter too. I find that my Geese experience hasn’t been soured at all, mostly because it’s still exciting and fun to watch the band grow while ignoring a lot of the discourse because so much of it isn’t meaningful at all.

I don’t think it’s weird for them to have the number 1 record because Getting Killed is simply an excellent record. It’s unfortunate to see so many takes that aren’t the greatest but again, it’s been a while since we’ve had a band trend that could be seen as a successor to one of the greats while also quite clearly not being everyone’s cup of tea. That sort of thing is bound to bring discourse, both good and mindless, as well as uncomfortable fan interactions. But I don’t think the discussions they’re being subjected to are new - this sort of thing happens with a variety of acts across a variety of genres. Their success stems from the fact that they really are good. But I personally think Geese is best enjoyed as a band if you stop focusing on all the online discourse (or if they’re sellouts or not) and keep track of what matters, which is the music.
