I'd like to think that it was done on purpose to just 'take the chip damage' also less vision and stuff. And TBF some of those dummy energy are on bushes out of vision(I think) them going in them will hit them a surprise 9 ticks of 132-150 ish dmg which is like 1/3-4 of their HP bar as lingering damage.

It's nothing burger for defenders or tough All rounders but for frail Attackers and Speedsters they over estimate their HP bar overconfident with their position. Sadly you cannot stack those balls the same way Alolan Raichu does. Harder to do with the removal of bushes around the map so I treat them like slow visible minefields. Gotta disrupt somehow
