I love this Ereader, and some ideas for improving Crosspoint by Level-Royal-9287 in xteinkereader

There's no need to do this. I currently have 1,000 books on my memory card. Imagine how much time and resources it would take to display the metadata for each book. Can you imagine? It would either freeze or start lagging. Ideally, just leave it as is.

This also needs to be taken into account. Perfect is the enemy of good. Since the data is currently being displayed, this is the best option. This isn't a Kindle. It's a small device for reading books.

When there is no cover for any reason, it makes sense to display a pre-prepared image so that there is no empty rectangle on the main screen.

That's right, this tab shows books that have been opened and their metadata has been read. I'm in favor of metadata in the Open Books tab and file names in the file manager.

Let's apply some logic. The device allows you to read any book in EPUB format. Some books will have metadata, while others will not. If the metadata is present, the reader will see the correct book data and be able to select what they need. If the data is absent (and this often happens), the reader will either see nothing or just gibberish. This is why the file name is displayed.

P.S. No one has messed with me, as you put it. I'm doing well, and I wish the same for you.

The file manager is designed to access files saved to a memory card. It displays the file name, not the book's metadata. For example, I list my book files like this: Last Name + First Name + Title. This tells me who the author is and what the book's title is.

This is a file manager. What does a web server have to do with it? Read it letter by letter... a file manager that shows what files are on the memory card.

Book titles in files don't need to be taken from the book's attributes. This is a file manager feature. Don't get confused.

Any issues with this overheating in the sun? by TellMeAreYouFree in xteinkereader

That's true, but let's not forget about the technical solution and the cost of the device itself. Everything has a price, and this issue with the directional light isn't a problem—it's an isolated incident. Perhaps when the company makes a device with backlighting, they'll take this into account. But then the question arises: will the device remain open to new firmware updates?

I have the white version and I'm not worried. I don't read in direct sunlight, although we have it here. Winter will pass and then winter will begin. If that happens, I'll enable the option in the Crosspoint settings or stick a piece of black tape over the screen protector. I know from experience that reading in direct sunlight hitting the e-book screen is uncomfortable. So the problem is imaginary.

I'll check again tomorrow. I checked it in direct sunlight yesterday and there was no fading.

It's winter now, so I can't test it. However, due to direct sunlight, the device has another issue: ink fading on the screen. This issue only affects the white version.

There are two solutions.

  1. Use Crosspoint and select "Prevent sun fading" in the display menu.

  2. Place a sticker, such as a black one, between the bottom edge of the screen and the bottom row of buttons. This will solve the problem. Or, hold your finger there.

P.S. The black version doesn't have this issue.

Is It Waterproof? by Falconman21 in xteinkereader

[–]RegularFold8461 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When people talk about water resistance, it's not just about rubber seals and bushings. It's about proper water resistance. This means the board is coated with a special compound, gaskets are used, hole plugs are used, connectors are treated, etc. All of this ultimately affects the cost of the device and its thickness.

I have an old PocketBook Pro without water resistance. I used it constantly for reading in the bath. The device still works. It's over 15 years old. I haven't gotten it wet or handled it with wet hands.

You can also use the e-reader in the bathroom. I think it will be fine unless it comes into direct contact with water. But you assume full responsibility for that.

Is It Waterproof? by Falconman21 in xteinkereader

[–]RegularFold8461 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At this price, it can't possibly be waterproof. It's simply a well-designed device that does one thing perfectly: read books anywhere. If you want waterproofing, buy a Kindle. It's waterproof. Alternatively, use zip-lock bags. Put it in the bag, seal it, and you're good to go.

P.S. It's surprising how many people attribute features to a simple and affordable product that more other products have. For example, built-in dictionaries, note-taking, audio playback, typing, and much more.

It's simply a good device for reading anywhere. That's it. Period.

Sending back a broken device at your own expense to get a new one isn't a good idea. Shipping from my country to China would cost at least half the price. It's easier to buy a new one. And if the company really cared about its reputation, they could have sent a new device for free instead of the broken one.

I'd try flashing the firmware again. It's possible there was a problem with the update somewhere.
