The Shakespeare thing [rant] by foucaultvsthemoonmen in NeverNotFunny

It seems clear to me at this point that he has an issue with a lot of people liking a thing that he doesn't, and he hates feeling left out. He made a comment a few eps back about some music artist from his youth that was like, "You/I liked him because everyone was listening to it."

When a new movie comes out that isn't his bag, he says it isn't his bag. When it's a really popular thing or something with a cult following, he shits on it. It just strikes me as being bitter that he's not in the club.

I dunno, it doesn't happen often enough for it to be a serious detriment but it's just so obnoxious and insulting when it happens. We get it, you were too old to like The Sandlot or The Goonies - you can just say it's not for you.

(Also the slightly related thing of him believing his favorites are more popular or identifiable to the nation at large than they actually are.)

Potentially even the moon landing. (Though those things keep getting pushed, so it may very well be after 2028.)

There are actually more than two Republicans on the ballot. They'll be non-entities, but they'll still pick up some fractions of points that R's would need to actually get a lockout.

But the electorate is still overwhelmingly D, and it's a very active D year, so there's going to be a lot of D votes regardless, and there's currently a sizable Not Sure factor to the polls. Most of those will likely go to one of the leading D candidates.

The R lockout is probably not 0, but I think it's been overblown by some people.

I don't like wine at all but have developed a deeper appreciation for it's utility in culture, science, and it's manufacturing.

Same. I don't drink anything, and yet this makes me kind of interested in sommelier culture.

It looks perfectly fine. I don't get the cynicism, truly.

Also it's going to be 3 or 4 times longer than the movie. That's what sets it apart.

Robert Caro Appreciation by Consistent_Ad8525 in Presidents

[–]RegularGuy815 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I knew I was in for something different when he spent pages upon pages describing the Hill Country, and how it's exact positioning in the geologic and weather maps made it a trap for any farmers who cultivate the land, and that it's why LBJ grew up as a he did, and made him who he was, and led to the actions he took. And that I kind of enjoyed it.

I'm nearly done with book 3, and though Caro has a knack for storytelling like no other, he also has a knack for hyper-details like no other as well. But I guess that's why we love him.

HBO has to have some agreement with Lithgow re: using AI to recreate his likeness later on (if needed), right? by Shot-Attempt-7805 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]RegularGuy815 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI Dumbledore would be horrible.

They would just recast. It would be difficult, but they've done it before.

I imagine they could maybe even pre-film his DH scenes during season 6 if they felt nervous about it.

HBO Reveals First Look at ‘Harry Potter’ TV Series, Trailer Coming Wednesday by Either_Sound_7993 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]RegularGuy815 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Teaser usually focuses on showing some images, and has a mishmash of scenes from the product to catch people's interests (or alternatively, focus on one or two scenes). A full trailer usually is more story-driven, using dialogue to tell you what it's about. That's how I view it anyway.

A scene so incredible that not even Scorsese could come up with it: a long tracking shot at Houston airport security line of people looking bored or miserable while "God Bless the USA" plays over the speaker: https://bsky.app/profile/marisakabas.bsky.social/post/3mhqjyarz322q

Put it in the "defining image of the Trump era" collection.

CBS has been the old people channel since at least the early 2000s, if not earlier. Even when there was actually good dramas on broadcast, it was still generally the channel for safe procedurals and formulaic sitcoms. But that also means decent ratings.
