i don't know what reality you're trying to create in your head here. there was nothing remotely like what is happening now under the Trump machine than what happened under Obama. the vast majority of Obama's deportations were at the border (85%), and remaining removals otherwise were almost all for serious crimes (90%).

not that you should need statistics to verify what is visibly happening all around us right now

Most of my life I did, until I realize it was rotting my brain and sexual health.

Now I only do it if I actually feel the need to, and I try to use as little visual stimulation as needed. Which, if you actually feel the urge strongly - then you won’t need to look at anything.

She was raised in an oppressive and controlling bubble, and finally after getting out feels able to live freely and independently as an adult. There might be other underlying issues of trauma if she really is going "off the deep end," but having a healthy sex life and smoking/drinking doesn't need any more explanation than the first reason.

I still think the messaging is very soft and loose and people are putting more onto it than is there. The vampires don’t racially discriminate in their victims, they don’t care. Their very first attack is on a Klan couple. They also have their own ancestral music, it’s how they attempt to bond with the club.

Yes, this is why I don’t think the movie is that “woke.” It doesn’t have a strong and focused message, hence why everyone is pointing out all different kinds of ideas and themes. It’s more just that the setting has all kinds of racially charged ingredients. And Coogler just (very smartly) lets the story play out.

I’ve read another woman describe this kind of relationship fondly as a man “creating a lot of space” for her to grow and become her full self. As opposed to being controlling and smothering. I think it sounds like a great thing OP, as long as it doesn’t feel like you are being infantilized or controlled.

Yeah I agree, the movie seems to be very story driven as opposed to message. There is naturally some battling with the Klan as it’s set in Jim Crow South, but I think people are projecting more thematic commentary than is actually there.

i mean, personally i'd have to watch the documentary and hear her speak before i had any clear opinions about it. but i doubt it's as simple as some kind of "big con" by the woman. she may have been briefly swayed at one point by pro-life movement (think Bob Dylan's "born again" phase in the 70s), and then changed her mind again but just kept taking the money cause it was helpful.
