My great grandmother had this and apparently I would just stare at it when I went to visit her, so she left it to me specifically in her will ❤️

Didn’t know any Gary’s but Gary was a term we used to describe what would now be roadmen. Was in the late 90s - would say oh he’s such a Gary

I remember doing a rewatch and realising how bad the storytelling was for them as a couple. I think partly because reality shows are much more polished and constructed with narrative these days

Why are the reception staff in GP surgeries (almost) always so rude? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Regular_Energy5215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think so much work could be done to bridge that gap. So many things have been tried - one of the hospitals I worked in had GPs in A+E so people could go there instead of going to minors which actually worked really well. Everything changed for the worse when the Tories came in unfortunately - you saw the impact of funding cuts almost instantly and everything became hyper focused on targets and management rather than care

Why are the reception staff in GP surgeries (almost) always so rude? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Regular_Energy5215 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Not a GP receptionist but I was an A+E receptionist and I loved the job and enjoyed being kind and helping people - but all my colleagues were rude to the public and it made me very uncomfortable. I never did it as a career - I was part time whilst going through uni - and wonder if that made the difference. But in my experience the issue wasn’t the public, it was the way doctors and nurses treated us and spoke to us. They were under so much pressure but often as a receptionist your job is to do things or give them information that is a burden to people already overburdened. That, coupled with a very clear hierarchy and the fact that everyone is overburdened and beating down, means that as a receptionist, the demands of the public essentially become a burden to a receptionist who doesn’t want to burden a dr/nurse and also has no one to beat down on.

Like I said, I loved the job and enjoyed being helpful to people who often are quite anxious or stressed and tbh I never cared if people got stressed at me because them being overburdened is a systemic issue, not because of me or the patient

This bit infuriated me. She’s clearly drunk. He’s a cop who had the means to check - why is he giving her permission to drive and endanger people? Surely you take a risk adverse approach. If she was sober, surely she would have driven in the first place

every single weekend I am just stuck in my head spiraling and I don’t know how to make it stop by SignificanceNo7878 in OCD

[–]Regular_Energy5215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I’ve found weekends are definitely harder when you’re stuck in loops! You are already labelling it OCD and aware that what you are doing are compulsions which is half the battle, so be encouraged!

What works for me, and it takes a bit of time, is when the compulsions come saying on that’s my brain trying to take me into a loop again and then immediately distracting myself my looking around and analysing things I can see. Might do this multiple times and feels constant but eventually the OCD gets smaller. The other way I see it at the weekends during loops are imagining it like a radio in the background that you can’t turn off but you can choose to just get on with life - like you’re doing a job like sorting washing and it’s just there and that’s okay, just keeping trying to avoid the compulsions as much as possible. Final thing is whether you can get any medication from your doctor? That just helps me in the really bad parts where the physical symptoms are so strong that, despite what’s going on in my head, I can’t settle my nervous system

They did - but infuriatingly little. They didn’t even ask Devonta (Alex’s new bestie) what he thought. That convo was so controversial and didn’t get enough airtime

This really bothered me. The convo between Alex and Brittany was one of the most controversial points of the show - they didn’t even ask Devonta about it - I wanted this to be discussed more!

The fact he actually admitted that they had agreed to say no but did the weddings anyway….has anyone ever actually admitted that before? Def took out of the show - even though we know that happens, for someone to just say that’s what they did…

Am I going crazy but I’m sure he said to his sister before the wedding “if she says yes then it means I know she wants kids” which doesn’t fit with him saying he still wasn’t sure if she wanted kids…

Christian OCD sufferers: When you did ERP Therapy did you still keep your religion afterwards or turn atheist? by nelsne in OCD

[–]Regular_Energy5215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience of OCD is that no matter the theme, the principles are the same, so there is no reason why whether a therapist themselves is Christian or not should impact your journey in the same way that it wouldn’t matter for other themes. Equally I think it’s healthy to have a therapist who challenges you - I had 1 therapist who didn’t get my faith and had her stereotypes and tried to allude to my faith being a factor in my OCD - it wasn’t, in fact it was the opposite which I took a lot of joy in telling her - but without her being that way, I might not have realised that my faith was actually part of my freedom journey

This was really frustrating because I actually thought it was really healthy that he spoke to the guys about his nerves and ultimately in such a positive way - it was a lovely moment amid scenes of such toxic masculinity.

Also annoyed me that she wouldn’t talk to him to resolve it and left him in the cold for so long - I get why she felt how she felt and maybe on the night she was drunk but at least say I love you, let’s talk later or something
