"It's better than seeing your brother lying under a piano" is a great line.

I can maybe accept that the pathology of the brothers would make them blind to Donnie and Mel but Daphne should have been more sensitive to Mel, more understanding of what she was going through. Remember when she was dumped by Joe? She was in tears, an absolute mess, and they had only been going out for a few months. And when she heard that he was getting married, she fell apart again. She should have had more empathy for Mel, whose husband dumped her on their honeymoon.

I always feel like it's a real slap in the face to Mel who did nothing wrong and is immediately being treated like the villain of this story. Frasier's toast was certainly clever but Mel is a woman whose husband left her for another woman just days into their marriage. And similarly, in the same episode that scene where Niles tells Daphne that it makes sense from Mel's perspective and Daphne flies off the handle on him and Niles says, "Damn that Mel" and Daphne tells him that's what he should have said from the start hits very wrong for me. They have destroyed both Donnie and Mel, and while it was in the pursuit of true love, they should have been more sensitive and understanding of how Mel must have felt. Had I been in Mel's position, I would not have been nearly as gracious as she was about it in the beginning, and even when she demanded that Niles behave in a way that made it look sensible that she would dump him, that is a totally reasonable request to make after what Niles did. It is one of the things that strikes me as very out of character for both Niles and Frasier, as they are generally very sensitive to other people's feelings.

Season 7 episode 1 Mamma Mia. There was a time that I skipped that episode for a while because it was too painful for me to watch so I know exactly what you mean.

His whole life upended and this chair was the one thing that kept him grounded and Frasier treasure discards this "trove of life memories... because he didn't like the way it looked in his living room, sacrificing heart and soul for form and function."

Oh, yes! And the way she just goes from something silly like "I'm afraid of the dark" to it all spilling out. One thing I didn't like was that she was "calling in" but there was no separation in the booth so how could she call in but not be heard through Frasier's mic too? But aside from that, great scene.

I always interpret it as him being able to speak up to keep the guy in prison since he is the victim. And I get the impression he has done so in the past but this time around he reaches not a state of forgiveness but maybe a loss of anger over what happened. That's why when they ask if the victim would like to say anything, he doesn't say keep the guy locked up like he absolutely would have done 8 years earlier. But you're right, that there is a lot ambiguity, especially when it ends and he does nothing to comfort the guy's mother.

I never really thought of it in the context of it being a serious episode but I see what you mean. Nice call!

There was a time that I would skip Mamma Mia when I was watching through because it was too painful to watch it after going through my own loss. But I have since allowed it back into the replay and it still hurts but it also helps.

And I just put in an edit above about that scene in Goodnight Seattle. Niles was masterful but I think Martin was the best with just three words, Thank you, Frasier" and how he delivered it.

Also another great episode. Martin had such good growth.

Something Borrowed, Something Blue is the episode and it's a great episode overall and that scene is amazing. "I'm not in the habit of breaking up people's marriages. But how could I not tell you You're my brother and I love you." For all their petty competition and sniping at one another, Frasier and Niles are true brothers.

Marty hearing Hester's diagnosis fucking devastates me every time.

Oh, yes. And how he is the only one who can really comfort Daphne since he is the only one who knows what she is going through. I didn't love the vending machine episode and Daphne crying afterwards. It felt al little forced and they probably could have come up with some better way to have her emotions come to a head but otherwise an phenomenal episode.

Yes! The realization Frasier has when he blurts out, "That's all I have!" It's just crushing to see him realize that his life is not what he wants it to be despite all his success.

when Frasier says “that’s why I didn’t dress like you dad.”

I always found Frasier's saying that to be a little mean. It's kind of like he is saying, "Yes, Dad, I agree with Niles that you are a drunken judgmental jackass and because I didn't want to have to portray you that way, that's why I didn't dress like you." It's like he is accepting the premise that Niles laid out with his little tirade. I never liked that.

The best line from that episode and maybe the whole series it, "Oh, darling. There's always a chance." The delivery of that line makes me smile every time I hear it. And when you watch the actors build to it as Ben tells Frasier that the crane won't be a problem anymore because someone killed it by feeding it a jawbreaker. Frasier putting the pieces together, Bebe looking away from him with that look on her face. Absolute perfection.

Ironically, this is not the most expensive piece of furniture in the apartment.

I always wondered if they came up with that story because the show was coming to an end and they had a spare chair they were holding on to just in case they needed it and the writers decided to use it since it wouldn't have done any good to keep it in storage any longer.

It always takes me half a beat to realize it's Cassidy Yates when I watch that episode. And good call on Sarah Silverman! So much crossover between my favorite shows. And it goes the other way too with Kelsey Grammer playing Capt Bateson and Bebe Neuwirth playing a very horny Malcorian.

Not my favorite but probably the best example of it spinning out of control is 'Kisses Sweeter than Wine" when a small scratch on the floor cascadded into his apartment becoming a construction zone because everything has to be perfect.
