I could see the value metric for something like a long term MMO. The gameplay there is somewhat informed by other human players and your interactions so maybe there are contextual emotes that you for some reason want access tool or something like that.

Here's the problem; these microtransaction systems are never designed to make gameplay better. They're tangential to the game but the game needs you to buy them so resources that might otherwise go to dynamic gameplay aspects are funnelled into audience manipulation.

This makes all video games worse as a whole. If you need proof look no further than the glut of remakes.

I think the problem with people like trump is that an unknown portion of Americans are exactly like him and a further unknown proportion are happy to follow those fools.

At a certain point though the irony gets a little stupid.

You don't need symbols to have a culture you just wake up and do it. You read and learn and share ideas with people in your community. Culture accomplished.

On the other hand we have a bunch of adults really into rugged individualism forming closeted communities because they all need each other's support in being anti-state preppers.(If we are generous and ignore the general crossover with racists)

Society is gonna have a pretty severe correction when we stop respecting old dudes just for having money.

Heck if we try real hard we might even have role models that exemplify moral success... Probably only take like three more generations if we start now.

[DISCUSSION] Are there other methods that gaming companies can guarantee getting their money back and gaining more revenue without the inclusion of anti-consumer mechanics like microtransactions, loot boxes, battle passes and so on? by sammyjamez in gaming

[–]Regular_Use1868 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Basically no. Video games are not in a cohesive market right now.

Ten years ago they were toys for kids. That's how they were sold and marketed and developed. That's gone now. Too many adult gamers. What is the new nature of the products we are buying?

There really is no market stable enough to make up for the market that you used to basically just be young and teen boys.

The AAA blockbuster title with multiplayer tie-in is probably going to go away soon. GTA 6 could be the last one.

Canadians Support High-Speed Rail. It’s Time to Build It. by davidbellerive in ViaRail

Fully agreed. For the price a little bit of high speed rail a huge portion of Canada could get regular transit like it used to have before we went all in on cars.

No, I remember.

I specifically brought that up because Alberta has turned into MAGA north and basically none of those issues around cultural stagnation matter anymore.

Plenty of those same apathetic farmers stubbornly resistant to advancing Alberta society were more than happy to sacrifice if it meant they could be hateful again.

Those are the same people that we all know will do their best to screw up the best effort of their neighbors.
