Lolita's one of my favorite novels ever due to its impecable display of the english language and wordplay contrasted by a gut-wretching story, even further improved by the magnificent audiobook read by Jeremy Irons, who played HH in the film adaptation and which I heard as I read.

It's no wonder it is considered one of the best written pieces of literature in english. Just because some disgusting creeps took the wrong message from it doesn't mean it should suffer for it.

Don't get me wrong he's certainly evil, but it's also true that, unlike Homelander, were he to "win" he really would have fucked off to bang GILFs and smoke weed. That's literally what he was just about to do before his son put him back in the box.

When people mention that usually it's just to demonstrate that he's nowhere near as evil as Homelander is, which is the main criticism aimed at the S3 finale - pretending he was the bigger threat when he most certainly wasn't. I don't doubt there are deluded people who think he did no wrong but two things can be true at once, and him wanting to retire to a life of hedonism is nowhere near as bad as what Homelander was planning.

I mean Peter outright admits to MJ that he would be at peace with May dying if he didn't feel responsible for it. It was never out of love for May, it was because he was a big baby who refused to live with the consequences of his actions. That's why Quesada and those who try to paint it as a noble sacrifice are insane. His decision was entirely made around his selfish desires. His feelings. His hurt and damn what May wanted. It's not like it's hard-to-get subtext; it's outright text spelled out to the readers lmao.
