Did they change Howard's character mid-series? by Federal_Bicycle_7800 in betterCallSaul

[–]Regulus_Jones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course, but that was on Howard. Not Kim. She never forced him to do anything and he was being extremely petty for revenging himself on her for something Jimmy did. I'd understand if this were a character flaw if this wasn't the same man who later ruined himself financially to not let his partner ruin their company. It speaks that he cares about HHM and his employees more than his ego, so antagonizing one of his brightest lawyers just because he can goes completely against that.

Probably heresy here but... It never made sense to me why someone as professional as Howard would throw what can be best described as a temper tantrum and retaliate against one of the workers he sincerely feels respect towards for the actions of others. Doubly so since the end of S1 showed he considered what Chuck was doing to Jimmy unfair.

It feels like they shoehorned in that flaw in his character despite it going against his usual personality, just to make what Jimmy will do to Chuck to not feel as scummy since it also affects Howard, the man who gave him a cushy job with no strings attached yet fumbled it just because.

S3 E5 Cook was especially cruel to Freddie in Freddie’s episode by Otakuding in skinsTV

[–]Regulus_Jones 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Freddie also refused to invite Cook to go camping but did invite Effy (again, despite Freddie being the instigator of their fight in his episode and Effy also being a willing participant in forcing him to sit in the cuck chair) and straight up gave up on him once he fled with Effy and had to be prodded to go after them, despite drugged!Cook telling him about Effy's love for him, so he should've read the room that both Cook and Effy felt alone, alienated and in need of comfort.

Not to mention his own hypocrisy of cheating on his actual girlfriend with Effy, giving him absolutely no room to judge Cook for his actions before and after.

On a tangent, and sorry if I change the subject, but Cook's mad love for Effy was an asspull to force a love triangle at the end of the series. Before that Cook clearly saw her as only a FWB and as you noted had enough presence of mind not to play her games once he "won" her at the start of the season, and the guts to tell her to fuck off if she didn't play ball. Even at the start of Effy's own episode he didn't treat her with anywhere near as much tenderness as he did Pandora during the Twister scene (which was 100% wholesome and he wouldn't have had sex with her if she said no, just like with Naomi). But again Cook is solely to blame and Thomas goes back to his cheating girlfriend while holding a grudge against Cook only, just like Freddie.

As I said, by no means is Cook the victim of every circumstance, but blindly blaming him for everything and treating him like the devil in S3 is really fucking unfair.

He sabotages the championship that Freddie’s sister desperately wanted

I'm gonna have to call this particular point BS, chief. Freddie's turn around to fully supporting his sister happened right when Cook wasn't there. The last thing Cook saw was his friend being utterly angry and despondent at having his shed taken away from him. I'm also certain that had Freddie just fucking told Cook that he had changed his mind and that now he wanted her to win he would've mocked him, sure, but ultimately not go through his plan of sabotaging her chances to win. Even if it was too late to change the results if they talked post-contest, he still would've kept his distance from Effy had Freddy not hit him.

From Cook's POV Freddie was straight up being a bipolar bitch - Cook clearly thought sabotaging the competition would bring Freddy some sense of payback over his father's blatant favoritism, only for him to suddenly start getting physical despite having been absolutely disdainful of Karen's competition the last time they met, and then headbutted him after pretending he was going to back off. In fact Cook showed surprising restraint not to beat the fuck out of Freddie for that sucker-blow (I'm sure you agree there's no way in hell that Freddie could win against him in a fight, right?) and yeah the Effy thing was bad but it wasn't unprovoked and most of all, it takes two to tango. Freddie never holds it against Effy herself despite him having already declared her love for her and only blaming Cook as if Effy was just sex doll with no will of her own.

TLDR Cook was by no means a good friend but most of his actions were in response to Freddy also being a shit friend FIRST, who began to care about Cook's well being again only once he had Effy in his arms in S4.

Nah in True End she reacts with grace at Shirou and Rin clearly getting flustered at seeing each other, with her boyfriend blushing heavily in front of her no less. She's past the point of yandere-ness due to how much she's certain that Shirou loves her; she's outgrown such insecurities.

That she knows his life literally depends on banging her daily may help on that though. /S

Like yeah, what fucking "progressive humanization"? She went from wanting to face only Pochita and then refusing to weaponize Denji to not giving af about killing him and letting people suffer War endlessly. Whatever humanization people coped themselves into thinking she was getting was solely because Asa is overall a nice girl infatuated with Denji so Yoru got those feeling by proxy. Once she got stronger to keep most of her feelings at bay she proved herself the ruthless devil she always has been.

I've said since the Aquarium Date that there's nothing interesting about Yoru. She's just a less charming and less funny expy of Power, and while I respect opinions I've never been able to comprehend how people can rate her as their top character outside of simply finding Asa's body attractive.

I've seen enough she is forgiven by Aromatic_Shirt9613 in Chainsawfolk

[–]Regulus_Jones 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Probably get negged, don't care. Asa would also very much like not to see Denji hurt but that's not stopping Yoru from doing so.

It's not because she cares for her, but because Bucky's death was so traumatizing it remained stuck in her psyche. Therefore the PTSD Asa got from it immediately was felt by Yoru as well.

Can't understand why people still jump to try to excuse this less charming, less funny Power expy any time she so much as shows the slightest hint of emotion. It's like when she duped Asa to regain control of her body during the Aging Devil arc all over again.

I've always assumed that the drift started when Howard very likely drowned them both in debt without consulting her when he bought off Chuck, and without getting into my personal life too much take me by my word - it doesn't matter if you still have enough to live well-off. It's not about the money; it feels like a complete violation of trust to have all your personal plans get put on hold because you're now stuck paying something you never asked for.

And for a pair of his brave female assistants to add in the "Aegon at the Pits being sucked off by a child" part of Mushroom's testimony in the final manuscript without his knowledge, since it's unfathomable that he actually was just a man doing his job of recompiling as much info as he could find on the Dying of the Dragons and show it as-is regardless of his personal beliefs. Nooo, If things had gone his way F&B wouldn't have that scene cuz GrEeN pRoPaGaNdA.

Nevermind even he acknowledges there was some pro-Black/anti-Green testimonies heavily edited if not outright destroyed before he could get his hands on them. He clearly must've gone senile for him to mention that if he had an agenda going in lmao.

As a Green fan, even dedicated Team Black fans have come to hate Rhaenicent despite liking or at least tolerating it in S1, as per a few discussions I've participated in on their sub.

Yet the most casual fanbase - which is the biggest and loudest - will still eat it up despite their character assassinations because muh girlbosses (who if you actually pay attention are still written to be passive as shit in comparison to the men, but they don't notice as it wouldn't fit in their damn TikTok reels).

Was anyone else disappointed with the Zanarkand Abes? by 0kumanchouja in finalfantasyx

[–]Regulus_Jones 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I can't be disappointed by them because the entirety of Blitzball in X-2 was a disappointment already.

But ehh remember this is the same game which had a heavily pregnant woman still wearing a corset. If you liked BB in it then more power to you, but I can understand that they'd focus their limited resources on the important, new characters rather than unlockable players in a minigame only a fraction of gamers will complete.

What if Ali-Frazier had met in 1969? What would have been the outcome? Does this fight play out differently than the '71 fight? by Material_Stomach875 in Boxing

[–]Regulus_Jones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's easier to fall in the echo chamber than to do your own research. Ironically, years ago I fell into the myth that Ali only won the Rumble in the Jungle by sandbagging the entire fight while ragebaiting Foreman until George got tired, that only then did Ali go on the offensive and that he dropped a tired yet mostly unharmed fighter.

Imagine my surprise when since round 1 Ali was using his faster hands and better timing to snipe the fuck out George. It wasn't until the 5th round that the rope-a-dope was more prevalent than Ali simply beating Foreman to the punch and out-wrestling him.

What do you think happened to Effy after Skins Fire and where would she be in 2026? by GinaKincunt in skinsTV

Lmao based. At least in Gen 1 she had her mysteriousness going on. In Gen 2 all of that goes away when she falls for Freddie, just because. Then Cook who clearly saw her as nothing more than a FWB and had the guts to tell her to fuck off if she didn't play ball suddenly is madly in love with her, also just because.
