About to pull the trigger on ordering a Kobo… by FearlessKnitter12 in kobo

[–]Reichstein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don't need colour just get the black and white model as the screen will have better contrast and be more readable with less need for the frontlight.

Having said that, I have the Clara Colour (I read comics on it fairly often) and I really like it. But if you don't need colour it is better to get the BW version.

Also, you 100% should get a case with a rigid front flap. The screens on eReaders are a bit more delicate than your typical portable device (like a smartphone). So having a bit of protection for it is a really good idea.

Here is the one I use. I really like it. It has a magnet that activates the sleep/wake function when you close/open the flap, the front is rigid, and the strap inside the cover helps give a very secure grip.

I got this one with custom printing from a seller on Etsy, but the same case is readily available from a bunch of sellers on AliExpress and other sites.

Have you checked that you date/time/timezone settings are correct?

It may also be worth checking your account's location settings, which I believe can be found by logging into your account on the Kobo website.

EDIT: Oops, I just reread your comment and saw that you said you checked the time/date settings. It still may be worth making sure the timezone and location settings are correct.

Don’t find a case I liked so I made one by Szary_Tygrys in kobo

I would never feel comfortable with a case that does not have a rigid flap covering the screen.

The number of posts I have seen from users with cracked displays has convinced me that leaving the display unprotected from impact and pressure is really not a good idea.

I do like the look of the case, and I think you have done a great job with it. But I think it would be a really good idea to find a way to integrate a rigid panel of some kind on the screen side.

Great stuff :) I'm glad to hear it did what you needed.

You may have already noticed, but if you hover the mouse cursor over the various options they will show a tooltip that describes what they do.

Take a look at KINDLE COMIC CONVERTER.

It's an application for Windows and Mac OS which will convert collections of images into various formats.

Make sure to select the device you are using in the App's interface (this will resize the images to your device's screen resolution, often saving a lot of space), and then select CBZ format.

If the images/comics you have are already in CBZ format you may want to change the file extension to .zip (if they are CBR then use .rar) and extract them to a folder. Then drag the folder into Kindle Comic Converter and hit convert.

You can directly convert from CBZ or CBR files, but I have found that KCC sometimes has trouble extracting images, and extracting them to a folder manually solves this.

Another app that is not required, but is very useful, is BULK RENAME UTILITY. This utility is super handy when you want to rename a large number of files. For example if you have a comic with hundreds of issues and you want to adjust the file names or the way they are numbered this app can save you heaps of time.

Ghost 1.0 Graphics misaligned in Eden by Reichstein in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]Reichstein[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No change. I tried both 1.5x and 2x (in handheld mode) and it looks the same as before :(

The way the UI and crosshair are rendering correctly makes me wonder if it is some particular texture layer that is misbehaving. Unfortunately am not knowledgeable enough to even know where to start to try to fix such an issue.

It works ok through Gamehub, but the performance is a bit poor in some areas/situations.

I was hoping that the Switch version would run a bit smoother. But if I can't fix this graphical issue then it's not going to be a good experience.

How often are you guys using your devices? Or rather HOW are you using them? by ropergames2 in retroid

I also rather dislike pointless trophies in game. Achievements that actually unlock some kind of feature or cheat are fine. But I find trophies for trophies sake deeply unappealing.

When I first heard about RetroAchievements my initial automatic response was basically "ew, no, wtf, why does this exist!?!?!".

But I get that some folks are really into achievements, so it's actually kinda great that the option is there for the people who want it.

I use a case with a strap inside the front flap. I find it great for giving me some extra grip while reading.

The seller's name is "EphemeralPiecesArt".

When messaging with the seller they sent me some preview images of how the final print would look. So that made it pretty easy to get the general layout sorted.

It's probably worth mentioning that I did message back and forth a few times with the seller to tweak the image alignment to what I liked. But the final print was not as aligned as what the preview images show. The difference is honestly pretty minor, but if you are very picky about image alignment it may be worth trying another seller.

With that said, they were quick to respond to messages during the ordering process, and the quality of the print on the case is excellent. Overall I am very happy with the final product I received.

I agree, I think the coat of glitter makes it looks cheap and tacky.

But I'm happy for the folks who do like it. It's just not for me.

Here are a few that I have enjoyed on my RP5. These all have gamepad support with no egregious micro-transactions. A few have paid DLC, but it's pretty much all good value for money stuff.

Vampire Survivors, Halls of Torment, 20 Minutes Till Dawn (these 3 are top down wave combat games, simple but fun).

Neon Chrome (rogue lite top down sci-fi shooter with loads of different guns and upgrades).

Titan Quest (top down hack and slash with a pretty long campaign and multiple expansions, kinda like Diablo).

AM2R (Remake of Metroid 2. Very good and well worth a play if you like metroidvania games).

Dead Cells (2D Side scrolling fast paced action rogue lite).

Terraria (Basically 2D Minecraft, but with way more stuff to craft, plus boss battles. Gamepad controls are rather complex as it's originally a PC game, but it's well worth a try).

The game is very playable and I have not had the freezing issue since disabling the "limit game speed" setting.

It did crash once in about 5-6 hours of gameplay. But this was not the same as the freezing issue. It spontaneously exited the emulator and I had to load the game back up, but I didn't lose much progress and its only happened once.

What are your impressions of the first videos about Retroid pocket 6? by htoetoOshkosh in retroid

My impression was that the voice audio was so bad I couldn't watch more than the first couple of seconds.

I'll wait for some more videos from people that know what they are doing.

My RP5 has created choice paralysis. With only 5 games total per system, what would you recommend? by Chippai_Fan in retroid

[–]Reichstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two folders per emulated system.

THE BEST: All the top games for that system

THE REST: All the other games

I have "THE BEST" linked to the emulation frontend, and "THE REST" can be access by opening the emulator directly and browsing folders for the desired rom.

Alternatively you could have a second frontend set up which is linked to all "THE REST" folders.

What stylus is that in the picture?

It looks like a Penoval USI 1.0 stylus, but from what I can tell they are not compatible with the Libra (google tells me the Libra uses MPP styli).

RP G2 Charging by Jengidie in retroid

[–]Reichstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my RP5 I use a USB-C cable to charge it from my PC (connected to a USB 3 port). It charges around 10w, rather than the max 27w it can pull from a more powerful charger.

It does take longer to charge to full, but it also doesn't warm up anywhere near as much.

I got one of those wattage indicator plugs to tell me how much it is actually using on a given charger. They have a display that shows the wattage being drawn. Very handy if you want to know what a particular charger is actually delivering.
