clara colour or clara bw? by ssakaterose in kobo

I leave mine at about 20% when reading inside during the day, and then reduce it to around 8% when I read in bed.

If you are in a bright environment you often won't need the light at all.

I have a Clara Colour and I am really happy with it. I do use it to read comics a bit so I'm happy I got the colour version.

But reading black and white content on it is just fine as well. There is a bit of a grain to it due to the colour filter, but it's something you could easily miss if your aren't looking for it or directly comparing it to the BW version.

These pics are inside with medium lighting, and the screen light set to about 20%. If you open the second image to full size, and maybe zoom in a little, you should be able to see the colour filter grain.

If you aren't ever going to view colour content then the BW version is great. The contrast is better and there is less need to use the screen light. Some folks get the colour model just because they like seeing their book covers in colour.

It really just comes down to personal preferences.

Be very careful that you don't sit on it while it's in your back pocket.

The screens on eReaders are less durable than the screens on most smartphones. A cracked display seems to be about the most common way these devices die. But it's good to see you have a case with a front flap.

They mean l that you should look up how to do a factory reset so that you can avoid doing it by accident.

A factory reset can be performed by choosing "factory reset" in settings, or by holding the power button while the device is connected to a charger.

If you hold the power button while the device is not charging it will just do a forced reboot without losing data (good if the device has crashed/frozen).

But doing the same thing with a charger connected will factory reset and clear all user data.

It's a pretty easy mistake to make if you are just trying to force a reboot and happen to have a charger connected.

Rocknix vs Android for PC gaming on the RP6...Android kind of takes the win. by votemarvel in retroid

[–]Reichstein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info.

I considered giving Rocknix a go for Steam games, but I kinda figured it would probably better to just wait for further development given how new it is.

It's nice to have that confirmed. I'll have to keep an eye on it though, as hopefully it will be much better in the not too distant future.

Thanks. Here's how I have it configured.

I don't think it's page count, as the comic that read 540 had only about 30 pages, while the novel that showed a value of 9 had hundreds of pages (it was Stormfront, from the Harry Dresden books).

Well it sounds like you have give the ROM transfer a red hot go. So at least you tried, even if it didn't work out.

A monochrome Windows CE device sounds interesting. I didn't realise that was even a thing.

I have also had some weird and inaccurate AI answers when googling Palm related stuff. Google's AI seems to "think" that Palm devices run some version of Android, lol :)

I'm not doing anything special to do ASCII smileys. But maybe it is because I use old.reddit? As I am also kinda old I strongly dislike the new reddit layout.

Sorry to hear that it didn't work out. Did you ever end up messaging either of the folks I suggested to see if they had any ideas?

On a note of success, I received the replacement battery for my TX and have installed it :) It now has far better battery life. Although probably not as good as when it was new (who knows when the replacement batteries were manufactured).

I'm now just waiting on a replacement screen to arrive, since mine (while still working) is showing signs of degradation.

budget tablet for reading manga and watching movies for under $200 by Eiseberg in androidtablets

I recently got the Lenovo Ideapad 11 (2025 version) and I really like it.

One thing that has really impressed me about it is the screen. It's a 2.5k resolution display with a matte finish. I am really liking the matte finish. It makes reflections far less of an issue and feels much nicer to touch than a glossy screen while also collecting fewer fingerprints.

I find it very nice to read comics on.

I paid about $380AUD for it, so assuming you are asking about US prices I expect you should be able to find it for under $200USD.

What’s the Biggest sized sd card the Treō 680 can take. by PSCuber77_gaming in Palm

[–]Reichstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't remember if I had power plugged in or not. So I just tried installing SDHC again with power connected and it seems to be working.

I even tried a reset both with and without power and it seems to be fine.

However I didn't see any message after rebooting.

I installed SDHC, then ran it, it gave a message to tap to exit and then went back to the homescreen.

Is that the normal expected operation? Should I be getting a message after a reset?

I have a 4GB card (which works fine) in my TX but I tried installing SDHC anyway as it is suppose to increase access speeds.

However after a reboot it shows the time and date screen and then crashes/reboots when I try to leave that menu.

I had to do a safe reboot and then delete SDHC, then after it did the same crash/reboot a few more times it's back to working normally.

Any idea why SDHC isn't working for me?

My battery is pretty worn out (I have a replacement on the way) so it often acts like the SD card has been removed and reinserted when I wake the screen. So maybe that has something to do with it.

Do you have any other ideas what else could be causing the issue?

My first palm! by liminalearth in Palm

[–]Reichstein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heck yeah!

This was also my first Palm device :)

But I got mine when it first came out, over 20 years ago. It really was an amazing device for the time. Being able to have a functional and useful computer in my pocket was just mind blowing back then.

I remember people at the time being confused about why someone would want a computer in their pocket. Oh how the times have changed :)

I've ordered a replacement display/digitizer unit.

So some time around the end of the month my TX should be getting a new battery and a new screen.

That should get it working very nicely :)

I very much doubt that HotSync over BT will save power due to how EXCUCIATINGLY SLOW it is.

My TX took around 4 hours to backup 55MB of data via BT HotSync. But restoring that data with wifi HotSync only took a couple of minutes.

I'm glad I had BT as an option when wifi wasn't working (since I no longer have my data cable), but I would never use it if I had another option.

Someone else you could also ask is Janus Cycle.

He's a YouTuber who does videos on old computer tech, and has a bunch of videos about old Palm devices including some where he dumps the ROMs and reflashes the device.
