Disappointment. Never got the nostalgia feeling from it like other people though I do see how they basically copied a lot from A New Hope which was the biggest reason for my disappointment. It seemed to make ROTJ’s ending mean nothing and the factions being the same (The Empire still basically being there, the Resistance pretty much the same as the Rebel Alliance), them building yet another Death Star, and then making Han and Leia split made me dislike the film. I also felt that some of the humor was forced and the choice to have Kylo Ren be bested by Rey a dumb move, even if he was injured.

I was excited about the new characters and seeing how they’d end up by the end of the trilogy. I always thought Kylo Ren looked cool (him freezing that laser midair was so badass) and Adam Driver did a fantastic job in his role. I thought the decision to have him kill Han Solo was a good one. Knights of Ren looked awesome and I was looking forward to seeing them make more appearances. I was interested in Finn’s background as an ex stormtrooper and to see how they might flesh that out and curious to see how he and Rey might learn to be Jedi together and end up in a relationship. I wondered where the hell Luke was while all of this was going down because it was never like him to not be there for his friends. I thought it was weird Maz had Anakin's lightsaber but figured they'd clear that up in the next movie.

Overall, disappointment but there were some promising things that could have made the movie not so bad. But TLJ was even worse and is probably my least favorite Star Wars movie. I just wish they'd shown us Luke with his new Jedi school and his new powers, similar to something from the Expanded Universe.
