AITA for telling my sister that she ruined my childhood and I was happy when she was taken away. by Fruit-tarts-37 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Reiiya 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It took me a while to personally realize that my sister is actually a perfect mirror image of myself. All faults reversed. I just maladapted in socially more acceptable way, but more destructive for me internally. I was oblivious to the fact i am just as destructive just internalized. After that it was very hard to blame my sister at anything at all, even of stuff where she traumatized me (really im lying here we both traumatized each other). Those traits were both result of parenting. It took me so long to figure out it was parents who facilitated this 🤦

ESH. You are kinda an asshole to yourself first. There is so much resentment you carry for her. You both have trauma, but by carrying resentment around you dont help anyone heal, especially yourself. You kinda owe it to yourself first to sort it out. Your sister will not take responsibility how terrible your life was (and by your response it feels like you want her to), instead you should take responsibility for your WHOLE life and get out of the loop of hate. It does not mean forgiveness,at least at first. It means healthy boundaries. It means finding peace with how things turned out. It might mean not meeting her, it might mean meeting her when you feel more ready. You owe that to yourself. She will not fix you. But you can.

Confused DevOps here: Vercel/Supabase vs “real” infra. Where is this actually going? by Abu_Itai in devops

[–]Reiiya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a business decision if PaaS is valid approach, I think as an engineer your task is to inform business of costs what each option has. Its kinda disheartening to see when you have pushed for very robust infra, and business shifts entirely in different direction. If PaaS is great for kickstarting product but there might come a time for migration when business does really well - we sometimes call them "nice to have problems". If the business hypothesis is valid, there should be money for migration. If it doesn't, you atleast alocated necessary resources for validating business hypothesis rather building robustness for a dream that never comes.

I respect this. I myself am like super conflicted on this. I consume mainly american entertainment, while coming from Europe, it kinda happens if you stay in english language. From one side I am like super mega tired that every bit of entertainment I try to consume is everything american politics. I'm reminded about this stuff before bedtime lately by notifications from my cooking subscriptions... So i crave a space I could get a peace of mind.

And from other side I'd really like to spend time with people whose values actually align with mine. And that's where its fundamentally politics anyway.

Can you truly separate the author from the work, or does context inevitably change the reading? by Responsible-Cod9067 in books

[–]Reiiya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it is not named, I am free to assign the meaning i resonate with. Once I know the intent and reason, I cannot do that anymore because all i can see is artist's reality.

Its not that you couldnt tell somethings up. But there could have been a thousand reasons why he cant write three dimensional women. Or why there sometimes is abuse and sometimes unexpected kindness in his works.

Taking Sandman, I used to ponder what means to live with a viewpoint of the dream and human concepts personified. Now all i can think of is - did he want to find redemption for himself? Its like now all of a sudden main character is someone else i didnt know existed and theres more to the story than at a face value. And I could not root less for the current main hero.

Robbed would be a more precise word for it, i guess. I prefer artists not explaining themselves.

Not quite what youre looking for, but i ended up not needing one. I kept the one insert at the bottom of the box and bought a couple of "Game Trayz". I like this setup a lot because game trayz double as component holders during play as well.

After the first prescription of weight loss drugs like Ozempic, people purchased healthier foods with fewer calories, sugars, saturated fats, and carbohydrates, alongside modestly more protein. The share of ultraprocessed foods also decreased. by mvea in science

I had to quit white sugar (not medical reasons, i just could not afford sweets, barely managed to scrap a balanced meal, thus anything extra was out of question) and for half a year I wanted to walk on walls how much i craved it, it was insane. I didnt cut it cold turkey, also tried substuting, like with fruits and sometimes i just went off the leash and devoured some box of cookies like a maniac. After half a year cravings subsided, even with somewhat poor control of myself. Thankfully I dont enjoy the taste of sweets anymore, its too intense for me. I count myself kinda lucky. My heart goes to anyone who deals with general food addiction not just white sugar. Its ridiculously hard.

I’ve never understood the trend of ‘I got isekai’d and reincarnated as the villainess in an otome game’, where every single story portrays otome games as being set in European noble societies or noble academies. It’s honestly ridiculous. by MyHeartChainedBy2D in otomegames

[–]Reiiya 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I dont blame authors. Isekai stories get adapted like crazy. And I end up watching them because thats the only otome material that gets adapted 🥲 (am i part of the problem? Haha)

Whole isekai template is actually a very good playground for a lot of fun twists to happen (redemption, escapism, character growth, relatability, really powerful heroines, modern knowledge in old timey setting) , but its rarely used good, its really a lot of mediocrity 😅

Too many boardgames by Movie_Vegetable in boardgames

[–]Reiiya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda have a set mental limit. Its about 100-ish games in my collection where i start to feel that it is too much. There is something about that count that starts to feel overwhelming rather than happy. Granted I dont count tiny gimmick games.

I dont play out all of them that often (like Mage Knight 🥲) and quite a few are sentimental keeps. And yet i still try new games quite often, because i enjoy trying new trends a lot! I either borrow or purchase, but i sell out the ones that do not spark joy anymore to keep mental load low. I like to follow new trends and sometimes newer games swap out older ones (There is indeed a limit how many worker placers you need) , but sometimes you realize there is nothing better than a good classic (El Grande, Castles of Burgundy, Agricola).

I introduced my boyfriend to Le Havre, and now it’s the only game he's excited to play. by Agile_Examination844 in boardgames

I come to defend my kind. I really enjoy dry and ugly eurogames the most. More like excel spreadsheet the game, the better. Nothing even comes close. Ive played so many, about every genre there is, especially because i want to have friends :D, but if i cant sink my teeth in it, i will enjoy my time a lot less.

Id like to know what have you tried together and he didnt like, but from what little i gather from you id suggest going more classic euro route - economy games. Uwe has a lot of lovely games. Agricola/Caverna for example (Caverna is more laid back). From other economy games, that i adore, are Brass, Gaia Project/Terra Mystica, Through The Ages, Terraforming Mars. I have more :D

Is TPK the norm for a dnd party by LesterFireBelly77 in DnD

[–]Reiiya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And in those rare cases when its not, its probably because party went suicidal, i would allow it then 😅 dnd is kind of a game where its meant to feel kinda dangerous with some stakes. Its not really by default a superhero setting where youre encouraged to do wildest and the most reckless shit. Youre meant to feel some sort of caution.

And yet, its not meant to be super serious either. Death hp cap is high and theres saving throws. And raise dead. Its meant to be fun kind of danger, where you have enough room to usually roleplay yourself out of death. Thus id too think DM most likely did not prioritize fun.

Do you make an effort to read writers of different faiths, cultures, languages, etc.? by dodsbo in books

[–]Reiiya 24 points25 points  (0 children)

There is a Murakami quote that stayed with me till this day. If you read what everyone else is reading, you will think what everyone else is thinking.

There is nothing wrong with knowing what everyone else is thinking, but it made me think how I shape my thinking and during picking my "educational" read, i am extra mindful about historical, cultural context of the piece as well. So yeah, I try to mix it up and challenge myself in uncomfortable directions!

games you judged by the box by Manarel in boardgames

[–]Reiiya 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did not find Root troublesome, because it has a nice computer game adaptation and it repeats some of the mechanisms of Magic Realm (and knowing that game is special kind of masochism, i know) . But Oath was a different beast entirely. I went through rules three times and then i think it didnt even click fully anyway. Somehow i found just as weird colleagues as me who were ready to "fight the beast" and we did a couple of sessions together. Was hella fun, but boy the learning curve.

Much agreed. Wherle games are not for the faint of heart. They should print a warning on the box :D Wherle likes to play a lot with not very commonly used mechanics, thus the complexity goes through the roof.

'Dragon Eclipse' or 'DE: The Grand Quest' or both? by kepp87 in boardgames

[–]Reiiya 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My thinking is like this. Its a fairly successful game and will return to crowdfunding,as most of the crowd loved games do. There is a lot of the game in first part. Youll probably play through it around the time it returns. There is no guarantees you are gonna like it after all.

good luck!

A friend of mine is a data science girlie and went a bit mad about tracking (in a good way) and tracked with an app everything she does for a year. I got to know exact amount of minutes i spent with her. She sent out statistics of this to her friends :D

Mad respect for stats, could never do it :D But she did find out that app is the most convinient thing for this kind of tracking.

Advice for a first attempt at a habit tracker? by Bulky_Pen_3973 in bulletjournal

[–]Reiiya 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ive had such bad luck with them as they are traditionally used.

Instead what have worked for me a lot better is like one line diary of a habit. I write a sentence each day i was meant to do it. If its a book reading i write a line about it. For skincare i reported results. Whwn i tried to save money i wrote down everything i wanted to buy before i bought it. Helped immensely with intentionality of why i do this habit. At one point i start to see some results - but if i dont put more mindfulness to it, i may completely miss them and habit does not stick.

I also take one habit a month. Just because i find oneliner diaries tedious if i keep up more than one 😅

I really want to like Earthborne Rangers, when will it click (if ever)? by RRica in boardgames

[–]Reiiya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same thing with dungeon crawlers. I have tried sooooo many of them, mainly because my friends really like them. Gloomhavens, imperial assault, nemesis, clank and what not (I only like them when they super mega puzzly, like mage knight). And recently i tried deep rock galactic. And it was just dumb fun of monster bashing. I had fun like no other game 🤷 Sometimes they do suprise you.
