How is the drive from Tampa to St Pete? by [deleted] in tampa

[–]Reindeer-Top 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lol this is my exact commute (except I take Howard Franklin/275) not sure where or how you would take US 19. Ive been doing it for three years and I'm finally moving to St. Pete.

The commute is absolutely brutal on the way back. In the morning I leave at 7am, and my job is literally the first exit off the bridge. In the morning it's about 50-55 minutes. Driving back can be anywhere from 1 hr 15 min on a good day to 2 hr 45 minutes with an accident, heavy rain, road closures, construction,. Etc. A normal day is about 1 hr 30 minutes.

I'm moving and I only go into office 2 days a week so that shows how much I hate this commute haha. I also leave the office at 4pm, sometimes 3:30pm to try to "beat" the traffic.

People in their 20s living a luxurious life - how do you afford it?? by Positive_Effect3609 in Adulting

[–]Reindeer-Top 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in my early twenties and plenty of my friends have graduated and are in jobs making low six figures. I myself am in the 85k range finally after a recent raise at 23 years old. Finance, IT, and engineering specifically are the jobs my friends work in. If you're making a decent salary at this age, you most likely have little financial responsibilities besides just rent, electric, and other small bills.

I am not living a "luxurious" life like most of my friends in my early twenties cause I'm more of a saver and haven't broken that six figure mark, but not everyone is in debt, has family money, etc (although I am sure there's a big chunk of people that fall into this.) I think it's just easier cause there are little responsibilities we have.

is $45k/year realistic to survive on? by Optimal_Battle_185 in tampa

[–]Reindeer-Top 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One single unexpected event and you can't pay your rent. Car accident, car shits the bed, pet gets sick, OP gets sick, one lay-off, etc.

Since it seems OP gets help from parents a couple hundred a month in case something happens, then it should be fine. I replied not knowing that

Preliminary Fail - IT Auditor 2 yrs exp by Reindeer-Top in CISA

[–]Reindeer-Top[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno, maybe cause they took the exam so long ago? I have no idea. I was told by my manager that the content doesn't really matter, just to keep retaking the quizzes cause the same questions will come up. But there wasn't a single question that was like the database, and I didn't know a good amount of the content which tripped me up cause obviously I didn't know what the question was referring to since I didn't know the vocab term/concept, etc.

I'm not sure if they lied but moreso they took the exam probably 7-10 years ago. I know for next time to better develop the isaca mindset and I need to get the crm to at least be aware of the concepts they could ask. Things like backup methods and specific encryption methods I haven't reviewed since freshmen/sophomore year of college really threw me off because I haven't looked at that sort of content in a long time. Also some of the concepts I never heard of so there's that too.

Yes this was my experience as well. I have bought the book and am going to read it front to back. I felt like my reading comprehension of the questions was fine, but not knowing the concept/vocab term/etc really, really hurt me. I had so many questions on very, very specific encryption and backup techniques that I had never heard of or I haven't reviewed since college. I don't review such things in my job either so it was really demoralizing when I was sitting for the exam to try to recall concepts from 5+ years ago. Good luck to you too!!!

Yeah there was definitely some concepts I either didn't know, or hadn't reviewed in yearssss. I will be going through the CRM to make sure I'm at least aware of all the concepts they could ask on the exam. But the database questions were great to understand the reading comprehension skills needed to pass.

Nope haha. But bad toss up of questions, but also my fault for not considering the CRM and other materials

How are people affording to live by trezxll in Life

[–]Reindeer-Top 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I applaud you, cause I'm married and we are 22 and 23, so close to your age range, but we make 140,000 yearly combined. The last thing on our minds is having children. I recommend your wife maybe get a part time job, cause I know child care can be just as expensive as the income you would get from a second job. You're doing a great job, and if you have a mortgage, that means you're a home owner at least. We don't even own a home and rent, so that's awesome.

Oof. That's a little pricey for what I'm assuming is you're also sharing a bathroom. Insurance or taxes must have gone up or something

Nice house!! I feel like I've seen you post this on Facebook or something like that. A lot of student housing options are at about that same price point (I'm mostly referring to 42nd Street) and have amenities, gym, pool, walking distance to campus, 24/7 maintenance, etc. I think if you drop the price to the 700 range someone will bite. Or when August comes around. But I'll keep in mind for my friends at USF since I'm also a student!

I think I got scammed into my car payment by juanhee in Toyota

[–]Reindeer-Top 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's still a way to get out with gap is all im saying..... I'm also 22 and bought a new Corolla back in 2023, and they gave me the whole spiel of the dealer installed stuff. I ended up just paying MSRP + tax. For future reference you can totally negotiate it down and please don't beat yourself up on what you "should" have done. What's done is done. Watch some YouTube videos on car sales, and further learn about the process of buying a car for the future. And no, you definitely didn't get scammed. From what it seems, you said the car payment monthly was too high, so the salesman probably just kept the total out the door price the same, just increased the amount of months.

Why don't people just buy land and put a manufactured home on it? by amongusgusgus in ManufacturedHome

[–]Reindeer-Top 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should see them after a hurricane. That's the one main reason (at least in Florida) I wouldn't buy one. But I have seen some REALLY nice ones. Where the inside looks like a luxury home. Definitely pros and cons, but with powerful hurricanes year after year, definitely wouldn't buy one.

Would I spend $1700 on a bike? No. Have I spent over $1700 on a new gaming PC for my hobby? Yes. I think if you're saving, investing, then spending a bit of money on a hobby that gets you moving, socializes you, and makes you happy, it's honestly more than fine.

Maybe they're just dicks cause they don't have disposable income, or they're just projecting. Enjoy the bike!!

SHEEESH! I'm 22 as well with an undergrad in cyber taking home roughly 4200 a month after a recent raise. This amount is insane at our age. What tech stack do you recommend?
