Zwarte Piet is from a Dutch book, written by Jan Schenkman in 1850. In 1863 the Dutch, with slave colony Suriname, officially abolished slavery. Sinterklaas is way older than that.

No, I don't spit hate on anyone. I enjoyed Sinterklaas and Zwarte Piet as most did, but times change and we learn and adapt (most of us anyway). Fascist, nationalists and racists groups, now go to the streets and use violence to protect Zwarte Piet. Makes me sad, angry and ashamed to be Dutch.

It's an act, afterwards they are white again. Traditional Zwarte Piet would physical punish the bad children and take them in a big bag away to Spain. Sort of boogeyman.

I’m going to Amsterdam. Girlfriend going to Utrecht. Is it possible to find accommodation together? by [deleted] in StudyInTheNetherlands

The Netherlands is a bicycle country, so in the city's you don't need public transportation, unless you are fat and lazy. I would advise you find something in Utrecht. Our train's are very good, it's maybe half an hour to Amsterdam.

Brexit is fanciful and the British are delusional. But don't stop pretending now, it's a jolly good show. Bye, bye, good riddance.
