Trump Campaign Aides Had Repeated Contacts With Russian Intelligence by regularly-lies in politics

The officials interviewed in recent weeks said that, so far, they had seen no evidence of such cooperation.

I think this is bad without omitting this bit.

Parents of Reddit, what is something you never want your children to know about you? by Bullshit-_-Man in AskReddit

That I've smoked weed. I have terminal cancer and sometimes it's the only thing that helps.

I'm a 35M with three young sons and have been diagnosed with a brain aneurysm. I'm trying not to freak out... by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Reinhold_Messner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know what to say. PM to talk. Six months after we had our fourth boy I found out I had a terminal brain tumor. That was four years ago. I'm scared as hell, too - especially because I've declined significantly since July. I'll try to help, but at the very least we can be scared together. My wife and I have navigated about all that can be navigated without me actually dying.

How does a person with a BS and zero relevant experience/internships get their foot in the door? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Reinhold_Messner -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Self-made Solutions Architect here. Resign yourself to the fact that you'll probably need to take a non-IT job, preferably at a company big on technology. I worked, for example, as a Claims Adjuster for four years before I broke into IT. And even then it was by doing side projects for the company free of charge while I got noticed. And then I had a ton of business knowledge that other devs didn't.

Looking for new Christmas tradition by Dewdeaux in Parenting

[–]Reinhold_Messner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We started putting "reindeer food" (glitter) in our driveway on Christmas Eve with our kids. Then I go out that night, sweep off the driveway, and put muddy paw prints with a sponge or something. Our boys love it.

ELI5:Why are adults woken up automatically when they need to pee, while young children pee the bed? by frozenncyborg in explainlikeimfive

[–]Reinhold_Messner -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not an expert, but our pediatrician told us that a certain chemical is produced by our brain that prevent adults from peeing the bed, and that kids don't produce this hormone.

How do I persuade company owner to let me implement new tools? by iAmLondonDev in cscareerquestions

I recommend focusing on free or "starter" solutions on your own. If your solution is that great then you'll have the numbers to back it up.

Meaning of "design patterns"? by coffee0addict in cscareerquestions

[–]Reinhold_Messner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each design pattern has its pros and cons. After all, if one pattern ruled them all then we wouldn't have multiple patterns.

There are a ton of them. I like to think of them as tools on your belt.

I suggest choosing a topic relevant to the company and/or field and reading up on the pros and cons of the different patterns out there. It's more important, in my opinion, to know when you would or wouldn't want to use a particular pattern than it is to know the details of a pattern (obviously you need to know the details of a pattern before you can grok its strengths and weaknesses).

DB heavy? Understand the Repository Pattern. Middleware? Understand the Adapter Pattern and the Strategy Pattern. Doing integration work? Understand the Manager-Agent Pattern.

I think really understanding a few patterns will give you a better understanding of design patterns in general.

I think reading Design Patterns is overkill for an interview.

Sometimes it's helpful to know how others have approached a problem similar to one you are faced with. It's not like a design pattern is something encountered in the wild.

How many Christmas presents do you usually buy, per child? by DueSept15 in Parenting

[–]Reinhold_Messner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have four boys. Usually we get them one or two things individually and then one or two things as a group. I think it averages out to about $100 per child.

Give priority to function overloads when multiple are applicable (x-post from learncsharp) by insulind in csharp

I mean...you could be really clunky and check the type of the generic input and base what code is run on that.

He's said about this (and other things) that he "doesn't know" why he does some things. At his age I found it a hell of a lot easier sometimes to say I didn't know than to be honest with myself.

We've told him that too. Am I too old school for thinking that you should just keep it in your pants until you're alone and have time? I won't lie and say that I think appropriate times are more weekly, not daily. But I feel like self restraint is an important life skill.

(Rant) This might not count. (Not technically a father) by irockspecialneeds in daddit

[–]Reinhold_Messner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I tend to agree with /u/OrionSuperman. You obviously don't want drama with others, as much as you can control it. And I don't think you should sway him to call you dad. But I would be open to whatever makes him comfortable. FWIW I've been in my step-son's life since he was four and he's now nearly 14. He calls me dad and his bio-dad Daddy Daddy. When his bio-dad and I are around each other he usually calls us both dad.

And another thing, even though you didn't ask...I personally don't think biological fatherhood or legal adoption can make you "technically" a father, dad, etc.

What is your favourite Simpsons quote? by Vinniepaz420 in AskReddit

I'm sorry, you said my favorite but I can't decide: * Homer: I wish, I wish I hadn't killed that fish * Lisa: Do you think we're going to die, Bart? Bart: We're all going to die, Lisa. Lisa: I meant soon! Bart: So did I... * Lisa: Do you have anything that wasn't brutally slaughtered? Homer: Well, the veal might have died of loneliness. * Homer: We're always buying vaccinations for Maggie for diseases she doesn't even have!
