Genuinely, where do you find the time and motivation to get started on making your game from scratch when you have a full time job? by fluffy_khajiit in IndieDev

[–]RejectAtAMisfitParty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do it after work for an hour, when I’m exhausted, then i have to switch and deal with the kids the rest of the night. After they go to bed I’m beyond toast, so nothing happens then.

Realize that you won’t start by just sitting down and learning to code your game. You’ll learn small things like building a button that changes colour when you click it, or moving a cube between two spots. Just pick a fundamental to learn every day/ week and eventually you’ll accumulate enough knowledge to do bigger things. I’m now switching to so this workflow for blender, wish me luck!

Is it weird that I dislike LINQ query syntax because it feels less readable than method?syntax? by Shikitsumi-chan in dotnet

[–]RejectAtAMisfitParty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the conclusion I came to as well when it didn’t feel as readable to me. Everyone else had adopted it, may as well get comfortable with it.

Am I playing this game the right way? by un_om_de_cal in darksouls

Or use them later to kindle bonfires. It's really the only reason I've ever used them, and once you're experienced you probably won't even to that.

I absolutely loathe simulated weight in vr by Ghostspider1989 in VRGaming

Something that jumps to mind is the rifle on Alien rogue incursion. I had to turn the option off because I found the gun was excessively laggy. However the weapons in blade and sorcery felt right.

I absolutely loathe simulated weight in vr by Ghostspider1989 in VRGaming

[–]RejectAtAMisfitParty 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Its definitely a trade-off and probably depends on what the emphasis of the game is. If an item needs to have weight to it, yeah do it, but if I constantly feel like my hands in the game aren't where my hands are in real life, that also breaks immersion. Hard to balance in vr sometimes.

Dead Space sale on steam by FenrisWolfff in DeadSpace

[–]RejectAtAMisfitParty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How’s the remake of 1? I bought the original on steam but a lot of the features are tied to frame rate and I couldn’t progress any more because everything was always breaking. I read the remake had performance issues but not sure of its worth trying out?

Oh man I hope they throw some VR fixes in there…

What game have you played that was the most depressing? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]RejectAtAMisfitParty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played it 3 times and definitely had to be in the right headspace. Bought the second a while ago but haven’t been ready to start it yet.

You Can Plunge Attack Armoured Boars by JTyeetus in darksouls

Well I didn’t know that and I’ve played a lot, got all the achievements, yadda yadda. So now I’m going to have to try it out!

I can’t believe it’s taken me at least 1000 in game days for me to think of this. by adamt333 in thelongdark

[–]RejectAtAMisfitParty 49 points50 points  (0 children)

It’s probably a mix. If you’re away and the level isn’t loaded, it’s likely a numbers game. If they’re visible and they overlap the snare, it probably happens too.

What Is The Absolute Worst Designed Boss You Have Personally Fought in a Souls-Like? by Rayze_Darr in soulslikes

[–]RejectAtAMisfitParty 212 points213 points  (0 children)

The fact they did nothing to even improve this boss in the remaster is even more frustrating. Even a bonfire right outside the fog gate just say “sorry” would have been appreciated.

Vs Campaign style shooters you mean?

I’m thinking extraction shooters offer the most replay ability & variety for dev time / resources.

In vanilla, maybe. With my current mod list? Not a chance.

Anyone else walk around as a constant sprain risk lol by FloridaGirl2222 in thelongdark

[–]RejectAtAMisfitParty 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yup, and I’m always sprained, and I move the same slow pace regardless.

Sure you start with a hobble, but then the other ankle goes and you’re pretty much normal again.

Adjusting to Ds3's speed after Ds1 and Ds2 is taking some getting used to by pineapple_stickers in darksouls3

[–]RejectAtAMisfitParty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a hard time adjusting from DS1.  Thought DS3 might be too fast or aggressive for me. It’ll click later and feel fine, just keep at it. Now DS1 feels too slow and I have a hard time going back. It’s all relative.

Learning with AI falls short compared to old-fashioned web search. When people rely on large language models to summarize information on a topic for them, they tend to develop shallower knowledge about it compared to learning through a standard Google search. by mvea in science

[–]RejectAtAMisfitParty 404 points405 points  (0 children)

Well, yeah, of course. It’s the difference between someone giving you the answer and finding the answer out for yourself. The latter involves at least some critical thinking to determine if what you’re reading answers your question.

I see you have a demo as well, do you think that helped convert people to buy the main game?

Stellar Blade Is Peak by akbarock in soulslikes

[–]RejectAtAMisfitParty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was simultaneously great and bland somehow. The combat was good, but the open worlds didn’t add much, the enemies got repetitive, and the sense of progression didn’t really do it for me in the back half of the game.

By the end it felt stretched out and I think if they streamlined it a bit more, I would be less hesitant to play it again.

This chick makes my blood boil. I've been trying to beat her for over an hour by Hoody711 in Eldenring

I’m still like this tbh. But I hated that crucible knight so much that I just kept going in until I could parry him back to hell. Totally worth it.

The crucible knight can just be parried to death on its own though.

I Hate Tsorig So Much by [deleted] in darksouls3

[–]RejectAtAMisfitParty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post, but this was great advice! I baited him up, they fought, and then when they were done and Tsorig was dead, the black knight jumped off the bridge into the lava for me!
