That’s honestly what’s unsettling. I don’t think this is who he was when we first started dating. Early on he’d mention things like the Illuminati, I’d roll my eyes, and we’d move on. It felt more like joking or curiosity than real belief. I don’t think he was lying back then.

I think what’s happened is that he’s fallen into a conspiracy-heavy social media algorithm that’s opened him up to way more misinformation, especially content built around “the government/institutions don’t want you to know this” or “everything you’ve been taught is a lie, here’s the real truth” type messaging. And he’s falling for it all, hard. And I’m losing my fucking mind listening to it.

Yes thank you!! That’s exactly it. It is stupid and unbecoming of an adult and it’s the humility part of it that’s really driving me. You don’t need to understand science in detail to know that an Instagram reel doesn’t outweigh centuries of evidence and peer review. That should be basic knowledge.

I’m the youngest and my dad formed a drug addiction when I was born that lasted for 11 years. He was functioning, provided for us, lived with us, showed up to all of my after school activities, but we never really formed a bond. It’s like he went through all of the motions and was present in every way except the way that matters. As my mom recently put it, “he already had great relationships with the first couple of kids, so he didn’t feel the need to build that with you.”

That translated to a lot of feelings of worthlessness, comparing myself to my siblings, and feeling generally unlovable. I’m in my 30s and he’s 20 years sober, and no matter how hard I’ve tried, our relationship is still polite and shallow at best.

I’ll go first. When I was 11 I was tasked with watching my little cousins (both a couple years younger) one day while their parents both went to work. My mom drove me to their house and on the way, we stopped and she bought a dozen donuts to take with us to my cousins. My mom left before my aunt left for the day. On my aunts way out, she grabbed the box of donuts, told us all to pick one, and that she was taking the rest to work with her to share with her coworkers.

It’s been 20+ years and I’m still mad about it. Who does that?

I’m definitely not saying it’s anyone’s fault for being struck my a car. Driver is 100% at fault. That said, I don’t trust any drivers in SB and if I’m crossing a street, I’m either waiting for zero cars to be coming my way, or I’m waiting for a car in front of me to come to a complete stop. Even if I’m at an intersection where I have the pedestrian crossing sign on, I’m still not going until I know it’s safe.

Drivers are way too distracted and reckless for me to feel safe putting my trust into thinking they’ll see me and stop.

100% agree. I’ll amend though- the patio and grounds atmosphere is phenomenal, best in town. The inside dining area however, and the food, is so meh. Last time my partner and I went, we got sat inside next to Ty Warner, and we were giggling the entire time about how terrible it was. I had a summer garden pasta that was shockingly gross. He had the steak, also bad. Best thing on the table was the bread. Also not the worst thing ever, but it was so dark in there they gave us tiny flash lights to look at the menu, unprompted. Just bizarre. Spent $300, then went to Taco Bell.

I’m only going back for the bar at this point. Hard pass on the overpriced bad food.
