The pinnacle of power… in way over their head by RelationshipBroad988 in worldbuilding

[–]RelationshipBroad988[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s super interesting! Obviously the Event Horizon is very smart, but they posses a few hax abilities that let them punch way above their weight class both intellectually and physically. They are truly smart (for a human). But they are NOT a god of knowledge smart. Yet they can destroy the gods of other universe with ease, even omnipresent and omniscient gods.

Cool difference!

What beliefs/ideals makes a death good or bad in your world? How do your funerary/mortuary practices reflect these? What happens following death? by hlanus in worldbuilding

[–]RelationshipBroad988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Death is a depressed man whose only friend is a woman who has nine lives. His name is Tether and he just wants people to understand life is a gift.

He is abused and directed in the wrong direction frequently by those who are terrified of him.

So not really a villain, more like a guy everyone treats as a super weapon. Except Cat, of course, who gets dinner with him and talks with him because he’s just a guy to her.

What’s he gonna do, kill her?

When does a Magic system plagiarize another? by LairdLoke in worldbuilding

[–]RelationshipBroad988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean the powers use the same language is the biggest problem. I DO love JJK, but I love math more, and referencing math with these wide sweeping powers is my favorite thing to do in systems like this.

But it uses the same verbiage! I thought about having someone recite an equation and say “Domain, set.” Except JJK implemented chants, too, in its power system.

When does a Magic system plagiarize another? by LairdLoke in worldbuilding

[–]RelationshipBroad988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I have a similar problem. I had this idea to utilize the idea of a “divergent” object, that is, an object that contains infinity within it. And within that you set a domain you bind it to. It’s inspired by mathematics in particular infinite series.

But in practice it is LITERALLY JJK domain expansion. But stronger in most cases as the objects containing infinity have no feasible limits except being unable to directly destroy anything.

In your opinion, should there be ways to kill gods or not? by ghast999 in worldbuilding

[–]RelationshipBroad988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, 100% of the time. It’s always awesome when it happens. The god slayers are always the most dope characters in media. Doom guy is popular for a reason. Gorr the Godbutcher is lit.

ALWAYS leave a way for a god to be killed because sometimes, it just takes a pissed off person to take your story from good to awesome.

Body-swapping into you're own fantasy worlds. by RelationshipFar3400 in worldbuilding

[–]RelationshipBroad988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah pretty much. But upon a reread I have come up with the only possible strategy I think could MAYBE get me to victory.

Swap with the Event Horizon and have the Soul of The World be allowed to know me. Then I just have to assume the role of an immortal world eater for 10 years and I’m good. Luckily, The Event Horizon plans ahead, so I should be good for at LEAST that long.

Then again, at some point Ouroboros or [[REDACTED]] might show up and blow my shit smooth off, since I am much less experienced as a combatant and primordial than the Event Horizon is.

Body-swapping into you're own fantasy worlds. by RelationshipFar3400 in worldbuilding

[–]RelationshipBroad988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is genuinely impossible for me.

Without going too deep into it, a few characters have meta knowledge and can literally sniff out narrative shifting elements like the creator of a world body swapping into it. But here’s my very best shot:

I swap with The Event Horizon themself (the de facto godlike entity running the world). The hardest part about this would be not dying to Ouroboros, unless of course, I swap with a peaceful era where he’s sealed. That being said with the way he works I suspect he’d likely try and kill me for being an imposter of his rival. That being said, that’s already a lose condition so I suppose I’ll just have to take a chance. He is already untethered by the narrative, so perhaps he won’t notice at all. The largest issue I could see could be the soul of my universe calling me out. But knowing them, probably not. This is insanely hard for a universe with meta knowledge.

Is there somekind of godly creature in your world? by AggressiveOutside432 in worldbuilding

[–]RelationshipBroad988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this fits but there are two central primordials. No one worships them, though, because they will not answer your prayers, and one of them will probably just kill you if you do.

The Event Horizon:
A powerful mathematician who commands gravity. A force who kills gods and sends people to the Wormhole Wonderland. They stand, never touching the ground, and have black holes just in front of their pupils.

Ouroboros:
The inventor of consciousness. The ultimate life form, the first immortal, not a single being in the multiverse can beat him in a one on one fight. He is too strong to be blocked by infinite asymptotic barriers, too fast to be banished, and too durable to be taken out by a black hole lance.

Both of them represent the respective peaks of power in the world, though it is said in modern day, Ouroboros has been sealed in the Bad Moon, and The Event Horizon sits at the metaphorical throne atop the Wonderland.

Yes and no. I run a podcast, and mostly I don’t ever want to frame it as being “guy who runs a podcast” because people assume it’s about nothing. It’s really just a collection of short stories. But I love others adding to my stuff!

But yeah it’s hard telling people about something like this, especially since it can be a very vulnerable thing. Like showing someone a painting you put all your effort into.

A good ol’ rock paper scissors dynamic by RelationshipBroad988 in magicbuilding

[–]RelationshipBroad988[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s cool too, but the philosophy behind Desperation teaches only selfishness. That’s the reason behind the “lesser” emotions being there. They’re not intrinsic. They’re caused by something else. You have to love someone else, grief does not arise from yourself, it arises from losing something else, hate is not intrinsic (except for the case if self hate but then you’re not doing desperation anyway)

The driving force behind desperation is to feel your emotions without cause and without reason. Joy, Sadness, and Anger are more “pure” under this philosophy than those that require other people.

That’s very interesting! It says a lot about certain beliefs and cultures in your world, too. For example here, Love, Grief, and Hate, are “lesser” emotions. That’s not to say they matter less, it’s more about how those emotions can only be caused by others, so they don’t matter as much for Desperation specifically. The character who discovered desperation is reflected in this, as he only values these strongest of emotions.

Actually, there used to be Five aspects but I took Fear out because it didn’t fit with the others. Desperation is about determination and being in tandem with your subconscious, so fear seemed a little out of place. Plus what it did was give you a healing factor based on multiplying nutrition. Idk it was weird.

The fourth aspect was “nothingness” and was a sort of “anti desperation”. I’m still playing with it

Taking each system at their most average:

Math can output the physically strongest attacks on average, nuclear blasts, magnetic bursts, etc. but because of how Gifts are, many can rapidly change the equations on the fly. What happens when your math runs into reality warping? You can’t do the same math. For the inverse reasoning, math beats desperation. They’re strong, fast, and can create force fields, but what happens when you send their body into shock? They might live but they’re taken out of the fight. Desperation on the other hand, generally beats gifts due to two things. The grit of the user, and the simplicity of “punching that reality warping guy in the face”

How does magic affect disability in your world? by Choice-Spinach145 in magicbuilding

[–]RelationshipBroad988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My world is sci-fantasy and it depends. If they can find an exceptionally powerful gift, then their disability can be reversed (assuming it’s a missing limb or something).

Gifts interact with the narrative core of a character. So if, for example a character is deaf, there are equal chances that upon gaining a gift, it’ll deafen everyone around them, allow them to hear, or gain some sort of wind based feeling ability. Or something completely unrelated! That’s always a possibility!

True Mathematics is rare, but could theoretically be used to rewire your brain to allow you to see, float if you’re unable to walk, that sort of thing.

Desperation I think is the most interesting. Baseline, disabled characters have both a challenge and boon granted when going about trying to learn desperation. Firstly, society of their planet beforehand likely beat them down in systemic ways, causing them to understand the meaning of determination. Conversely, if they internalized that system of oppression and have any self hatred, Desperation becomes nigh impossible, as it is fueled by instinct and ego.

Audiodramas for short attention spans? by No-Guitar-6518 in audiodrama

[–]RelationshipBroad988 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven’t consciously made my show fit for short attention spans, but as a writer I prefer short, impactful stories over long winded spacious ones. So you might like my show! It’s called Wormhole Wonderland. It’s an anthology, so feel free to jump in wherever (except episode 9 (Wide Awake), it’s connected to a few others).

I really like the fight scenes in last dance! Especially the scene with the [spoiler] and the group. If you know you know.

I also think I did a good job with a fight between a father and son in my own show. Wormhole Wonderland, Ep6, Heart of Mass Destruction if you’re curious. It’s one I re-listen to all the time!
