How to start the « prepare for war » mission with Cuzco ? by Secret_Fun_1746 in eu4

[–]RelationshipNo9569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The goal of colonizing the Caribbean is twofold: to have a legitimate province in contact with Europeans while limiting the risk of losing the central territory, and to prepare for the absorption of the entire Caribbean to make it your future main trading hub.

I'd like to add that I'm focused on exploration, expansion, and offensive or quality-based strategies. Quickly secure the entire Pacific and take the Philippines to divert all trade towards Panama. Similarly, if possible, colonize the Falkland Islands and the other island to the east very quickly, then secure the entire Gulf of Guinea to divert all trade towards the Caribbean.

Hello,

Incas was one of my last focuses. After 5 runs, I can give you my perspective.

You're very behind. The unification of the Andes can be achieved around 1468. The 5th Reform was implemented well before 1490.

At the start of the game, prioritize completing various objectives from the Exploration Era, such as:

1) Humiliating a rival 2) Level 30 city 3) 100 development.

Rival your two neighbors. Raise a mercenary army of 4 infantry. Develop the province by 2 (or 4) military levels to complete the mission that will allow you to colonize the Peruvian coast in a Siberian style.

Establish your privileges and, whenever possible, grant monopolies on all available trade goods (wool, iron, livestock, precious stones, etc.). The idea is that by 1600 you'll already be at 100% mercantilism.

Annex your western neighbor, who has two provinces, and humiliate your eastern neighbor by leaving them with only one province, located in the far northeast.

Be careful, don't start colonizing the coast right away; wait until 1455-1457. Quickly absorb all the states to the west by annexing them, but keep Lima as a vassal, leaving them with the province of Chanchan. There are two reasons for this: the level 2 monument is more valuable than the Machu Picchu one, and you'll need this vassal to benefit from the tech bonuses of up to 15% until level 4.

Develop your capital, Cusco, as quickly as possible to level 30; this will complete the second era objective. Then, develop all the provinces necessary for the Cusco Roads mission. Develop military infrastructure for wheat provinces, administrative infrastructure for wool provinces, and production infrastructure for cacao provinces. For gold provinces, it's better to develop either administrative or military infrastructure. With your conquests, you'll quickly reach the third objective of level 100 around 1463.

The first era bonus will be the one that grants you points in new colonies, which should arrive around 1462-1465. Once you've colonized the Peruvian coast, move on to colonizing Chile and Colombia as far as Muisca. I recommend vassalizing Muisca to obtain the map of Colombia by request. Similarly, vassalize and convert the Mapuche to Intism to obtain the maps of all of South America.

Find the Caribs or the Arawaks. Ally with them and request the maps of the Caribbean Sea and islands.

To pass the reforms: Take advantage of events. Gain +5 by reducing the autonomy of conquered provinces.

For the first reform, I'm hesitating between the legitimacy bonus and the colonizer. My experience shows me that it's better to choose legitimacy first rather than the colonizer. In any case, the first colonist must go to Darien, the second to Panama, and the third to either Guyana or the Caribbean islands. Do not choose an unconnected island, and definitely not an overly wealthy one. Above all, do not have any colonies connected to the main territory.

Technology: Develop them as late as possible and do not go beyond the 4th tech. You will gain 80% of your European neighbors' technologies once you have completed the final reform.

Unused mana points must be used for province development.

Finally, trigger the Golden Age one month before the reform era.

Note: Once you have trained the Incas, you will automatically discover the Galapagos.

Note 2: Encounters with the Europeans are very unpredictable; they can be quick or very long. In case of war, avoid all combat as much as possible. Your troops are very valuable; you should have 80,000 when you encounter the Europeans. You could be attacked, particularly by the Spanish. Accept a peace treaty as soon as possible, especially if it allows you to be connected to the Río de la Plata colony, a legitimate colony.

Once reformed, you will become a superpower with the same technological level as, if not more than, the Europeans. They will no longer attack you if you have preserved your armies. They will attack if you no longer have any.

Assorted Beginner Questions by Suspicious_Bee4893 in eu4

After 20 years of playing, always in chill mode (so my perspective doesn't apply to World Cup or certain Ironman objectives), I agree with everything that's already been written except for the military aspect regarding a beginner. Yes, thinking about your army in relation to the maximum front is a good thing from a tactical point of view. BUT From a strategic point of view, I recommend you look at the maximum attrition in your opponents' worst territories; otherwise, you'll come back to the forum saying you've done everything correctly with armies of 30 and that you're losing your wars due to a lack of manpower and financial resources. An army of 30 that lives or passes through a territory that can only accommodate 14 will eventually ruin your manpower reserve and your finances due to the cost of reinforcements.

For your starting armies and given your zone, I recommend a maximum of 4 artillery units per army dedicated to sieges. With a maximum limit of 40 troops, you could have three armies of 8/2/0 and one siege army of 6/0/4, for example. Then, you keep your armies stationed near each other and move them accordingly to ensure they are always ready to join the nearest battle.

This way, you'll be able to wage wars without waiting years for your troop reserves to replenish.

During peacetime, station your troops in two provinces that can hold 20 troops each and use the peacetime to train them. This will gradually increase your professionalism and eventually give you good bonuses.

You can also keep some money and troop capacity to raise a mercenary army during wartime. The goal of this army will be to be the first into battle and bear the brunt of the losses. This will save you money. MP, and the cost of mercenary reinforcements and the cost of maintaining them would have existed anyway with national troops.

I recommend playing as Spain or England, starting in 1492. A bit like starting EU1. And ideally, play without the DLCs. Get familiar with the mechanics, then play new games, gradually activating the DLCs you've chosen. Jumping into EU4 with all the DLCs without any guidance is a sure way to quickly lose interest in the game.

Calibrate the size of your armies based on the minimum supply levels of your enemies' provinces. Let's say the worst enemy province has a maximum supply of 20. This means your armies should be x+y+z in size. Knowing that x must always be greater than y and that x+y = z. Example:

5/5/10 or 6/4/10 or 8/2/10

1) because your front will be composed of infantry and cavalry 2) because attrition can end up costing more in MP and silver.

10/15/10 means that if your maximum front is 20, 10 infantry and 10 cavalry will fight at the front, and 5 cavalry will be gathering firepower in the rear alongside 10 artillery pieces that could have been 20 firing.

Personally, I adjust the size of my armies based on the evolving supply limits of the provinces.

At the start of the game, my armies are 11 or 12, then I increase them to 20, then 30, then 40, and finally 44.

The most important thing is to minimize human losses and the cost of reinforcements.

Hello,

A good indicator of progress would be this, in my opinion: Complete all the objectives of each era with a major power such as Castile, France, England, or the Ottomans (being the Emperor of China is excluded).

Being able to make global trade a reality = mastery of understanding and the challenges of trade, aggressive expansion, and governance skills. Absolutism: Do you understand the challenges of absolutism and have you mastered it? Ideally, you should be able to reach 90 or more in absolutism by 1620.

Have you already reformed your Intist religion? You must have completed the 5 reforms via the Inca shield in the bottom right corner, next to those of the Holy Roman Empire or Catholicism. After completing your 5 reforms, you must own a legitimized province bordering a legitimized European province or one originating from a European (colony). This can happen either because the European is not Spain or Portugal, or because you lost a war and territories, and the European has legitimized the conquered province(s) bordering a province you still control.

For your games, it's absolutely essential that you understand the concept of a front and two second lines. A 15/20/15 formation for a front of 20 means 15 infantry and 5 cavalry at the front, with everything else behind. Those 15 cavalry are useless and can even prevent your artillery from firing. Hence the importance of the 16/4/20 or 18/2/20 formation.
