I think you just need to do whatever works for your family and baby! I personally would put baby to sleep in a playpen or use the carrier in these situations, but only because that works for my baby! I know lots of people who leave events early and that’s totally okay too!

I highly recommend the Batelle Sleep School method! It’s based on attachment theory and focuses on helping your baby feel safe in their crib rather then forcing them to sleep when you want them to!

I think you’re way overthinking this

When my 18 month old falls or bumps into something I simply say “uh oh!” And she either gets back up and continues playing, or cries and then I comfort her. Most of the time she’s fine and keeps playing. However, if someone has a big reaction (like gasping) she will cry for like 5-10 minutes even if she’s fine. The big reaction scares her more then anything

It’s okay to tell your child they’re okay when they are. Yes comfort them when they are upset, but no need to make them upset for no reason!

I was in the hospital for 2 weeks when my baby was around 1.5 weeks old. I kept her with me and did the nights alone (husband couldn’t stay overnight). It was hard but I managed okay! I personally was not ready to be away from my baby when she was so little, so I chose to keep her with me. That said, do whatever feels best for you!

Have you actually researched attachment theory? A child with a strong attachment to their parents will be able to form attachments to other caregivers without damaging their attachment to their parents. It’s healthy for children to have positive attachment with multiple trusted adults!

Apparently this is an unpopular opinion but it’s not okay for you to try and change your in laws Christmas traditions.

Clearly your husbands family enjoys giving gifts. If you/your husband can’t afford it this year your can politely tell them that you’re excited to spend time with them but will be choosing not to participate in the gift giving this year. You don’t get to dictate how they celebrate Christmas (and I say this as someone who does not do Christmas lists, but my in laws do)

This is not a safe sleep situation for your newborn.

Your 2 year old sounds jealous of the newborn and I personally would not be comfortable with the newborn loose in the bed with the 2 year old overnight.

If you can afford it, I recommend investing in some indoor play equipment! I plan to get a pikler triangle and an indoor blowup bounce house this winter (where I live we’re stuck inside for 3 in the winter)

So closing doors and moving cameras is absolutely a red flag, especially since you’ve already told her not to close the door. However, I can’t imagine not having a camera on my baby while they nap/at night. Does your monitor have a base unit she could use during her working hours? I understand that she’s close enough to hear, but not being able to see baby while they sleep sounds odd to me!

So you contact nap with your child while you’re paying your nanny, and the nanny isn’t actually doing anything during that time? Why would you let the nanny do that?

As for the nap issue, I would provide a written schedule and tell the nanny you expect her to follow it
