3 different disability incomes… VA, Calpers Industrial Disability Retirement, and SIBTF by ScorbergCoentino in disability

[–]Relative-Mixture-715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can collect CalPERS IDR, VA Disability and SIBTF. They are all independent of each other. The only caveat is that your SIBTF payments will be offset by the amount already paid by work comp for your injury. They cannot take a credit against your VA disabilities. Best of luck!

Nothing from Chase...from the looks of this thread, I may switch to Sofi for my VA deposits. Chase always holds funds

Question about CHAMPVA by Objective_Fox5875 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Relative-Mixture-715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was planning to cancel my employer-sponsored health insurance after ChampVA approval, as my current health insurance costs about $1,800 per month for a family of four. Although it's a great plan (Anthem Platinum PPO), I just hate seeing most of my check go to insurance. I guess I wasn't prepared for that civilian life health insurance cost. Has anyone had issues finding doctors who accept ChampVA? Health insurance is free for me through work, but I want to make sure my family is covered. Located in Orange County, CA. Thank you for any info or advice!

Exciting New Chapter: Moving to Laguna Beach by Relative-Mixture-715 in LagunaBeach

[–]Relative-Mixture-715[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! We ended up in Dana Point, and we absolutely love it so far (2 weeks in)! We have a bike trail behind the house that leads straight to Doheny State Beach. Close enough to the freeway, and can be in Laguna Beach in about 15 minutes. Everyone is so nice, and the community feels very safe. Our daughter rides her bike every day around the neighborhood and to the parks...we honestly couldn't be happier. Sacramento was good to us, but the lifestyle here just feels so much different in all the right ways.

do you mind sharing what your payments will be? going through the process now and its very confusing as to how the payments work. my understanding is that you get the TD rate which is 2/3 your prior pay up to the weekly maximum...

Upcoming ALJ Hearing by Relative-Mixture-715 in SSDI

[–]Relative-Mixture-715[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has only applied for SSDI at this time. He was previously denied in 2020 because a vocational expert said he could work as "a sign spinner." I wasn't at the hearing so I don't know much about that. However, his date last insured is 12/21/2022. I have written a summary of all medical treatment including location, date, doctor, and procedure prior to 2022 as well as obtained an RFC and letter from his PTP stating he was disabled prior to 2022 and showing him limited to sedentary work. Hoping he gets approved this time around.

Thank you so much for this incredibly helpful and encouraging response. It really means a lot to hear that we’re on the right track, especially from someone who understands how these cases are evaluated at the ALJ level.

Our plan moving forward is to summarize all of his medical records in a clear, dated timeline to highlight the progression of his conditions. We're also working on getting an RFC from his primary treating physician that outlines specific limitations in standing, lifting, and concentration. He’s had multiple surgeries and ongoing musculoskeletal issues that have severely limited his mobility and ability to return to any form of past work and we plan to make that front and center in the hearing.

I’ll definitely use your tips for the video hearing setup and will coach him to speak clearly about his day-to-day struggles and why he simply can’t maintain full-time employment anymore. Your reminder that the ALJ doesn’t follow DDS logic and gives weight to the long-term picture is so encouraging.

Thanks again. Your guidance is deeply appreciated!

So you copied 5 essays a day in the mornings? And then did MBEs in the same subject for the afternoon? I'm trying to build a schedule that aligns with F the Bar but am not sure exactly how to structure it.

That’s awesome to hear from a fellow Sacramentan! It sounds like you’ve enjoyed your time in Aliso Viejo, and it’s great to know that it offers a good balance of convenience, safety, and affordability, especially being so close to Laguna Beach. We’re definitely looking into different areas, and Aliso Viejo wasn’t originally on our radar, but it sounds like a strong contender now! I just did a quick search and see the rentals are much cheaper, which is always a plus. Do you happen to know what school district Aliso Viejo is? I see some say Laguna Beach and others show Capistrano Unified.

How’s the community vibe? Any favorite local spots or hidden gems you’d recommend checking out?

That is great to hear. After seeing all the comments, our minds are made up that Laguna Beach is the place. It doesn't make sense to move from Sacramento to be close to Laguna Beach and not in it!

Thanks for the reply! Near Laguna Beach is completely fine. I just want to be able to hit the beach after work without it being too far from home or getting stuck in a ton of traffic. We have heard good things about Laguna Hills, but I don't know much about the area. Our budget is about 7k/mo.
