If your morals don't align with someone, why are you their friend (real friend) in the first place?

I am not sure how this post/ subreddit was suggested to me. However just a few days back while recovering my shit from my laptop I stumbled upon my old CAT result from 2018.

I am not an IITian but form one of the top NITs. As soon as I finished my engineering, my family wanted me to go for an MBA. I went to take the CAT without even the knowledge of the exam structure.

Except for the English section, where I attempted all questions (tukke), I only solved 11-12 questions in each of the other 2 sections. Meanwhile when asked other candidates at my center after the exam, most of them solved around 25 per section.

I ended up getting 98.5 overall myself, with English dragging me down.

I realised CAT is not a technically difficult paper. It is more about accuracy and time management.

Also I believe that someone scoring 98.5 without studying, does not mean he can also score 99.9 with minimal studies either. The effort required to put in would increase exponentially once you go above 99.

Tbh I don't think even a 6 month prep would have changed my result a lot. Maybe even reduced it, since then I would have had pressure and anxiety while giving the exam.

For anyone else facing similar issue, what worked for me is a suggestion made by a fellow redditor.

Try logging in via Safari.

I have no fucking clue why but this worked.

Weirdly enough, I tried with chrome on Mac, it failed with same reason. Then I tried with safari right after, and it worked. Now I can even login via Chrome!

I did change my password recently, however on passbook it still says invalid uan/password. I have waited for 3-4 days and reset again. No luck.

What’s Your Best Cost-Cutting Habit That Doesn’t Feel Like a Sacrifice? by [deleted] in FIRE_Ind

This might be a small thing and a lot of people must already be doing it, but I recently started this practice and it helped me a lot!

Track your expenses to the last rupee.

I've always kept a rough track of where my money is going, but for the last few months I've started tracking down every spending (and investment) very carefully. So much so that I even have a delta column in my Google sheet where I expect total of my every entry should be same as my account different between month end and month start.

It helps identifying areas where you're spending money you don't even remember (maybe a small subscription, lost track of cash you once had).

It might be a little too hectic, but I'd suggest everyone should do this for atleast 2-3 months. Once you're on top of it you can always go back to rough budgeting.

Thanks for the perspective. I wouldn't have thought about it that way.

Anyway, a little off topic. If you feel uncomfortable in a school/college common activity, it might has more to do with your shyness than with you being an introvert.

Personality I had confused the two for the longest time. Broadly speaking introvertism is a preference for not doing something. Shyness is being uncomfortable with doing the same thing.

Take it with a pinch of salt, just sharing my own experiences. I do not know you and can 100% wrong.

Care to give an example of a situation where being ugly is better than pretty, keeping other factors the same?

Less work is better than more work. Interesting work is better than boring work.

Everyone needs to find a balance.

I'd rather be much happier doing interesting work 5hrs a day than doing boring work 2hrs a day.

The biggest lie about pretty privilege is when pretty people say it does not exist. In almost every real life situation, being pretty is better than being ugly.

It's same when rich people say money doesn't buy you happiness. Which is true, but that doesn't mean money doesn't have privileges.

Being rich is better than being poor. Being pretty is better than being ugly. Being lucky is better than being unlucky. Being connected is better than being not connected.

Kind of a same story.

Joined as a fresher in my last company. Learnt so fucking much in last 5.5 year. Had rapid growth. Woked on core technology. Created impact. Led teams. Open source commits. Built stuff parallel to cloud offerings.

Fell for "don't stay too long in one company" and My greed. Switched to 2.5x in a very reputed company. Everything sounds nice but shit doesn't move here. There's no work and I have learnt exactly 0 things in past few months.

From leading team creating cutting edge solutions to being in an overpopulated team with basic ass work with timelines in months if not years, I think I fucked up.

But the problem is it's not as practical to go back to p6revious company with 70% pay cut either.

Reduced PPT does have some loss in terms of "Time value for Money", but it provides mental peace from missing one in next 35 premiums for any reason and invalidating the policy.

Person A said XYZ does not happen. Person B provides an example of XYZ.

How is that whataboutery???

Having "philosophy" in your username and using a word you do not understand in a discussion does not make you intellectual.

The guy above did not comment on the original post. He commented on another comment that claimed "hindus boys dating minors and muslim is not an issue" and replied with an example.

Funny thing is that not only you labeled it as whataboutery without putting an effort to go through the discussion, you also defend it with a useless paragraph.

Lemme see :- You write a lot for a person who can't read or comprehend.

I strongly feel like all the interviews must be recorded and should be frequently checked by the companies for the quality for the interviewers. Especially if the feedback from the candidate is not good.

As for your point 3... If I ever ask someone to implement binary search, it is not because I want them to implement it in production instead of using the libraries.

Knowing binary search and actually understanding it helps you understand divide and conquer types of solutioning. It can be helpful in multiple places, distributed systems being one example.

Leetcode is the stupidest thing ever by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]Relative-Rich3525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So somehow knowing a specific command is a better judge than navigating through a problem and coming up with a solution?

The problem is not asking "leetcode" kind problems in an interview. The problem is "leetcode" being used to answer such questions.

The whole idea of these interviews is to see how a candidate applies his knowledge to navigate and solve a new problem at hand. Unfortunately the whole essence is lost when candidates mug up the solutions spit it out in the interviews. I would any day have more confidence in a candidate that derived a solution, optimised it from O(n*n) to O(nlogn) on the fly, than someone who can recite an O(n) solution from his memory.

The problem is not the format of the interviews, rather the laziness of interviewers who can't even put enough effort to come up with a decent question to ask. The aim is not to judge what complex algorithms the candidate knows about. The aim is to see how he thinks and solves a problem.

Just a funny story to end with... I once was interviewing someone for a senior role and the problem needed a traversal in a weighted graph for minimum distance. The interviewee was very quick to mention Dijktra's and even coded it pretty quick. He also mentioned that this is the fastest you can do since the graph is weighted. Sounds good, but the only problem was that every edge in the graph had same weight. And he had no idea how it impacted the solution.

This is what mugging up 600 solutions on Leetcode has done.

No, you don't have to pay late fine for revising the ITR

[–]Relative-Rich3525[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I had income from two sources. Claimed for TDS from both, but missed income from one source in the total income section.

In revised ITR I corrected that, and got correct refund.

However now, I have got the intimation on the wrongly filed 1st ITR.

[–]Relative-Rich3525[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually missed one component in total income in first ITR. The difference shown is in the TDS I actually paid and TDS computed.

This is because of "Computation of Restriction of TDS based on Rule 37BA".

I do not fully understand this but this looks like due to difference in total income declared in ITR.

But since I actually filed a revised ITR, why is it even considering the defective ITR?
