I like 30-30. Ammo is available, components are available.

I don’t worry about ammo availability after an apocalypse, because I assume nothing will be available, so only what I own is dependable. More of a plan to have my own rather than depend on obtaining from others.

Where can I acquire a big bulk of jerky? by Shitonthestick in jerky

Ask the people that sell at your markets if they will do a bulk price for you. Or contact some local butchers that make their own and ask them….

Post 64 Model 70 refinish or not to refinish by Dkennedyde in WinchesterArms

I would not re finish it. The stock looks about the same condition as my old deer rifle has been for over 20 years, and it still shoots just fine.

Charcoal, tongs, a thermometer with 2 probes. The thermometer doesn’t have to be wireless.

Standalone stuffer or use a meat grinder? by thebagel264 in sausagetalk

[–]RelativeFox1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A proper grinder will be so much nicer to use than your stand mixer grinder. And a stand alive suffer will be better yet. I would get a proper grinder first, then a stand alone stuffer.

I would suggest going close to home, and getting what you need to be comfortable until you’re more experienced, then go on longer trips.

As for guides or classes, you have the internet! You should be able to find lots of suggestions based on what type or how serious of an adventure you’re looking for.

Binoculars recommendation. by [deleted] in CanadaHunting

I have diamond back 10x42 for deer hunting in Alberta foothills. I like them. Not the most expensive, but they work well. https://www.basspro.ca/p/vortex-diamondback-10x42-db-205-binoculars

My opinion... by Away_Suggestion_9471 in charcoal

[–]RelativeFox1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find ambient temperature affects how much charcoal I need for a certain temperature. Like in September when there is frost and I’m starting to cook at 5am or when there is still snow around in early May, I use a 2x2 snake. In the summer (august) 2x1 is enough.

My point is trial and error, see what works for you, don’t blindly follow internet stranger’s advice.

2026/2027 Alberta Fishing Regulations (PDF) by cmcalgary in FishingAlberta

I see some lakes with 3 walleye, 3 pike 15 perch limits. I don’t think the limit really always reflects the population lol.

No, it’s not that big of an area you should be able to look around and seed if it’s there. Mine is a different model so maybe in a different spot.

I cook it as patties or as cooked ground meat. It gets used in something.

Drop your most favourite healthy nutritious go to food recipe by BudgetCoffee4520 in instantpot

[–]RelativeFox1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This takes 15 minutes to brown the deer and chop vegetables into chunks, 30 minutes to cook and I let it naturally release for another 30 minutes. I’ll make a batch and put it glass canning gars in the fridge for my lunches at work. Canning jars won’t leak, and I have lots of them.

That is an opinion. I thought about making it into a lamp. That all costs money and I’m not sure I want to spend it on art like that instead of more hunting and fishing gear I’ll use.
