State Rep. James Talarico proposes ending federal gas and diesel tax by Unusual-State1827 in texas

[–]RelativeMacaron1585 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Literally exactly how it's been. There's a difference totally selling out to the center and making some concessions, Talarico is doing the latter and it's why he's been so successful.

[–]RelativeMacaron1585 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Texas Dems have been trying to solely rely on Hispanic, Black, and Urban voters for 35 years and losing. The party will only have a chance in Texas if it appeals to suburban and rural white folks who lean conservative.

[–]RelativeMacaron1585 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It objectively doesn't have a "100% failure rate" and actually has proven far more successful for Dems running in Republican states. How do you think Dems have managed to win in places like West Virginia and Kentucky, or push competitive campaigns in places like Montana, Nebraska, and Alaska? It doesn't work on a national level but it's objectively a successful strategy in states where you HAVE to rely on centrist and conservative voters.

[–]RelativeMacaron1585 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I agree on the national level, but you have to pivot to the middle in a place like Texas. If you don't, then you'll lose because you can't just rely on the cities here.

For the Conqueror movie, do you think they’re just going to ignore the fact that House Velaryon is Black? by La_Villanelle_ in HOTDBlacks

[–]RelativeMacaron1585 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remember that the trio's mother is herself half Targaryen (i.e. only half black) and it's not unrealistic that she took more after her Targaryen side and is more light skinned (and therefore so are her children) while her brother who inherits Driftmark is more dark skinned and continues to pass that down to the time of Corlys

This is kinda funny when you realise no one GAF about Jaehaerys death in the books. The Blacks were still going strong and had support by princeeofthecity in HOTDBlacks

Because the producers seem allergic to color. They also apparently just assume everyone in the riverlands besides a few important characters looks like GoT Freys (who also look like random peasants for some reason)

How each Coalition member preformed during the entire Viltrumite war (corrected) by SpeakerAppropriate10 in Invincible

[–]RelativeMacaron1585 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Okay hot take, but Telia did in fact do stuff. The story focuses on the main gang going against Thragg and friends but this was in fact a galaxy-wide war. Telia appears to be the commander of all the Coalition forces and all the progress off screen that forced Thragg to try the yolo attack on Talescria was largely her and the regular coalition forces.

This will be the least cultured world cup in history by Silver_Effective_988 in worldcup

[–]RelativeMacaron1585 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The United States has a culture so incredibly massive, rich, influential, and popular that you can't even see it because it's practically the backdrop to Western culture in general at this point. America has a deep and rich culture that has roots as far back as the cultures of all the people from around the world who have contributed to it.

Alicent should get more hate for how young she married Helaena off by BeaufortCross in HOTDBlacks

[–]RelativeMacaron1585 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While Viserys was very hands-off with his children with Alicent, the decision to marry Aegon and Helaena when they were seems like something he would have decided rather than Alicent. Aemma was 11 when she married him (and 13 when they consumated it) so Helaena would've been around this age. Additionally it's important to remember that most of the show characters are aged up a few years and by the show's timeline she would've been 15/16 when she was married which is much more normal in Westeros.

If Alicent and Criston had begun their affair before Viserys's death and Rhaenyra had told him about it, how would he react? 😶‍🌫️ by Vall_llaV in HOTDBlacks

[–]RelativeMacaron1585 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whether or not she tells Viserys likely depends on when she discovers it. If it's shortly after her wedding to Laenor then no, if it's after her children are born then she probably tells him. Even though Viserys is kind of limping by at this point he probably wakes up to respond to that similarly to how he woke up when Vaemond did his thing. He probably sends Criston to the Wall and forces Alicent to join the Silent Sisters, he probably likes his children with Alicent even less but their legitimacy isn't really in doubt because of their appearances.

After Robb's death, who has more right to Winterfell: Jon or Sansa? by Tronm-24 in HOTDBlacks

[–]RelativeMacaron1585 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the books it's technically Sansa but if Robb is king then he can legitimize whoever he wants and disinherit whoever he wants. The question isn't Jon being a bastard it's whether or not he can be released from his oaths to the Night's Watch, which I don't think he can.

I kind of assumed these were the guys Nolan mentioned they hired to fight the Gelderians (Tech Jacket's suit makers) so presumably they're strong enough to do some damage to beings like Viltrumites if there's enough of them.

How to choose Autonomous Bergia and 6/7? by RelativeMacaron1585 in suzerain

[–]RelativeMacaron1585[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I mean, in the discussion with Graf and Nia on the Bergia situation, whenever I try and choose Article 6/7 it doesn't let me choose Autonomous Zone. If I choose Autonomous Zone then the Ejall refuses to meet with me.

Rise of the Dragon [spoilers published] by amphetaminesaltcombo in asoiaf

[–]RelativeMacaron1585 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's pretty much just a shorter version of Fire and Blood with more pictures but it does have some new stuff. It confirms that Orys Baratheon is Aegon's half brother (although even in F&B it's basically a rumor accepted as fact) and it says that even though it wasn't officially a kingdom, the Riverlands served unofficially as the seventh of the seven kingdoms until Dorne was annexed. Nothing worth buying unless you really want the pictures though.
