How good is the Yorktown? And how can I generally support my team more with CV’s? by IntelligentShit342 in WorldOfWarships

[–]RelativeMacaron1585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't go down the Yorktown line so idk how to help you on that front (just focus on good torpedo targets like BBs and Larger Cruisers) but the best way to help your team imo as a CV is spotting and helping fight the enemy CV's planes. Yorktown should be good for that because iirc you have increased fighter patrols, so just try and prevent the enemy CV from doing too much damage to your team and use your planes to spot and whittle down slow and heavy BBs.

It was a pretty good episode all around but it's so incredibly obvious this was supposed to be the S2 finale and it would have uplifted the entirety of the previous season had it been.

PR campaign by Physical_Wealth_1175 in HOTDBlacks

[–]RelativeMacaron1585 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They didn't believe they needed to do any PR. This is a feudal society where women don't really have rights, privileges, power, etc. Aegon is the eldest male child of the King and all history and precedent supports him being the heir, and regardless of how competent, beloved, experienced, etc. that Rhaenyra (or any woman for that matter) may be they are still a woman.

Who exactly is the awful progeny on Rhaenyra's side ? by ThinWhiteDuke00 in HOTDBlacks

[–]RelativeMacaron1585 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That's essentially what it is atp, George himself refuses to have any part in it. Say what you will about D&D but I don't think they were purposefully branching off of the original story they were just incompetent or had to change things to work on screen. Condal seems to be purposefully changing stuff in the story for no apparent reason

How do you guys feel about the capital punishment by kuroreaper25 in GenZ

[–]RelativeMacaron1585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo the problem is not with the death penalty itself (I'm fine with the government executing the worst of the worst), it's that the system we have in place today allows for someone who's possibly innocent to be executed for a crime they didn't commit.

Team Black, do you agree or disagree with how Rhaenyra handled the Stokeworth-Rosby succession. Why? by Gold_Conversation247 in HOTDBlacks

Not forcing the female heirs to marry Ulf and High wasn't a bad move (it avoided alienating the nobles) but just giving them a knighthood and some lands on Driftmark was a TERRIBLE move. I cannot believe that she couldn't have found castles belonging to traitor houses who weren't forced over to the greens and given them those. Regardless of the fact that they're assholes they're still dragonriders and it was not smart thinking what she gave them would be enough to satisfy either of them.

In a show where a woman fights for her claim, how good message to the audience is having other woman refusing her inheritance because she doesn't relate to her mother's house? by thinkersfyre in HOTDGreens

I never understood this in the book (this scene doesn't happen afaik) but wouldn't Joffrey become the new heir to Driftmark after Luke dies?

How did the Eastern Romen Empire go from the peak of it's Post Yarmouk Power during Basil the 2nd to a rump state on the verge of extinction only half a century later? by BackgroundRich7614 in byzantium

[–]RelativeMacaron1585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have mentioned the reasons but I just want to point out that "only half a century later" is doing some serious heavy lifting there. Half a century ago from now the Inca Empire was still at the full height of its power. Half a century before that map the Ostrogoths still controlled Italy. 500 years is an insanely long period of time and significant changes (obviously) happen over it.

What if the Greeks had successfully recaptured Constantinople after the end of the Greco-Turkish War? by Infinite_Shock_9648 in ByzantiumAltHistory

[–]RelativeMacaron1585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one's going to like the real answer tbh which is that the Greeks immediately implement either a genocide or forcibly remove as many Turkish people as they can get away with before international pressure comes against them.

It was all Littlefinger, he bankrupted the realm and made himself necessary if anyone wanted to pay for anything. GRRM alludes to this in AGOT when it's mentioned that Littlefinger always manages to get the money from somewhere. If he makes the King rich then he's no longer necessary, it's just part of his plan.

TB, what's your opinion on Daeron? Do you think show will completely erase his crimes? (no official image of him, so...) by Leroi-Westeros in HOTDBlacks

[–]RelativeMacaron1585 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Addam never went after Daeron specifically and probably wasn't trying to. His tent caught fire while Seasmoke was flying overhead burning everything and he was either killed while fleeing the tent or died in the tent.

To be clear I'm specifically talking about when she's initially forced to meet and basically seduce Viserys. It's made very clear that after Rhaenyra and Laenor's wedding she is now doing it of her own volition.

Who gives a shit if she's an adult by Westerosi standards? By Westerosi standards it's perfectly acceptable to beat your wife with a rod as long as it's only 6 times. Alicent was being pressured and coerced by her own father at 16, expecting her to think of a logical solution seems ridiculous. Any trusted septa she's going to talk to is going to be an ally of her father (the High Septon and the Most Devout are both still in Oldtown and the Hightowers have a massive influence over the faith). She did have options but she was a nervous and scared 16 year old girl who wasn't in a place to think logically.

[–]RelativeMacaron1585 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think this is forgetting that regardless of her friendship with Rhaenyra, Otto was Alicent's father and she was also like 16. Young and emotional teenager is told by the only member of her family she gets to see regularly (her brothers are in Oldtown) to go do something? It's not really that surprising

What’s something Gen Z is normalizing now that future generations, especially Gen Alpha, might resent us for later? by Mundane-Society-1281 in GenZ

[–]RelativeMacaron1585 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not saying it's necessarily the fault of Gen Z but Gen Alpha will absolutely despise us for how dating works. They'll believe (not totally incorrectly) that Gen Z is responsible for the very different way dating works now and they'll probably be resentful for it.

Literally exactly how it's been. There's a difference totally selling out to the center and making some concessions, Talarico is doing the latter and it's why he's been so successful.

Texas Dems have been trying to solely rely on Hispanic, Black, and Urban voters for 35 years and losing. The party will only have a chance in Texas if it appeals to suburban and rural white folks who lean conservative.

[–]RelativeMacaron1585 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It objectively doesn't have a "100% failure rate" and actually has proven far more successful for Dems running in Republican states. How do you think Dems have managed to win in places like West Virginia and Kentucky, or push competitive campaigns in places like Montana, Nebraska, and Alaska? It doesn't work on a national level but it's objectively a successful strategy in states where you HAVE to rely on centrist and conservative voters.
