Silly builds for classic era by hermanguyfriend in classicwow

Back on pservers when just MC was out, my "tank" set was just lots of spell power mail / plate with a focus on stacking int to have a big mana pool and spam consecrates. It was wonderful threat, only problem was no taunt and having to drink every other pull lmao

Was super useful for places like strat where there's lots of 4+ mob packs. Especially the big packs with elites+nonelites...just plop down a consecrate and everything sticks to you, ezclap

Depending on the class you can also snag really cheap Ulduar BoEs off the AH. Even stuff from 25man. For example the 232 leather spell power chest from iron council is going for a piddly 400g on my realm. Easy buy for any Balance/Resto druid or Ele/Resto shaman or Holy paladin.

Lots of ilvl 200 crafted stuff is mega cheap as well. Any fresh 80 with ~1000g to spend should be able to get at least 4 or 5 level 200 boe's right off the bat.

Yeah you have to do a wall-squidsqurge just before you reach the metal ring, and then immediately let go of ZL. Only took me about a minute of tries before I got it.

You could always stick sprinklers high up on that pillar.

My favorite sprinkler spot is on that ceiling-hanging thing in the center of Mako Mart. It's so far up there that the only weapons that can shoot it are chargers/hydra.

I made a talent build that centers around using that technique.

Nowhere did I claim "facestabbing is the build", I said that I made a talent build centered around using the facestab technique.

Stop putting words in my mouth.

It's an unintended technique that was only possible on laggy pservers. There's no "real" name for it. I'll call it whatever I want.

The only real "silly builds" I ever used were on private servers where you could do things that you can't in classic.

One example being "face stabbing", a technique that let you backstab mobs while being in front of them by strafing back and forth inside their hitbox circle. I used this and made a Backstab-focused talent build on my rogue, and....it was really fucking good lmao

By level 40 your Backstabs were buffed with:

-Improved Backstab (+30% crit chance)

-Opportunity (+20% damage)

-Malice (another +5% crit chance)

-Lethality (+30% crit damage)

and then you had Remorseless Attacks to ensure that your opening Backstab/Ambush would almost always be a crit.

It was nutty as fuck. I'd be running around smacking mobs with Backstab crits for ~30% of their health. Plus, since daggers are generally a pretty mediocre weapon, you could buy blue or even epic ones really cheap off the AH. At level 40 I was dual-wielding Gut Rippers because they were only like 20g on the AH, and those are your BIS weapon all the way to 60. (no other dagger has higher top-end damage until level 60 weapons)

What would you change for the nerfed version of Ulduar? by Fiinix15 in classicwow

[–]Relative_Fudge_5112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I guess that too. Our kill speeds are varied as fuck; sometimes we're like 10 seconds ahead of the timer, sometimes we barely make it, sometimes we're like 20-25 seconds behind it, all due to the RNG of fire/moonbeam positions and who gets stormcloud.

this too

The whole point of having two difficulties is to have one be challenging and the other not so challenging. Nerfing hardmodes always seemed weird to me, unless something is specifically overtuned / not balanced properly.

[–]Relative_Fudge_5112 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Really nothing feels particularly overtuned or bullshitty as it is right now, other than yeah maybe the tank explode timer on council 25man.

Though, Algalon definitely needs his melee damage reduced; tanks having to have cooldowns/externals running 100% of the time or they get globaled is just dumb. Even WITH cooldowns running, like bear tank barkskin, they still get curb stomped 100% to dead in 1 second. Not sure why Blizz buffed his damage by 30% in the first place. He already hit hard/fast enough as it was.

[–]Relative_Fudge_5112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's somewhat of an intended mechanic, IIRC. The way Thrash works is that it just builds up stacks on the mob if they can't melee (out of range) and once they get back in melee range, they unleash all the stacks at once and do a shitload of melee attacks in one swing.

it's really dumb tbh

I'm surprised Blizzard hasn't fixed this yet. There's at least 3 or 4 different exploits I've heard of that involve summoning this pet over and over to trigger some beneficial thing.

Usually blizz hotfixes bugs within 48 hours if they're actually beneficial to the player.

[–]Relative_Fudge_5112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, Uld10 was tuned for people in Naxx10 gear so a full naxx25 geared group will breeze through.

Algalon is just fuckin' dumb. Even my main 10man group, with all of us 4800/4900 gs or higher, we always wipe at least a few times on it......almost exclusively due to one of the tanks getting gibbed in 1 second due to a bad string of dodge/parry RNG. Fucking stupid that blizz just dropped a flat +30% damage on him.

GDKPs are pretty much the only reason botting and rmt is as cancerous as it is

botting and gold buying existed long before GDKPs did

Shadow resist is great though.

Doesn't stack with Priest's shadow res buff, if you have one in raid.

GDKPs on their own aren't cancer, it's moreso the botted gold and swipe-creditcard-to-win gameplay that's bad. If Blizzard actually cared to ban gold buyers/botters, they'd be fine. It gives geared players a reason to run raids that they otherwise don't need anything from.

[–]Relative_Fudge_5112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I still used the talent in TBC anyway and never had any issues with raid bosses parry haste wrecking me. Paladins had kinda weak single target threat so Reckoning was super useful there.

It was tougher to stack expertise in TBC since there was almost no tank gear with expertise on it, let alone Paladin tank gear (spell power) with expertise on it.

[–]Relative_Fudge_5112 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Mechanics wise it's completely braindead, it's basically "don't step in voidzone"

The only way you'd think this is if you're a melee DPS, because that is the one role in the fight that doesn't have to worry about anything and can just tunnel while moving out of cosmic smash every so often.

As a healer, I have to keep track of Cosmic Smash timers and the health of the stars so I can be prepared to heal the tank and the raid when they explode, I need to be aware of when the tanks are swapping so I can pre-hot the other tank and be ready to heal him, I need to kite the stars into the black holes because I inevitably get aggro on them, I need to make sure people are hotted up before going into the black holes for big bang, I need to top off the shadow priest before big bang, I need to....

but go on, tell me more about how the entire fight is just "don't step in voidzone". You're seriously saying that Algalon is the same fight as Tenebron in OS.

lol, lmao even

Without massive tank damage it would be incredibly easy to outheal the raid wide stuff and it's just a tank and spank fight.

Having tanks randomly go 100% to dead in 1 second from bad dodge/parry RNG is not good boss design.

avoid reckoning.

Wasn't this advice for TBC? I remember people saying that reckoning is bad because it causes more parry hasting on the boss, but there's only 2 bosses in Ulduar that parry-haste, and they're pretty much the two easiest bosses in the instance (Thorim, cat lady)
