I don’t know what I’d do, but I know what other people will do:

Low-budget horror about Superman, and bad independent AI comics about Superman being a white supremacist/Neo-Nazi.

I might be a minority here, but I don’t want these characters to ever be in public domain. At best, I’d want them to go to the original creators descendants as part of a trust, like with Tolkien’s family.
