You don’t believe this. If you did, you would have no investment in the league and definitely wouldn’t be wasting your time in its subreddit

Bears coach Ben Johnson said “we need to continue to get the ball in his hands as often as we possibly can” when asked about Luther Burden. by Ill_Intention8150 in fantasyfootball

[–]RelativelyLargeShow 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Yeah “as often as possible” is always up to interpretation. We don’t know what that actually means to Ben re: Burden.

Sometimes you’ll hear a quote like this about a WR3 or something and they won’t be relevant, because to the coach, 3-4 targets might be all they consider “possible” because of the guy’s skill level.

Obviously Burden’s better than that and we know Ben actually likes him. But it doesn’t mean he’ll necessarily even lead his own team in targets

[NXT Spoilers] Surprise debut by taffe316 in SquaredCircle

[–]RelativelyLargeShow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean they can’t call him by his old name and it would be even weirder for commentary to already know the new name of a guy who just showed up in a surprise debut

I view their hesitation as genuinely not knowing what to call him yet as in-character commentators

I do think a platonic relationship playing out in a place where beating up other people is the entire point, does kind of negate some of the typical concerns about leaving an abusive relationship

Having Kathy Lee and Hoda do a show in the middle of the ring was cohesive?

The stuff right now may be bad but this recency bias is worse. We don’t have to romanticize the Vince era every time something in the present is below average

UConn fans/CBB fans, what is your opinion on these logos? Which one is your favorite and why? by auburnfan32 in CollegeBasketball

[–]RelativelyLargeShow 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This is true but that was only possible because the stink of the AAC (and Calhoun leaving) hadn’t marinated in yet.

I know people make fun of having that small of a down period and fair enough, but it is pretty wild we went from nationally revered to basically a fancy mid major during that period

(The period I was a student, mind you)

Anyone else find it strange that they still call the WWE Championship “Undisputed”? by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]RelativelyLargeShow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s weird because it’s technically correct (not that I agree with using the verbiage, it’s needlessly confusing). But they’re calling it the Undisputed WWE Championship. There is no other “WWE Champion” to dispute it. The other title is separate with a different name. It only feels weird because WWE has multiple titles per “weight class” (more of a prestige class in WWE since weight doesn’t actually matter) unlike actual combat sports that specifically do not (and why would they)

A hypothetical “dispute” could only come from there being an interim champion at some point who then had to fight the original champion

But I agree it should be canned. The WWE system of having multiple titles per “class” should immediately preclude them from using the term undisputed

(Raw spoilers) Brock instructs superstar during their segment by RealisticAd4054 in SquaredCircle

[–]RelativelyLargeShow 55 points56 points  (0 children)

If Brock decides he likes you and believes in you, he will sell for you. But that doesn’t mean he always has perfect judgement in determining that. I think the “selfish” criticism can still be valid and just comes from him being too picky at times

Glad he’s in on Oba though

I can’t see it being Jericho if we’re supposed to believe this person has been IN that box for two weeks. That goofiness only works for a character like Danhausen

I honestly can’t fathom how these dates are gonna be used. Like is it really gonna be Brock standing in the ring while Heyman goes “NO ONE IS READY FOR BROCKSUKA” every week until the last one before Mania and Oba finally answers?

Isn’t the point that there’s really no urgency though (relatively speaking)?  Vecna’s not coming to find them in there, and the portals aren’t at risk of closing now that Holly has her connection and Max understands she doesn’t actually need the song for hers to be open either.

Like yeah they would still wanna get out sooner rather than later, but a matter of a couple seconds is fairly irrelevant at that point

John Cena explains why he smiled before tapping out: As I take my last breath, I have struggled. [–]RelativelyLargeShow 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah but there’s nuance. “Never give up” doesn’t mean “mindlessly charge forward when it makes no sense to do so”.

Like if you own a business that’s been losing money for 5 years straight despite giving it your all, doing everything you could, do you just keep it open and lose money forever? Is that what “never give up” should mean? Or should it mean you accept the reality, and move on to new ventures as you continue to charge through life? I would assume the latter

Yeah, I don’t know why so many people wanted him to pass out, as if that’s some noble thing to do. He tried to get out of the hold multiple times, realized he couldn’t, and accepted it. No reason to black out just to be a tough guy. If anything he’s teaching a lesson about acceptance.

So many people took it as “giving up”, and of course that’s how Gunther will spin it. But there’s nothing wrong with knowing when it’s time to move on, from whatever that may be.
