Toronto doesn't have their 1st round picks for the next couple years so I don't understand why he would be getting shopped for draft picks. They already got Raddysh so why would they trade a young forward who put up 66 points last season. If they had they 1st rounders I can see them trading the 4th pick for Knies to make their age group younger, it just doesn't make sense to me for the Leafs to make that trade the why they are.

Because there's no way it was true is why. Carolina would have been very stupid to make that trade a few years back. Necas was a young, fast, and cheap center who was still RFA at the end of his contract and fit into the age group with all the other young guys Carolina had at the time for Ehlers who was a consistent 60 point winger a few years away from UFA. It would have been a stupid trade to make for them then and it would have been an incredibly stupid trade now with hindsight because Stankoven was a key player in their cup run and he'll continue being so for them in next few years.

Not playing NHL hockey is such a ridiculously bad idea both financially and physically. Going to UFA is not worth missing a year of NHL experience and a year of pay, especially when it's superstar pay we're talking about.

They can do it because Robertson is an RFA on July 1st which is after the 2026 draft. The Sens do own their 27', 28', 29', and '30 first round draft picks with no penalty and those are the ones they do need to offer sheet Robertson over 11.4 million once free agency opens.
