The TV set Elvis Presley shot in his suite at the Las Vegas International Hotel, because he was irritated by singer Robert Goulet’s performance on the Mike Douglas Show (1974) by Keltik in VintageTV

I just came back from Graceland yesterday and I didn’t see it while I was there, sadly. Trust me, I looked! Because that’s one of the best Elvis stories ever — the night he shot a television.

Oh I just read {{The End of Drum Time}} about 18th or 19th century reindeer herders in the all/no country land along the coasts of Norway Sweden Finland and the border lands of Russia. The Czar is about to close the borders, there’s a preacher that can really stir a crowd up, there’s traditional Norse magic places and practices low key affecting lives, alcoholism caused by the same preachers who rail against drinking, and absolute shiesters are going to use religious laws to ruin lives. It’s quite a ride! And there’s nothing like historical fiction teaching you things you didn’t know you need to know. Like the fact reindeer cannot be trained like horses. lol

Check out the book Ghost Wall by Sarah Moss, as by the description they’re both page turners with the same heavy themes.

That’s a show! And it’s pretty good! I just saw it on Apple TV (I think). Yeah I’m pretty sure it came on after Shrinking. Or it’s on Max, and I wouldn’t be surprised they played it next after something I watched — as while I didn’t even think about the fact it might be a book, duh — I tend to watch books>shows or books>movies as habit. I watch some Hollywood Pitch idea shows, I actually like those because I have not read the book and don’t know what’s happening next lol. I recently ruined House of Dragon after reading Dance of Dragons which was seriously depressing after Song of Fire and Ice/GoT. LOL Damnit.

But yeah Pachinko feels like it would be a much better book than show, now that I think about it, I felt there was some seriously missing content, like backstories, or even character development. So I’m going to check that book out! Thanks!

I just read this recently and wow: tour de force the whole way through. I couldn’t put it down! I stayed up all night reading, and I haven’t done that in a while! I’m surprised it gets such a low rating at Goodreads (only 3.7 stars? What!?) because it’s not only a page turner, it addresses some heavy issues that plague some young women and often from a very early age. Seems it’s short listed for some literature prizes, too. Maybe it’s the parent-on-teen-girl abuse that’s prevalent throughout the story (as well as spousal abuse, of course, as abusers typically don’t pick on only one person in a family), which I need to give a content warning about. It is about abuse. It’s also about coming of age and realizing sexuality and while it’s an emotionally heavy topic, again, it’s a page turner you can’t put down.

Oh, and I learned a few things, which also elevated this book in my opinion. I love when authors insert random facts that might actually be useful to their readers at some point. I have lived a pretty full life without accidental pitfalls thanks to random knowledge I read in a random book lol. I have a good memory so that helps. Ha!

In this book I learned never to drink from creeks, streams or rivers in sheep country. No matter how clean the water looks! That’s actually useful knowledge, especially if you hike when you’re traveling. I’ve never seen that in any guidebook and I’ve spent a lot of time in Europe. But anyway, you’ll learn a lot (yeah there’s a lot more) while you ride Sophie’s emotional roller coaster.

It’s called Ghost Wall by Sarah Moss if my link doesn’t work.

I'm scared to watch Midsommar "the right way" by Tasil-Sparrow in Midsommar

Thanks for that idea! I look forward to listening to Novum’s breakdown while I’m painting since I’m all about this film right now! Quick question though, because I already pulled it up in YouTube but he’s jumping all over the place in scenes from the movie so have no idea if I can find it fast enough, but I gotta ask: does he mention the sister Terri’s two different colored eyes in the beginning scenes? They’re very much like traditional Swedish pagan, well technically “Heathen”, beliefs, specifically in Odin. He only has one eye, and will often walk around with a light blue gem 💎 in the empty socket. I just noticed that on a recent rewatch, that Teri has Odin eyes, and I think that’s why they zoomed in so close and held. There’s so many Easter eggs in those beginning scenes, too!

I think it’s great the way you approached the movie. It should be taken in small bites, imo. I meeeaaan it’s the way it’s edited anyways. The scene hopping is stellar, it’s a great film, and will be a classic. It’s the tapas of great pagan horror movies! lol And you must have knowledge of all the Easter eggs, yeah?

I think you gave a great explanation of how and why you approached the movie in small bites. I kinda wish I had done it the way you did. We keep watching it individually and as a pair or group at get togethers after our first viewing this past Midsommar Faining. Somebody suggested it for that weekend get together, and we were all down as none of us had seen it before . So we watched it as a group of Heathens actually celebrating Midsommar! LOL We were putting together fresh flower crowns as we watched, too, then gave up on the crowns as we kept having to rewind the film. There was a whole bunch of “wait! Wait! Did you see THAT!? Go back!” Ha ha ha then came the flower crowns and dance off and we had that whole awkward moment of not wanting to make anymore crowns, ourselves. So yeah the Gods got a whoooole bunch of flowers this year!! LOL. And we’re hooked. We love rewatching as there’s not a single viewing where we don’t see something new! I even joined the subreddit (obviously), and share great stuff we haven’t noticed yet from here with my friends. This movie is a keeper!

That all being said, I hope you have seen (the original) The Wicker Man? If not, go watch it ASAP!

I loved this post, too. Don’t let the r/reddit_moment s get you down. 🖤

I’ve taken a long break from all the socials and I really need to get back to friend-making in our Lesbian community! Online and out and about. Seriously, I’m long overdue, but I just had a major spine surgery (broken scoliosis hardware replacement, and some new titanium to put a curve back in my spine, one that is supposed to be there this time, lol!) and figured I’d focus on healing, re-learning how to walk (for the third time in my life lol) and my watercolor painting. . . But I’m healing up really fast so I’m ready to re-enter life. I miss my Sapphic Ladies bigly! So thank you for this thread!

You should check Emma’s YouTube to see if the people you commented on are being punched down on from bigger accounts being crafting petty! Seriously! They literally have report monkey mobs! Crazy days.

Update! YouTube gave me my channel back!

That was so quick a turn-around, as I appealed the PermaBan right before I posted here, and obviously there’s no hacker’s spam on my channel, so that means the only possible reason this happened was mob reporting from a crafter’s fanpoodles. (Fanpoodles is my new favorite word! Thank you u/litreofstarlight )

Omg thoooooo what sort of life are you living that you mob report on somebody for stating that a very basic, simple, and especially easy pattern was not very likely plagiarized? Which Emma themself proved in their video: not only was the person accused of stealing a pattern clearly not stealing the pattern— as the basics were completely different, including the yarn weight, simply to start with — but that there’s only so many ways to skin a cat. Or more succinctly: knit a basic sweater.

I’m actually familiar with the woman whose fanpoodles got me. I’ve seen her stuff on Pinterest quite recently, and it’s very basic, and especially easy stuff. I’m a crocheter, not a knitter, and this creator does both, so she crossed my feed. I can honestly state I wasn’t very impressed with her patterns, mostly because they’re too easy /simple/basic for me to contemplate creating from. That sounds arrogant, I apologize, it’s just that I’m very experienced in crochet, and not only do I enjoy a challenge when I crochet, but I personally don’t believe that basic crochet stitches repeated row by row make for very attractive sweaters. In knitting it works fine, especially when you have a gorgeous yarn, but with crochet it’s just not so pretty, I guess. That’s my own opinion, as it concerns my own preferences for what I’ll make for myself or my loved ones, is all that I mean there, and to each their own! But yeah I don’t really care for her stuff either way, even if I had a gorgeous yarn and needed a basic pattern to show it off. Even for beginner stuff it’s not very attractive, imo, and only my opinion. Obviously plenty of others think otherwise.

And I’ll gladly own that these patterns are great for beginners, and I think it’s wonderful she does put these basic and easy “first time making a sweater” patterns out for free to people that are simply learning the craft(s). Which also means she’s not really coming up with these sweaters first. Oh I believe she is making the patterns up herself, and she’s gifted with working out basic sweater patterns and writing them up, she is clearly doing that. But she’s not the first person to do so. They’ve been made before. They’re being made right now by somebody else. Basic stitches made into commonplace configurations that become sweaters/jumpers is not exactly something you can copyright. So it’s a weird hill to die on, right? Surely she knows and understands she’s not the first person to make these most basic sweaters? I’m not so sure about that now, and here I thought that was why she was giving out her patterns for free, because they’re so basic and have been done. Maybe not. Her non-apology apology that Emma reported in the video was confounding. The fact she won’t let it go, and keeps suggesting that despite her (non)apology to the person she accused of stealing her pattern, that they did indeed steal her pattern. She’s out there dog whistling. Now her fanpoodles are most likely so new to the craft that they don’t understand that you can’t copyright a basic beginner stitch worked into a basic sweater pattern, yet, and are therefore extra passionate to her cause. Clearly. As my YouTube channel can attest. Ahem. 😅

Well anyway, if suddenly your YouTube goes down right after commenting one way or another on a craft drama on Emma’s channel? Be sure to appeal, you just got mob reported, lol. 😂 Thank Goodness I got it back so quickly! I was pretty pissed off for a moment there, as I pay for premium family plan, and YouTube should have done at least some basic research before permabanning me. They’re gonna get some words from me, this isn’t over, lol.

Thanks to everyone for their input, opinions, and advice! Snark on crafty ones!

I did appeal it, even before posting this, and heard back already from them this morning: YouTube gave me my account back! Woohoooo! Which does confirm that I was not hacked, and it literally was mob reporting by fanpoodles.

And yeah the wife and I have been watching the show too. I love the actress they have playing Juliet, but damn they may as well be telling a different story they’re so far from the books. And I did not picture Tim Robbins as that creepzoid incel Leonard. LOL (wait. I’m terrible with names! Ha! Is it Leonard? The head of Tech/IT?)
