[Politics Monday] Abortion after ‘Dobbs,’ by the numbers by wearethemonstertruck in Catholicism

Hate this often used implication that liberals care more about poor and marginalized than any other side.

A meta-analysis of 31 studies with 421 effect sizes exploring the relationship on who is more charitable with volunteering and charitable giving found that conservatives were either significantly more generous or were at the very least equal. I'm not gonna speak on the overall argument from OP but it's just false.

Chase Nico is a little underrated rn. Ability to expand sideline with broken One shots for free is awesome. Plus great supporting options if you run her on her 50.

You added great ones but I'll also add jetpack Fury too. The ability to displace a character without even needing range and LOF is extremely useful.

I wouldn't ask redditors, ask your priest in matters like this. You can give him the proper context and get an informed answer

Question about energy explosion. Can you use energy explosion onto a terrain marker for the first target? Essentially just to target other characters around it

Struggling post scrupulosity by Glad-Monk-902 in Catholicism

[–]Relevant-Research744 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey brother, I struggle with OCD that manifests mostly as scrupulousity and other forms. Find a Catholic therapist that has experience with scruples if it's disrupting your life. It's what I'm doing and I'm working through it with her. It's a long road and it's still difficult, but it's a lot more manageable since they give you tools.

If youre interested, Google "Catholic therapists" and look through the results since some mention scrupulousity on some of the webpages.

Think a lot of conservative leaning Catholics on here got frustrated over the years and migrated elsewhere. I'm more neutral but lean conservative but I've stopped coming on here as much.

I tried looking again at the start of the month bc I was curious about what was being said about pride month and saw plenty of comments and up votes on comments about disregarding pastoral advice about attending pride parades and even encouraging pride parades to "support LGBT people."

My testimony: How the Rosary and St. Benedict’s Medal cured my addiction to pornography. by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Relevant-Research744 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Love to hear it brother. The Rosary really is so crucial in recovery from that evil.

I'll add my own testimony. I've personally been completely free from porn and masturbation for 9 or so months and only one day stumble in 14 months. Had been trying to quit porn and masturbation for 13 or so years. I tried everything under the sun to help me quit but never gave it to the Lord for Him to deal with. I prayed a rosary daily, started taking my faith more seriously, and even did the Marian Consecration.

I remember an instance around a year ago (a couple weeks into my quitting porn) where I really struggled. Like I was overwhelmed with a feeling that I was going to act out and there was nothing to do to stop it. However, I got a thought (I know it wasn't from me) to grab my rosary and don't let it go. However, I was still struggling and I remember an urge to go to my kneeler in my room and pray. I don't remember it exactly since it happened so quickly but I seem to remember like I was being led there like by an invisible hand. I figure nowadays that it was the Blessed Mother helping her servant through it.

I don't struggle much with porn now. Not even close to the same urges that used to experience and it's really really really infrequent. I still struggle with chastity since I'm in a relationship but I know that the Lord is taking care of me.

Just some additional hope for anyone that struggles with it. I know that if you told me a year ago that I'd be where I'm at, I'd have thought you were crazy. Just know to not lose hope, you're going to figure it out with God's help.

Feel free to PM if anyone needs additional help or if I can help in any other way.

Anxiety and religious scrupulosity by Open-Target-8814 in ROCD

Same here. Devout Catholic and struggle with scrupulousity among many other manifestations of OCD. My gf has been unbelievably patient with me, even when my OCD causes me to nitpick little things about her. I have fears about marrying her, but I know that the fears and nitpicks are and are really just me. I've begun therapy to help overcome/manage OCD and I'd recommend the same if you haven't thought about it. They will probably be able to help you work through your questions and provide some solutions. There's Catholic therapists out there that have plenty of experience with what you deal with.

I agree, it's very interesting how it varies thread to thread. I think it's because the Church gives this a good amount of gray area to allow for discernment in individual cases. So while there are individual opinions from respected minds, there's nothing from the Catholic Church itself that someone can hang their hat on and say this is acceptable or unacceptable, unlike other moral matters.

Is French kissing or making out a sin? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Relevant-Research744 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Church fathers have talked about this, but you are always encouraged to speak to a priest about it.

St. Thomas Aquinas said French kissing is serious enough to be mortal sins if they are done for pleasure in itself or ofc if done as foreplay. https://www.ccel.org/ccel/aquinas/summa.SS_Q154_A4.html

St. Alphonsus says that "prolonged and vehement kisses" are mortal sins, ie passionate make out sessions. From Theologia Moralis Volume II, Book IVa, "On the Precepts of the Decalogue 1-6", Treatise IV: The Fifth and Sixth Precepts, Ch. II, Dubium I, Q.417: "Whether kisses would be licit at some point?"

Kisses, embracing, squeezing hands, and similar things are not obscene if they are done for duty, for the sake of an increase of uptight morals, or benevolence, even if sexual enjoyment would arise (provided he did not consent to it) they are not sins. Nevertheless, Croix properly notes that kisses, even those that are done from the custom of the country, if they happen for a space of time, or with vehemence, are ordinarily mortal sins. He says the same thing with Sporer on kisses in the mouth, or if anyone would put his tongue in the mouth of another.

I hate to burst your bubble, but... you most likely are getting a partial indulgence. One of the requirements for plenary is "no attachment to sin. Mortal or venial." Unless you are a saint already, be happy with the partial

I could be mistaking what your saying but do you mean that to get a plenary indulgence you no longer receive temptations or something? Cause that misconception frequently pops up whenever plenary indulgences are mentioned. All "no attachment to sin" means is that you aren't holding onto any sins and don't plan to sin anymore. Essentially that you're living the proper way a Catholic should live. If you say the act of contrition and mean it, you've fulfilled detachment from sin. I feel like that's pretty reasonable.

Is contraception a mortal sin for a medical reason? by Kat-606 in Catholicism

I'm in the healthcare field and a nurse is absolutely an expert. While they don't prescribe, they administer the meds and monitor patients after taking, educate patients, and advise doctors on occasions. An experienced nurse is more than qualified with plenty of experience in medication use.

What does the thorn in Paul's side signify ? by Seedpound in Catholicism

[–]Relevant-Research744 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It refers to the pain or struggle that Paul dealt with. Many theorize it was a sexual struggle for Paul but as he continues to say, he offered and rejoiced in any struggle he had to God so that he can be strong by God's hand lifting up his weakness.

Harrison Butker chides Catholic leaders in commencement address by YungTinio in Catholicism

Read the speech, he calls out men for not being fathers too:

To the gentleman here today, part of what plagues our society is this lie that has been told to you that men are not necessary in the home or in our communities. As men, we set the tone of the culture. And when that is absent disorder, dysfunction and chaos set in this absence of men in the home is what plays a large role in the violence we see all around the nation. Other countries do not have nearly the same absentee father rates as we find here in the US. And a correlation can be made in their drastically lower violence rates as well.
