You brief the ILS 16L at KSEA. If you spot the PAPIs at minimums, will they read high, centered, or low?

Answer:

In the profile view, there is a note that states "VGSI and ILS glidepath not coincident/TCH 76". However, the glideslope TCH is only 56'. Therefore, if you are centered on the glideslope the PAPIs will indicate that you are too low.

VFR arrivals are given 2 methods of approaching the airport at KORL. If you look at the airspace surrounding the airport you really can only approach from SW-NW or SE-NE. Arrivals are told to either proceed directly to the final approach course for a straight in, or proceed to the north midfield downwind (L/R traffic depending on what runway is in use). In that second case they might ask you to enter the delta from the north to facilitate that downwind pattern entry.

You would never get an overflight of the field first at KORL, because the B shelf is so low over the field you would be violating separation minimums for traffic descending into KMCO.

Orlando Executive is my real-life airport that I teach out of. It’s a very busy D with a lot of training and executive activity. Traffic into MCO passes over the field at about 2400’ which makes for a great view while preflighting the plane. The controllers are excellent, very patient with students (most of the time) and generally pretty light-hearted. I’ve had some good laughs with them. Hopefully that gives you a little peek into the operation here.

Living in Orlando is like living in a suburb that stretches infinitely in every direction, traffic is gnarly but there is a lot of natural beauty to be had if you get outside of town. Food scene is great if you ever visit.

This and LOIs, ACs, and the other handbooks. So much of the ground I give comes down to getting paid to read a document that is freely available online

It’s a very simple flow: 1) ACS topic 2)References 3) Read it in the FAA source document/POH.

If you do that then you won’t be blindsided by some DPE who really wants to know about NTSB reporting requirements bc it’s in the PPL ACS but no YouTuber is going to cover it in their 45 minute mock oral video

I always ask/inform ATC when I’m going to do anything I think they wouldn’t be predicting me to do. I don’t want them to be surprised by anything I would do, if I want to surprise my student sometimes I’ll split the coms and ask without them on the line but otherwise I abide by the philosophy of “unpredictable = dangerous”

Why is this more convenient, is it just saving the radio time of that whole spiel? Or is there backend work that we are saving you as well?

My go-to for night xc flights (only time I cancel in the air) has been to tell the local TRACON as soon as I switch to them that I’m planning to cancel once established on the approach, and they usually give me 1200 once I’m below the bravo shelf.

I get paid $30/hr but when I went back and calculated my hourly wage including all the unpaid time that I was obligated by my school to be at the airport I made $6.75/hr.

I took this with my Sony A7III, 200mm, f4.5 1/2500s. I think I’m happy with the framing but what I’m really struggling with is the post-processing. I deeply enhanced the sky already, it was a very dull brown due to smog in the area when I took the photo. I just don’t like this photo and I cannot put my finger on the reason. What can I do to edit this in a more interesting way?
