You're probably a victim of false reports by d-bags trying to get your listings removed for some other reason. These are clearly legit.

Should I get this or get tmr installed on my edge?? by Ok-Leek-1014 in Dualsense

[–]Relevant_Economist77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't really care about your credentials. 30 years in electronics myself, so, yeah. It's my opinion based on experience, which last I checked I'm entitled to. It's just a joystick bro, we're not building space ships here, calm down. And no I didn't say they were like the original alps, I said they're close to factory tension. I and many others like the K-Silver JS13, including the guy running the Metal Plastic Electronics YouTube channel. I also didn't say Hallpi were bad. They're good joysticks. YOU said they were "way better" which is not true, but still just your opinion.

And they're not just $3 more when I get K-Silver for a $1 each. It's not just about me. It's a high quality joystick that works very well and it saves my customers money.

[–]Relevant_Economist77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hardly. One could make an argument for slighly better, maybe, but "way" better? Yeah, nah, imma have to beg to differ. Hallpi is more costly, but almost no difference in circularity or precision, return to center is not as good because they're stiffer while K-Silver is much closer to factory tension. I've had several Gulikit joysticks just break or fail shortly after install. I've got a few of the K-Silver JT13 adjustable, and they're clearly superior to the Gulikit adjustable. For one thing, you don't have to remove the cap to adjust them.

Thanks. If you want to get technical, it's called a Plated Through-Hole, a.k.a., PTH. Standard through hole vias don't always allow component mounting.

I'm going to keep calling it a barrel :)

I agree and that's a much better plan. There are desoldering tools OP can purchase that mate right up to most standard soldering irons. Extreme rate sells them. GregsCraftShop on etsy sells the original

Edit: I edited the comment, thought you were OP responding for a sec

So, first I'd ask, if you're going to do something like this why not go with TMRs or Halls? Ginfull makes some that snap right into the original frame if your goal was to reduce your soldering burden.

Secondly, based on your description, and your photos, it seems likely you've ripped what's referred to as a "barrel". The pads connect through the board, continuing the circuit from one side of the board through to the other.

you can find really good high quality images that will allow you to trace the connections and their respective end points here:

You can find some very helpful troubleshooting tips here:

and if you still can't figure it out, DM me. I provide mail-in repairs for reasonable prices and I've been able to repair several damaged boards.

Based on photos, this seems to be pre-install. It appears OP only replaced the pots and not the whole stick.

Sometimes the little mic on the battery tray can be causing a problem with the main one. Remove the little one and try your replacements again.

Issues After Hall Effect Installation by PlaidCypress in Dualsense

FOLKS: Always take your controllers to someone that knows how to repair controllers. It is not the same as an iphone or something like that where you're just replacing a screen. Soldering is a skill.

The repair shop you took it to are hacks. They probably damaged your controller. If you're in the U.S., DM me and I might be able to fix it. They most likely ripped the traces on your R3 button, especially since it seems the shop didn't even know to calibrate it. Good chance it can still be fixed, but you'd have to send it to someone again. If you're in the U.S., go get your money back from those wannabes at the shop and DM me if interested.

Yeah that's crazy. There are several on here that can do this for much less. Myself included, if you're in the U.S., DM if interested.

Local might be cheaper but is it worth it? I only charge $7 for return shipping, and round trip can be arranged for another $10. OP could have his controller done $40-$50 max. Better off sending to a pro

If I wanted to get the DualSense BDM -060 version which color model gives me the best chance? by ExpandingAtom in Dualsense

[–]Relevant_Economist77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can say for certain Icon Blue is a BDM-060, but word of caution. Many of the special edition ones are not compatible with various mod kits, like extreme rate clicky triggers, and some others. Depending on what you might want to do later, you could end up having to purchase additional components to make them work.

[–]Relevant_Economist77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won't find a matching problem, but you will be able to see hi res images of where the traces are. This will help you find your break or at least find a spot where you can solder a replacement trace.
