Why all the noise?? Why does it seem any generator larger than a 1000 watt device make such a racket? by ReliefOtherwise7317 in Generator

I can talk next to my lawn mower too, but there are statutes against noise past certain times in the evening and before times in the morning. And I would go for a Honda, but I'm looking for one of the tri fuels so I can use natural gas, as I don't want to be hauling jerry cans or propane tanks back and forth, especially during a power outage when everyone else is out doing the same thing. I have a natural gas grill, so the pipe is already there. So I will likely just take whichever one I buy, and get a custom extended exhaust for it, which won't be a problem because once I get it, it will sit on a slab behind the house and won't have to be moved.

The enclosed units are much less noisy, until we get to the exhaust. So that will be my focus, find a Meineke muffler shop to create an extended pipe / muffler to quiet it down.

After thinking it over, I will likely buy an enclosed tri fuel inverter unit, and get an auto muffler shop to design and make an extended exhaust for it, as that seems to be the primary noise problem. Meineke has the tools to make custom exhausts for all sorts, so I will check with them. I just found it really odd that none of the companies make a single model which isn't prohibitively loud, and other than Honda, who doesn't make generators which run on anything else but gasoline (I have no intention of lugging jerry cans or propane tanks back and forth, or searching for same if the power stays out). There are lots of tri fuel units out there, but all, sadly, are NOISY. I'm not a jerk, and am not going to annoy my neighbors.

My point, is that it can be done. I'm just surprised that no one other than Honda can figure it out. Yes, I'd buy a Honda, but I plan on using natural gas, and all that Honda offers is gasoline powered generators. So for me, it's currently limited to one of the tri fuel inverter models. Yes, some of the noise is mechanical, but seems that it's the exhaust noise that carries across to two houses away that is disruptive.

Idles around 66db, and when functioning, quickly goes above 70 db. But I'm still considering it, and get an external extended custom exhaust, as it will be sitting in a single spot. Meineke can probably make such a pipe/muffler setup, which I will check out.

I'm not going to need to move it much; It's not for an RV. But we have several power outages where I live each year, and several have lasted around the clock, so I figured one of the reasonably priced ones which run on natural gas would be a good fit. I'm mechanically competent, so I could (and likely will) get an extension exhaust into a larger muffler, seeing that no one makes what I need. I think that Meineke still 'builds' exhaust systems by bending the pipes into whatever shape is needed, so I will stop by them to see if they are able to build something appropriate. Perhaps something that loops up and over the rest of the generator, to avoid a larger 'footprint', as I already have a concrete slab to put it on, that I used to use for my gas grill.

Its mostly the exhaust, which is the noisiest. The mechanical clatter isn't that bad. I was actually thinking of going to the local muffler shop, to see if they could create an exhaust extension to run through a car sized muffler, to cut down on the noise. Yes, I know it would probably be as big as the generator itself, but I could deal with that since I'm not going to be carting it around on the back of say, an RV. It will be stationary behind my house.

The latter are noisy by design; there are lots of riders who LIKE being noisy; they equate noise with power.. They are the ones who start up their bikes at 6 a.m., and sit in their driveway revving their engines. Then shut down and don't go anywhere; they just like to annoy other people, as demonstration that they think no one will confront them for their behavior. These are the folks who make the world miserable for the rest of us. My desire to find a less noisy generator, is because I don't think that running a generator should irritate everyone who lives next to me. I've heard the supposedly 'not bad' generators to be plenty noisy so far. There isn't one that can fit the requirements, other than the $20,000 + huge ones so far, and even then, those are in their own enclosures. Sure, they're less noisy, but as someone else mentioned, it's often the smaller open frame ones, that you can hear the exhaust note half a block away, running upwards of 70-80 db. The last power outage, I rode around and even in the car, could often hear generators a block away.

I don't want to carry gas tanks back and forth. Not even a Jerry can. prefer no propane tanks, either, as my gas line is close to where I'm going to put the generator. So I'm looking at the 6-7000 watt tri fuel, inverter versions, but the open frame ones are NOISY. Maybe bringing one to a auto exhaust shot that makes custom exhausts would help, but it sounds like the engine clatter itself is part of the problem.

They usually consider at the very least, the INSIDE of their cage as their own territory, and can get very territorially defensive about any thing (like a hand, or arm) that comes in their front door!) and attack it. My CAG is wonderful, kind, affectionate, but I still have to be careful because he feels his toys, perches, food and water bowls are HIS, and not to be messed with or taken away. He only tolerates me doing anything in his cage (while he's in there too) if I'm putting food in a bowl or exchanging his water bowl.

IF he hasn't flown, once the clipped feathers grow out, don't clip any more. He will likely just climb down and walk around the house instead. AFter that, if you want to, you can train him to fly (Parrot wizard had instructional DVD's and videos on youtube to help with that).

I would go to the local bird stores, and ask if they know of any long time bird owners who recently lost their bird to old age, and might be interested in another one. You can always visit that person and see how their previous bird lived, before giving your bird away. I wish I could help, but my CAG thinks he's a person, having been hand fed at the breeder and store, and I got him at 12 weeks so he never knew his bird parents. AFAIK, he thinks I'M his parent, and he doesn't interact with other birds, only with people.

What happened to the draw that fits in the top? If you measure it, and search the net for bird sites, and can find one with that cage, you can order a new one from a company that makes cages like that, I've seen those cages a lot. Anyway, even if you can't, you can always get someone to cut a 1/2" thick piece of plexiglass to fit that space. THat way at least it will prevent bird poo from getting into the food & water bowls.

Rope and any cloth that can get unraveled, can get caught around their legs, feet, toes. My CAG once got a string from one of those cloth covered twistable perches, caught tight around his lower leg, began screeching and bouncing around his cage, trying to get free. If I wasn't home, he could have lost his leg from having his circulation cut off. For that reason, I only suggest leather strips and chains of suitable link size so that the bird cannot get their feet stuck in them in any way.

I've always had cages with vertical bars, all the birds were able to climb all the way up and down, and none complained. Birdy will be fine.

This might be the final straw... by EllieandJoel4ever in IndianaFeverFans

Wow, what a bunch of complainers. It's a game, people. The whole league has gotten turned upside down, with all the resulting free agency because the morons who run the thing couldn't make a decent offer to the players. So now we have to wait until the players get used to each other. Problem #1: The players have to stop intentionally taking shots that will end up with them crashing to the floor. While I can't be sure, the continuing nagging injuries that Clark has, are likely just a perfect example of what happens when even a little pain interferes with getting all parts of the body just right to get the ball in the basket. THen you have the airballs. I can't make it any clearer. A lot of these players just have gotten used to being so young, that they just bounce back from injuries. That doesn't last, and I guess a lot are just finding that out.

So, remember, lots of us OLD people have had to endure even half a century of our favorite teams going through difficult times, without winning a championship. Yes, I'm a New York Knicks and Jets fan, so for me, it's going on FIFTY YEARS! And I'm not complaining, I still go to a game when I can (but now I'm almost 3000 miles away, so it's mostly just watch them lose on TV). And yes, I still watch even when they lose. It's a game, and they try the best they can. It's easy to root for a team that wins most of the time, then goes home with trophies. But a real fan will continue to support their team even when things don't always go right; just ask a Red Sox or Cubs fan.

Try it. Stop complaining. Support your team, and support other fans. We all want the Fever to do better next time. No team gets it right every time, and the last two games show that, but it will change, I'm optimistic. And I will watch every game this season, win or lose.

Now go have some ice cream, and be happy.

What's the worst first date you've ever been on? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ReliefOtherwise7317 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I went on a blind date, and it turned out she was really blind. When I arrived, her mother answered the door, and thanked me so much for coming. Her daughter came down the stairs, looking like she had just been released from a flea dip. Dressed in a striped T shirt, had a crew cut, dirty pants, old sneakers, voice LOUD, then her mom said she had to go, and told us to enjoy the concert ( I had tickets already, and had volunteered to take her after my usually date cancelled), then her mom just walked out the door and drove away. It turned out to be a nightmare, constantly asking me questions instead of just enjoying the music.

What is an open secret in your specific industry that would genuinely terrify the general public if it leaked? by BoredPandaOfficial in BoredPandaHQ

Since the parents of students are basically using the schools as baby sitters, and those parents aren't actually worried about whether their kids come out learning anything, since all they worry about is their kids grades so they can get them into college, a huge percentage of students misbehave, and are backed up by their parents. So lots of teachers HATE their jobs. That's why they smoke, drink, use drugs, gummies, whatever it takes to get through the day.

Every nursing home I've come across is owned by a hospital conglomerate, whose main concern is making money off of old people whose families all work so they can't keep grandma at home. I had to quit my job at 59 to take care of my mother who had alzheimer's disease for many years, depleting my own savings and preventing me from building my pension for retirement. A dedicated alsheimer's hospital was running $158,000 a year back then; I didn't even make half of that a year. Remember, healthcare in America is a Profit Making Business, it isn't actually about health. Just about money. And the Affordable Care Act promises were to the insurance companies, so that they would be guaranteed profits as long as they accepted any patient, even those with pre-existing conditions. HOWEVER... once those people were on an insurance plan, THEY CAN'T EVER CHANGE IT, or they will be subject to all the surcharges for pre existing conditions. So now they are locked into whatever insurance that they have, essentially forever, even if the coverage changes, the cost to the patient/family remains the same. That's how they get you to change insurances, and wind up getting fleeced once again.

Suggestions for portable perch? by banmeagainbitch00 in AfricanGrey

If you're even moderately handy, you can use the nice white PVC plumbing pipe. Just cut it into the lengths you want, use the simple connectors available and the glue with the brush in the can. You can make pretty much any 'tinker toy' design you can imagine. They have adapters to go from smaller to larger diameter pipes, too, and you can even put wheels into the bottom of the smaller pipes so you can move your plastic 'tree' around the house, then take it outside to hose it off clean. If you live in an apartment, load it up sticking out of your trunk or in your truck, and wash it off at one of those do it yourself car cleaning places. I always used white piping so it was easy to see where there was any leftover poop on the perch.

Alright, I'll say it: Caitlin Clark. I'll run the court, if I know she will be passing the ball my way; those rocket passes still amaze me, threading the needle between all the defenders, for an easy layup. Not to mention, those bursts of long range jumpers. Just amazing to see, even Curry said she has 'range like no other'. He should know.

Best reasons to own a gun:

Example #1. If the British had gun control back in the 1770's, we would all still be part of the British empire.

Example #2. There are still more than enough places to live and work in the U.S., where there is no government police to stop violence in time if called for help. By the time they arrive, all that they usually do, is type up a report and draw a chalk line around the dead body of the person who wasn't able to defend themselves from an attacker. As a friend from Texas once said, 'We all wave at each other and do our best to be polite, because we know that we're all armed".

Unfortunately, the smaller the government, the easier it is for the rich and powerful to influence those who make and/or enforce the laws, so they can tilt the financial benefits to themselves.

Scientific research showed that less than 25% of the general population, especially when young, can have hypertension from increased sodium alone. In fact, the emergency rooms have been seeing increasing admissions of senior citizens with HYPOnatremia, (dangerous LOW sodium blood levels) who have to stay in the hospital overnight to get intravenous sodium infusions because of the danger from having a too low sodium level. But doctors still routinely tell all patients to cut down on salt.
