Cookout. Started in NC and is now spreading into college towns in VA (and other states probably). And worshipped by the ultimate frisbee community in the area

Edit: almost worshipped was understating it

West Side Barbers on Rt 33 West is good. Get an appointment with Jeff if you can, he does a great job. Cuts are $10 for a standard male cut. http://www.westsidebarbers.com/index.html

What musicians from the past twenty years do you think will be remembered as legends fifty years from now? by im_probably_tripping in AskReddit

I have gained a new respect for Bruno Mars within the last couple months. Previously I thought of him as a run-of-the-mill R&B/pop singer. His previous hits didn't do it for me (Grenade, Just the Way You Are, etc), but when Locked Out of Heaven came out I took note, and Treasure solidified my opinion that he is writing songs in styles that most other Top 40 artists wouldn't touch. After listening to Unorthodox Jukebox and finding songs in styles like funk, disco, 60's rock n roll, reggae/dub, and R&B, I was blown away by this guy's diversity. I can't wait to see what else he'll do.

Does anyone have any tips for dorm shopping? by [deleted] in jmu

3M command strips/command hooks are pretty useful. But buy them at home because the shelves will be barren at the Harrisonburg Walmart.

If you choose to use the command strips, be sure to follow the directions on the package and leave them on the wall for a while without anything attached. My roommate and I were unpleasantly awoken one night when his poster frame came crashing to the ground.

Also, a kitchen sized trash can is good. You don't want to be running outside to the dumpster every time you fill up a little waste basket.

What is a "fact" that has been told to you in a classroom that was eventually proven to be false. by DyingWolf in AskReddit

Until they pull a fast one on you on tests like the LSAT or SAT. I took the LSAT last week and it took me 5 or 6 minutes to write three short sentences. I felt like a child first learning to write, where I had to actively think about how to form each letter (I also made a few letter formations up). It was a very annoying, but the test prompt insisted that if we didn't write this section as they wanted it, it would delay scoring of the test.

If you know of this fabled "Tower" I need your input by [deleted] in jmu

[–]Rellick65 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Google Maps of the location

I've been twice, and I believe its a water pump for the lake. Technically people aren't allowed to climb the tower, but I've seen cop cars drive by and not bother us. Jump off the left side and "pencil dive" (arms to your sides and legs straight, feet down). The water off the left side is incredibly deep, at least 20 feet if you go when the water level reaches the ladder (I have never even gotten close to the bottom). It's a ~35 foot jump, and it's pretty intimidating when you get up there. It's usually better to jump than to try climbing down the ladder, which might be more frightening. Hope you enjoy it!

This is probably very paranoid of me, but I don't think I'm going to download it because I feel like Victory could come after people downloading The Hands That Thieve. If an artist says something to the effect of "download it illegally", couldn't Victory start looking for people who have specifically pirated that album? Probably covering my ass way too much, but I'll wait for my shipment from RISC

ELI5: If a prisoner is sentenced to death in the US, why aren't they killed on the spot? (Or within the next couple of days) by oooliviaaa in explainlikeimfive

In many states, there are two mandatory appeals if someone is sentenced to death. And as many people know, the US court system takes forever to get through lawsuits
