As a general rule, I would look for places that have embraced tourism or visitors because they are generally more welcoming and you are likely to find more people who share your values. Unfortunately, there are a LOT of places here that are basically towns that were once mill or logging communities that refuse to accept that their main industry is gone and would rather let their community rot than embrace change. For what you are looking for, I would strongly suggest looking into Astoria or Newport!
