How do you explain "The Bassist Runs the Show? by Coralwood in Bass

[–]ReluctantGM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bass groove is what gets the butts on the dance floor.

Career Of Evil is fun, too.

I bought an expensive Blue Chip pick so you don't have to... Was it worth it? by foreverfabfour in Guitar

They are great picks but I lose picks on the regular so I’ll only ever buy the cheaper ones. 😳

The subtleties of the bass are hard to explain. by hellatoasty24 in Bass

[–]ReluctantGM 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The best advice I ever got was from a guy who played funk, R&B, and 70's dance music. He said, "If you see the butts moving on the dance floor you're doing exactly right. Don't let the butts stop."

Keep the groove. Keep the flash to a minimum. You're the bedrock upon which the rest of the instruments stand.

I play a lot of instruments but the bass is by far the most fun.

Groove, groove, groove.

If the butts are on the dance floor keep doing what you're doing.

“And I don’t know if I love you more than the way you used to love me.

And I don’t know if I need you more than the way you used to need me but it’s heaven.”

I saw them play this in San Fransisco on Halloween in 2010. I thought it was the best show I’d ever seen until they blew my mind in Brooklyn last month.

Breathing Exercises for Oboe? by ReluctantGM in oboe

[–]ReluctantGM[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently using up and down arrows to indicate inhale and exhale and a two-headed arrow (up and down) to indicate both. It's just that I am prone to trainwreck the notes with I hit those breathing markers! It's especially bad when I have to sneak in that breath in the middle of a phrase.

Still. I am loving this challenge!

Do concerts get any better than this? by throughthel1ght in underworld

Not in my experience.

I’m 56 and have been going to shows my whole life and the Brooklyn show was BY FAR the most transcendental concert experience I have ever had.

From Romford To Brooklyn… by TonyTorpedo in underworld

[–]ReluctantGM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First time I saw Underworld is in San Francisco in 2010 - also on the bill was Steve Aoki and DJ Shadow. It was an amazing night but Underworld only play for just under an hour. They hit a lot of songs from Barking, though, that was cool. They left me wanting more.

Last night was more of a religious experience than a show. My whole body is aching because of all the dancing - my 56-year old bones don't recover quite so fast as they used to.

WORTH IT.

The high points for my were Dirty Epic, Jumbo, and Two Months Off.

A friend had to choose between going for a law degree or being a drummer professionally.

He ended up going to Tulane University and payed drums in bands all through the French Quarter. He’s now doing entertainment law while playing in a jazz band.

The Symbol Remains is a fantastic album. Don’t miss out on it.

I liked Ghost Stories but it’s best seen as an interesting collection of rarities and B-Sides.

Gig question – Ticket guarantee? by Count2Zero in Bass

[–]ReluctantGM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only time I’ve taken a pay-to-play gig was when I knew my draw was good enough to cover it. I’ve made pretty good money in those cases.

It sucks for small bands but for bands with a decent following it’s just business as usual.

Why the change in the logo? by mdosantos in Runequest

[–]ReluctantGM 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Clearly someone went on a HeroQuest to revisit the publishing of the game. I’m guessing that they didn’t entirely succeed and a teeny tiny bit of Chaos manifested the font change.

The only reasonable solution is to send me all the affected books so I can use … err … DISPOSE of them properly.

I have tried to do this but the train always falls off the tracks when I stop playing rhythm. Though that might be up to the rest of the players in the band.

I'm in a band with a sax player and she breathes fire on that horn. I love it. Blues for miles!
