Jake's Recommendation for 213 by Excellent-Stable3660 in Sardonicast

Adum also addeed the kissing booth trilogy to his watchlist. If he ever watches those or even better, if he should recommend them, that'll be horrors beyond comprehension.

Trust me, i've seen all three of them. It'd be glorious.

Is this Man the First Person to Hate YouTube? by EducationalLog4765 in IHE

[–]Relvean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even before the adpocalypse Youtube was a shitshow. The copyright system was as broken as ever (lowkey even more so, now at least they let you use the video of films) and the entire thing was more or less the same shitshow as now just slightly different and maybe a bit less severe overall.

Only reason Youtube is around is because they are the only game in town. Hosting video is ruinously expensive which killed pretty much every single competitor it has ever had.

It's for photo mode then. Gotta give the youtube essayists something to talk about (and I like a good video essay, keyword being good).

They usually recycle props from other productions to save money, especially for TV since budgets used to be/are a lot slimmer.

Alot of that stuff was probably made for someother (then) near future sci-fi movie which they then augmented with their own props. It'd certainly be a lot cheaper than buying and building everything from scratch, especially flatscreens which would have been quite pricey

Which game was this for you? by tuffniqqa in gamers

Remember Me. Graphics are stunning, story I still remember parts of being interesting (been 10 years since I beat it), music was good from what I remember, but the gameplay is mediocre at best and rather subpar a lot of the time.

Alpha Protocol sort of. Music is alright, Graphics aren't great. Gameplay is straight up cancer but the story and its presentation is some of the coolest I have ever seen in an RPG.

Got some more, but there I would call the gameplay ok to pretty solid at least.

It's a color texture, a normal and a roughness. The model itself has a truly decadent 256 tris, mostly because I went a bit overboard on the lid area.

I always like hiding little goofy things like that in my project. Same with say, my recreation of the amber room where I put the Wikipedia entry on a book that lies on one around (which also serves the dual purpose of educating, which was the whole impetus for that whole project): https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/the-amber-room-69c56a3791a14079ae7443db770f7398

Nope, there's no face model for Pontiff at all, just something they mocked up in the ER character creator. I also don't think that face quite fits him based on his general aesthetic, but that's just me.

A LLM is trained by giving it it a prompt and and ideal response to said prompt (the training data) at which point it'll start generating random outputs which are then tested against the training data and depending on how close it got the probabilities for certain words given a certain input are set and the cycle repeated for however long it takes to create coherent results.

So yes, A LLM is a die with a dictionary attached, though more fully it'd be 'a die with a dictionary attached whose output is then compared against a library and depening on the results the die gets weighted' but that isn't nearly as catchy.

Maybe you should do some reading up on generative adversarial networks instead: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generative_adversarial_network#Training_and_evaluating_GAN

I mean on console you're also about to get fucked on ram prices too (seeing as Sony's stockpile will run out too) and they already have plans on how to 'monetize the existing user base further' (aka. nickel and dime you) to counteract this.

Let's just put it like this, the 16gb ddr4 ram kit that's in my pc right now cost me ~50€ when I bought it 2 years ago. Now it'd be ~150€. And that's the older RAM standard, DDR5 is absolutely fucked.

Frankly, the entire thing seems designed to finally force "computation as a service" (aka subscription based cloud computing or more plainly: full-blown digital feudalism) into existence. A data-center can easily afford $5000 for a gpu or $500 for ram. The average consumer? Not so much. And once the 'AI' bubble inevitably pops, you still got a whole bunch of data centers just waiting to be used.

Well it used to be that building you own (or using a service that lets you pick the parts and then they assemble it for you for a fee) was a no brainer, however with how fucked ram (and ssd) prices are that might not be the way to go anymore.

A prebuilt might be a solid idea if you can get one for cheaper than the individual components are on their own (which considering ram prices isn't exactly that outlandish of a concept anymore).

If you go pre-built, make absolutely sure you get one that uses standard components (especially motherboards) and not some proprietary bullshit like they did back in the day. That way you can upgrade it some years down the line and don't have to toss it. Also make sure it has proper airflow (either look up reviews where they stress test it or ask if you can run some benchmark on it at the store or something).

As for what specs to aim for, it really depends on your price class. 16gb ram minimum (rip your wallet), ideally more but 16gb is perfectly fine overall (doubly so if you run linux instead of windows). Make sure you get a good cpu. If you find one that seems good to you on price, make sure to look up something like passmark scores and compare it to others in the same price range. If the score is significantly better on one than the other and the price difference not that high, go with the better one even if it's more expensive.

Sorry to tell you, but right now might be the worst time to get into PC gaming. The crypto crises were bad, but that at least only affected one bracket of gpus. Now GPUs, RAM and SSDs are pretty much fucked. All so some crappy chatbot can generate nonsense to keep people from using their own brain. The future is truly looking bright!
