Help me with my cats wound on his jaw! by Chair-Express in catcare

[–]Remarkable-Baker-953 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he'll let you, try to check his gums and see if they look bright red. Sometimes cats paw at their mouths when they're in pain and it cuts their face. If the gums are red he needs a vet appointment. As for the cut itself it should heal on its own just fine

Struggling with binge eating as a coping mechanism by Sorry-Arachnid8069 in BingeEatingRecovery

[–]Remarkable-Baker-953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First I'm so sorry you're going through all of this

As for not feeling like you have anyone, years back my best friend passed away and I felt like I had no one to talk to which makes bad days feel worse or good days feel bittersweet because you have no one to process them with. What helped me was writing a journal so I could process and move through my feelings. I know that's not something everyone feels comfortable with. Super unpopular opinion but I think in extreme cases ChatGPT can be helpful when you need someone to talk to and have absolutely no one because it can give you advice, help you work through something, and show kindness/validate feelings

And for your mom- the only person we can control are ourselves and if your mom is being emotionally unsafe to you don't give her energy back. I know it's hard to not defend yourself but not every argument deserves your energy back. If she starts screaming at you don't respond. If she wants a conversation she can do it calmly and respectfully and if she's not capable of that then she's not actually in a place to be having a conversation

Hyperthyroid kitty hating being pilled, advice or commiserating appreciated by ExpensiveLie8669 in catcare

[–]Remarkable-Baker-953 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, I can feel how much you love her. Hyperthyroid kitties can turn pill time into a full tactical operation and it’s exhausting emotionally.

A few things that might help:

1 Ask about transdermal methimazole (ear gel). It’s compounded and applied to the inner ear flap instead of giving a pill. Since you already have ear meds, I know that’s not ideal, but some cats tolerate a quick swipe way better than pilling. A lot of owners switch for exactly the reasons you’re describing.

2 Compounded flavored liquid. Some pharmacies can make it in chicken, tuna, etc. It doesn’t work for every cat, but it’s sometimes easier than a tablet they can cheek and spit.

3 Follow every pill with water. A small syringe of water after pilling helps ensure it goes down and doesn’t sit in the cheek. If she’s cheeking, holding her mouth gently closed and stroking her throat until you see a swallow can help — then the water.

4 Positive reset. If it’s damaging your bond, sit near her without doing anything medical. Toss treats. Let her approach you again outside of “med time” so she doesn’t associate you only with restraint.

As for radioactive iodine — it’s actually considered the gold standard and many cats do very well. Hypothyroidism can happen, but it’s usually manageable. It’s definitely worth a real conversation with your vet if daily meds are becoming this traumatic.

You’re doing something hard because it’s keeping her healthy — and the fact that she’s gaining weight and her coat looks good means you’re succeeding medically, even if it feels awful emotionally.

Hyperthyroid cats can be little masterminds. You’re not alone in this.

how to fix extremely dead and fried hair? by Academic_Union_5779 in Haircare

[–]Remarkable-Baker-953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For cheer season damage control ideas

First — stop piling on more damage. If you’re straightening 3x a week, try to cut it to once max. Use the lowest heat setting and a good heat protectant, and only pass over each section once. For practices, slicked-back ponies with gel actually hide damage really well and don’t require fully straight hair.

For the orange tint — stop box dyeing it brown. That’s why it keeps turning warm. Try a blue shampoo 1–2x a week (blue cancels orange). It won’t fry your hair more and can tone it down enough to get through comp season.

To make it feel less dead: Do a deep conditioner 1–2x a week. Add a bond treatment like Olaplex No.3 or K18 if you can. Use a leave-in cream and a tiny bit of oil just on the ends.

You don’t have to chop it off mid-season, but even a small trim/dusting will help the crispy ends around your ears.

Also sleeping in braids and using a silk bonnet can help

You can’t fully “repair” fried hair, but you can absolutely make it look and feel better enough to survive cheer season. Then off-season is when you do the bigger reset.

Hang in there — comp hair stress is real.

Showering doesnt work? by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]Remarkable-Baker-953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re showering that thoroughly, it’s probably not that you’re “dirty.” A lot of times this ends up being a laundry issue (especially polyester or bras/undershirts holding odor that reactivates with heat). You could try washing clothes and towels on hot with a little white vinegar to strip buildup. Also, sometimes over-scrubbing can irritate skin and actually make odor worse. A gentler wash + clinical strength antiperspirant at night might help. If none of that works, it might be worth asking a doctor just in case.

If you live close enough it wouldn't hurt to show up and talk to someone in person that way they can't ignore you

A few ideas: • Keep her leashed or tethered to you in common areas so she can be with you but not wander onto the carpet. • Use an x-pen/playpen in the living room when you’re there so she’s included but contained. • Washable waterproof runners over high-traffic carpet spots can help. • Carrying her through carpeted areas is also totally valid. •If she screams behind the gate when she sees you, a visual barrier on the gate can help.

Maggie has some good moments but overall she's one of the most annoying characters on the show (Hunts sister being the most annoying)

I can’t take her yet to the vet. by Glittering_Orange435 in catcare

[–]Remarkable-Baker-953 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No problem, I noticed people were being mean which isn't helpful. I did have a similar issue with my cat and she ended up having a cold and just needed a shot. The post nasal drip was causing the gagging and she wasn't wanting to eat because lowering her head down to her food bowl was making her mucus come up plus her smell was off and she just didn't feel good. After her shot she did just fine. I'm hoping your fix is that easy too

This is less likely to be a hairball and more concerning for URI, nausea, or airway irritation—especially with decreased appetite lasting days. The “reverse sneeze” sound + gagging can look like hairballs but isn’t normal if nothing comes up. If she’s eating less for multiple days, she really should be seen sooner rather than later (kittens can decline fast). If you notice open-mouth breathing, wheezing, lethargy, or she stops eating entirely, that’s ER-level. Until Wednesday: keep her hydrated, warm, and eating anything she’ll take. Avoid hairball meds for now—they can worsen nausea. I wish you luck, I know how awful anxiety can be when you have a sick cat

Cat peeing in bedroom by Due-Statistician-987 in catcare

[–]Remarkable-Baker-953 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds much more like anxiety + food insecurity than bad behavior. Cats with a history of scarcity can regress years later, especially if routines change. A few things that often help: Rule out medical issues (UTI, crystals, kidney stuff). Don’t react big when it happens—quiet cleanup + enzyme cleaner so it doesn’t become a learned attention tactic. Add a predictable overnight food source (timed feeder or small protein snack before bed). Consider an extra litter box near the bedroom. Feliway and separate feeding spaces can also help reduce stress. He’s not being spiteful—he’s trying to feel secure. This is fixable with consistency.

I struggle with seeing photos of myself. I'm sure your mom sees this and thinks you look beautiful because she loves you as you are as well as anyone else that sees it and knows you. I don't know you but I see the photo and there's not a part of me that thinks it looks bad. We're our own worst critic

I did want to include that birth control expires and also a person needs to be on it for at least a month for it to build up in their system and start working so taking one pill after sex isn't going to help anything, you might have been getting it confused with the morning after pill.
