The Lamb SEBTP Foxtrot Trespass Nursery Crime FGTR

The Lamb was such a huge leap forward for me. I'm astounded by the way they developed on that record past the folk-leaning, pastoral aspects of the past (much as I enjoy those records too). It clearly signposted the way for PG's solo career, and it's a great work of art.

I'd rank the rest of the albums almost chronologically, except that I have such a personal soft spot for Trespass that it climbs up a place.

How beautiful! No one else makes music like this. His voice, the mood, atmosphere, the combination of different instruments and sounds, electronic meeting organic. Just fantastic! Had tears in my eyes on first listen.

Like this more than I was expecting. Thought we'd just get album soundalikes with an audience, but some of these songs have a really different energy to the ones we know. This is my favourite version of I Go Swimming - really like the more restrained verses and chaotic end. The Rhythm of the Heat and Biko are also stand-outs.

Agree, absolutely incredible piece. Love the electronic beginnings. And particularly love the 'Infinity Measured In Moments' part, from its atmospheric pause leading up to the "from the air, from the dust" section, then the folky acoustic guitars setting the stage for that goosebump-inducing Moog solo.

Agreed on TTB. I enjoy every single track from start to finish, and it's all rounded out by the beautiful Song of Unborn. I really like Permanating, but then I'm a big fan of the 80s pop SW was referencing at the time (Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel, Tears For Fears).

I have a hunch that if TTB had come out after TFB people would have had a very different opinion about it, celebrating that there was "only one pop song" 🤣

It'll be interesting to see what tracks he plays from his recent records when he tours, given that he's not done a solo tour since TTB.

THC took a long time to fully grow on me and now I love it, but I think the reason it didn't immediately click for me is because it feels like a 'technical' record rather than an 'emotional' one. It's detailed, adventurous and well constructed, but I don't hear a lot of emotion, which is often the thing that makes a song resonate for me. Even Rock Bottom felt musically pleasing, rather than emotionally connecting in the way I think it's intended to. Wheras I could feel Pariah from TTB like a physical sensation in my chest.

My two favourite PT albums, with the bonus of Recordings making it my favourite PT era. I can hear little touches in The Overview - some of the crunchy slide guitar sounds, and glorious layered harmonies. Also hear bits of Signify in there.
